Majority Moto Plus test – retro charm meets modernity

The vinyl record is making a comeback and more and more music lovers are discovering the warm, analog and more conscious enjoyment of music for themselves. But in the digital age, a good record player should do more than just sound good. The Majority Moto Plus promises just that: an appealing nostalgic design combined with features such as Bluetooth and USB recording. In this Majority Moto Plus test, I examine whether this record player manages the balancing act between nostalgia and modernity and for whom it is suitable.

Scope of delivery

  • Two separate speakers for better sound
  • Including all necessary cables and adapters
  • Felt pad for turntable
  • Comprehensive package to get you started

The Majority Moto Plus offers a decisive advantage over the standard version of the Moto: two separate speakers. These not only promise better sound quality, but also guarantee better stereo resolution.

In addition to the record player and the speakers, the package naturally includes a mains cable for connection to the power supply. Comprehensive operating instructions are included with the device in case of any problems.

It is pleasing to note that Majority has also thought of the necessary connection cables. The scope of delivery includes two RCA cables that establish the connection between the turntable and speakers. Playback of records at 45 rpm has also been taken into consideration. A corresponding adapter is also included in the scope of delivery. There is also a felt pad for the turntable. I only missed a record brush in the scope of delivery.

To summarize, the scope of delivery of the Majority Moto Plus leaves hardly anything to be desired. In addition to the basic components, it offers useful additions that facilitate and individualize the enjoyment of music.

Design & workmanship

  • Classic, elegant design in wood look
  • Compact dimensions, weight: 5.6 kg
  • Felt mat can attract dust
  • Small turntable
  • Solid workmanship

The Majority Moto Plus has a classic design with a wooden-look housing. The black color scheme combined with the dark wood gives it a timeless and elegant look that can be easily integrated into various furnishing styles. With its dimensions of 34.6 cm in width, 12 cm in depth and 38 cm in height, the record player is neither too compact nor too bulky. Conveniently, Majority also includes the aforementioned felt mat and the 45 RPM adapter with the Moto Plus, so you can start listening straight away.

However, I see the felt mat as a small disadvantage compared to a silicone mat. Felt mats tend to generate static electricity, which in turn attracts dust particles that have a negative effect on the sound quality and can lead to unwanted crackling and popping. A rubber mat would have been the better choice here, as it generates less static and is easier to keep clean.

However, the size of the turntable itself is somewhat more disappointing. It is significantly smaller than a 12-inch record, which means that the record is not fully supported and is more susceptible to deformation and vibration. It also leads to more up and down movement of the cartridge, as no record is perfectly flat. A full size platter provides significantly more stability and support to minimize these problems and ensure better fidelity. The smaller size of the platter causes the record to protrude over the edge, making it more susceptible to damage and external influences.

With the Majority Moto, protruding records are hardly a problem thanks to the transparent, tiltable cover. Only behind the turntable does a 12-inch record protrude a few centimeters unprotected.

.

At 5.6 kg, the record player weighs a fair amount, which gives it good stability and makes a high-quality impression. Unfortunately, Majority does not provide any precise details about the materials used in the housing. A little more transparency would be desirable here. I assume that the wood is MDF board with a patterned top layer. At first glance, the workmanship makes a decent impression.

Overall, the Majority Moto Plus leaves a positive visual impression in the test. The classic design with the wood look looks timeless and elegant. Although the exact materials are not known, the record player makes a solid impression due to its weight and workmanship.

Functions & connections

  • Speeds of 33, 45 and 78 rpm
  • Bluetooth 5.3 (In & Out), headphone connection, AUX input
  • Auto-stop function, USB recording

The Majority Moto Plus is not just a record player, but a real all-rounder. It plays records at the standard speeds of 33, 45 and 78 revolutions per minute and also offers a number of practical functions. Another point that stood out in the Majority Moto Plus test is the versatile connectivity. If you want more flexibility or better sound, you can also connect external speakers or headphones via Bluetooth 5.3. Of course, there is also a classic wired headphone connection for undisturbed music enjoyment.

The USB recording function is also practical. This allows records to be digitized directly onto a USB stick. External audio sources such as smartphones can also be connected via the AUX input or the Bluetooth-in function. The auto-stop function ensures that the record player stops automatically at the end of the record, thus protecting the needle.

Majority uses an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge in the Moto Plus, which is known for its good sound quality. To minimize vibrations and thus improve the sound quality, the platter and feet of the Moto Plus are damped. All in all, the Majority Moto Plus offers a good selection of functions and connections that make it not only a turntable but also an audio multi-talent for various applications.

Sound quality

  • Powerful, dynamic sound thanks to 60-watt speakers
  • Good bass, treble could be more present
  • Precise tracking thanks to AT3600L pickup
  • Overall pleasant sound quality for the price

With the Majority Moto Plus, the music plays – in the truest sense of the word! The included 60-watt speakers deliver a surprisingly powerful and dynamic sound that goes far beyond what you would expect from a turntable in this price range. The bass range in particular is amazingly rich thanks to the separate speakers. Only the treble could have been a little more present for my taste.

The Moto Plus is equipped with an Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge, which is known for its precise tracking and good sound quality. This sets the Majority Moto Plus apart from other turntables in the entry-level class in the test.

A special feature that sets it apart from other turntables in this price range is the spring-loaded platter. This design helps to absorb vibrations and shocks that could otherwise affect the cartridge’s sensitive pick-up system. The result should be improved sound quality with less distortion and clearer sound. Especially with slightly older or slightly wavy records, the suspension ensures smoother running and minimizes skipping and dropouts.

Of course, you shouldn’t expect miracles from a record player in this price range. At very low volumes, you can occasionally hear the sound radiating directly from the pickup if you are close to the turntable. I have also noticed individual skips from the pickup a few times, but in this case it is unclear whether this is due to the record in question or the turntable.

Overall, the Majority Moto Plus delivers a pleasant sound quality in combination with the supplied speakers, which is absolutely sufficient for everyday music enjoyment. Anyone who wants to enjoy their record collection without spending a fortune will certainly be satisfied with the Moto Plus.

Conclusion

The Majority Moto Plus is available for around 170 euros at the time of writing this review and offers a convincing overall package that is both visually and sonically pleasing. Beginners and occasional listeners in particular who are looking for a complete, ready-to-use system will find what they are looking for here. You get a record player, an integrated amplifier and separate speakers all in one, without having to worry about complicated cabling or additional components. The appealing retro design with the wooden housing and separate speakers makes the Moto Plus a stylish piece of furniture. The speakers deliver a remarkably powerful sound for this price range.

Of course, there are also a few minor points of criticism. The felt mat, the somewhat small turntable and the occasional occurrence of needle skipping slightly tarnish the overall impression. However, these weaknesses are forgivable in view of the low price. The built-in Audio-Technica AT3600L cartridge, which is a rarity in this price range and ensures detailed playback, deserves special mention. The Bluetooth functions further increase flexibility.

In conclusion, it can be said that this Majority Moto Plus test paints a consistently positive picture. In direct comparison to similarly priced alternatives such as the Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT or the Crosley Cruiser, the Moto Plus stands out thanks to its complete system with separate speakers. Although the AT-LP60XBT offers a full-size turntable, it does not come with speakers. The Crosley Cruiser has integrated speakers, but cannot match the sound quality of the Majority Moto Plus.

If you are looking for an affordable, good-sounding and visually appealing complete package of turntable and speakers with many modern features and can overlook the minor weaknesses mentioned, you should definitely take a look at the Majority Moto Plus.
