Mokwheel Basalt test: Scope of delivery and assembly
- largely pre-assembled
- quick and easy to set up
- Tools and air pump included
As is the case with most high-quality e-bikes, the Mokwheel Basalt arrives safely packed and mostly pre-assembled at your home. The fragile parts are wrapped in thick foam so that nothing can break during transportation.
Only the front wheel, mudguards and a few small parts still need to be assembled. In addition to instructions, the manufacturer includes a whole range of tools for this purpose. From wrenches to Allen keys.
This makes assembly child’s play and can be completed in just a few simple steps. However, make sure to tighten all screws and check the air pressure of the tires before your first ride so that you are safe on the road right from the start. Conveniently, a pump is also included in the scope of delivery.
Mokwheel Basalt: Robust, high-quality and absolutely suitable for off-road use
- robust and high-quality design
- appealing look
- impeccable workmanship
No question: the Mokwheel Basalt is truly no lightweight. The electric bike weighs in at 36.65 kg, which speaks for its high-quality workmanship. In fact, the e-bike is largely made of robust aluminum – this applies to the frame as well as the rims and the stand.
With an overall length of 189.5 cm, the Basalt is also quite long and has a practical wooden rear seat that can accommodate not only people but also heavy objects such as suitcases, shopping baskets and much more.
The seat and handlebars can of course be adjusted in height, making the All-Terain e-bike suitable for people between 165 cm and 200 cm tall. The permissible total weight is 180 kg, meaning that heavier people can also ride the Mokwheel Basalt.
With its thick main tube and the angular frame that is lowered towards the rear, the Basalt looks great and shows its mountain bike influences in its design. The sporty, aggressive appearance is supported by the thick 26 x 4.0-inch tires with a grippy profile.
The design of the Basalt, which is available in either grey or blue, is rounded off by pleasantly grippy leather covers on the handlebars, controls on the left and the gearshift on the right. The bright and colorful LED display, which provides additional information on speed, distance or battery status, is located centrally on the handlebars.
The features of the Mokwheel Basalt
- powerful motor
- Torque sensor with 65 Nm
- impressive safety features
However, for such a heavy e-bike to get going in the first place, it needs a powerful motor. Fortunately, the Mokwheel Basalt has a 250-watt motor that can even deliver 500 watts at its peak, enabling the e-bike to move swiftly through rough terrain or up hills even with a maximum load.
The motor offers a torque of 65 Nm, which ensures impressive acceleration. The torque sensor ensures a smooth and constant riding experience with assistance in five levels, which is proportional to the current effort when riding.
Mokhweel has also equipped the e-bike with a 940 Wh battery, which is integrated into the frame and secured by a lock. This can either be supplied with energy directly in the bike or removed for charging. According to the manufacturer, this provides a range of up to 85 km, which of course depends heavily on the load and support. A 7-speed gear system from Shimano is also on board.
Bright front and rear lights provide the necessary safety, while the hydraulic TEKTRO HD-M275 disc brakes bring the electric bike to a halt quickly
.
The Basalt is primarily designed for rough terrain, a flexible and adjustable suspension fork skillfully compensates for bumps, while the thick and puncture-proof 26 x 4.0-inch fat tires should ensure a high level of comfort.
High riding comfort on any terrain
- high riding comfort, even on rough terrain
- quite agile handling, but very high stability
And the Mokwheel Basalt really does impress in terms of riding characteristics. Whether on asphalt roads, cross-country over field and forest paths or on cobblestones, the comfort level is extremely high.
Despite the comparatively thick tires and the high weight, the e-bike remains quite agile to steer, but of course cannot quite keep up with a lighter e-MTB. On the other hand, the stability is almost unrivaled. Potholes, stones and other obstacles are handled with ease by the Basalt – we hardly notice any of them while riding.
Without pedal assistance, the Basalt naturally requires some manual effort to get up to speed due to its heavy weight. With a little delay, however, the motor kicks in to provide assistance and delivers a decent amount of power.
The built-in throttle and horn are of course not StVZO-compliant, so if you want to use the Basalt in road traffic, you should deactivate them and use the normal bell, which is also pre-installed. But in terms of pure riding characteristics, the Mokwheel Basalt is really fun.

Mokwheel Basalt test: Conclusion
Large, heavy and fully suitable for off-road riding: the Mokwheel Basalt is a convincing e-bike with fat tires that feels just as comfortable on rough terrain as it does on paved roads.
With a weight of around 36.65 kg, the bike is naturally not suitable for petite riders, as it takes quite a bit of strength to get the bike moving without assistance.
But then the powerful motor does a great job of getting the all-terrain e-bike up to speed and accelerating it to 25 km/h. The power transmission is pleasantly smooth thanks to the torque sensor, while the maximum fifth support level provides plenty of power to master even steep climbs.
The large battery is also pleasing and easily achieves the specified range of 85 kilometers. Even more, depending on the level of support. In combination with the elegant design and high-quality workmanship, this results in a coherent overall package at an absolutely fair price.
