Redroad V17 review: A good Dyson clone for a small price?

Do you still use a vacuum cleaner that has to be connected to the wall socket via a power cord? Then you’re probably part of an ever-shrinking minority. After all, cordless vacuum cleaners are becoming more and more popular. This is not only due to the practical cordless design. On top of that, the battery-powered household helpers are becoming more and more affordable. Manufacturers from the Far East in particular regularly impress with devices that stand out above all for their great value for money. A prime example is definitely the new Redroad V17. It resembles the high-priced competition from Dyson not only in name, but also in looks and functionality. In the Redroad V17 test, we want to take a look at how much performance there is for a price of not even 200 euros.

Scope of delivery

  • Double roller
  • Tube extension with flexible rod

  • Wall mount
  • Power supply

Redroad V17 review: design and workmanship

  • Combination of white, gray and red
  • High-quality workmanship
  • Design reminiscent of Dyson

The color combination of matte white and gray defines the design of the Redroad V17. This is loosened up by a few colored accents in red. Thereby, the red highlights do not only serve as eye-catchers. On top of that, these spots are for the most part operable units like buttons.

This is how Redroad manages to combine chic design with practicality. After all, you don’t have to search long to find the most important places. Although the Redroad V17 relies on plastic for the most part, this does not detract from the look. The suction tube, in turn, is made of high-quality metal, which harmonizes very well with the suction unit.

The overall picture does not have to hide behind far more expensive models from the industry leader Dyson at all. Thus, you can hang the cordless vacuum cleaner on a wall in the apartment without any problems. Fortunately, Redroad includes the matching holder directly. Here, there is not only space for the cordless vacuum cleaner.

In addition, attachments can also be placed directly here. However, you can only place four of the five attachments. So, you have to store the fifth one somewhere else – an incomprehensible decision, but one that shouldn’t weigh too negatively.

Redroad V17 test: high ease of use for cleaning and maintenance

  • Diverse attachments
  • Movable joint makes it easy to maneuver
  • Weight of up to over three kilos may be too heavy for some

The battery vacuum is quickly assembled and ready for a maiden voyage. In doing so, I first wanted to check how the Redroad V17 can be maneuvered through the apartment. In practice, it scores with a great center of gravity when the suction tube is mounted. This makes it easy to move it from A to B. Curves can be pulled with an extremely small turning circle thanks to the exceedingly flexible joint on the main brush.

The joint ensures that the cordless vacuum cleaner is highly maneuverable

Since the suction tube can also be aligned almost parallel to the floor, you can also comfortably get under furniture with the cordless vacuum cleaner. If you don’t want to bend your knees, you can use the bendable suction tube. The cordless vacuum cleaner also scores points for user convenience when it comes to changing the attachments. They can be inserted and removed very easily. This is thanks to the practical click mechanism that is used here.

Even under flat furniture, the Redroad V17 fits very well.

However, those who want to vacuum a large apartment or a whole house might get a heavy arm over time. This is due to the fact that the cordless vacuum cleaner in its normal composition of suction unit and suction tube along with roller brush weighs 3.2 kg. However, normally long cleaning trips are easily possible even for people with thin upper arms.

After you have cleaned the apartment a few times from dust and other dirt, you inevitably have to clean the Redroad V17. And here, too, the device scores with foolproof operation. To empty the dust bin, which has a volume of a good 600 ml, you simply hold it over the trash can and open the flap on the bottom.

Redroad V17 test: display provides overview

  • Small display provides information about battery and cleaning mode
  • Trigger can be held down or pressed once to suck

So that you always have everything in view during cleaning, the Redroad V17 has a handy little display on the back of the suction unit. In addition to the remaining battery status, you can also track the current suction mode here. There are a total of three different ones. Besides an Eco mode, there is a Medium and Turbo mode. You can switch between these three with the help of a small button. Of course, this cannot keep up with the colorful and clear display of a Tineco Pure One S15 Pro (test). However, the device from the competition also costs more than twice as much.

redroad v17 test
The display is rather spartan, but it’s better than nothing

As the owner of a now somewhat aged Dyson V10, I am regularly annoyed by the fact that you always have to hold down the trigger when vacuuming. The Redroad V17 takes a different approach here and gives its users the choice. In addition to the classic method of holding the button down, the vacuum can also be switched on permanently by pressing the button once. When you are done vacuuming, you simply press again and the battery-powered vacuum stops again. What one prefers is certainly a matter of taste. During the test, I found the operation to be catchy and convenient. More ease of use is actually hard to find.

Redroad V17 test: cleaning performance

  • Double roller
  • High suction power (26,500 Pascal)
  • Three different suction levels (Eco, Medium, Turbo)

The technical data of the Redroad V17 reads promising. Thus, it should be able to bring a considerable suction power of 26,500 Pascal on the floor with a power of 450 watts. This makes it significantly more powerful than the Dreame P10 Pro (test), which is about the same price. What sounds good on the spec sheet, the battery-powered vacuum can also put into practice. Thus, on my parquet and tile floor, the Eco level was often already completely sufficient to collect dust and other dirt.

The double roller is composed of a special roller for hard floors and one for carpets.

For pet hair, I again put in the second stage because otherwise some stuff got left behind. For carpet, you need even more power. In particular, my challenging long pile carpet required the turbo mode. This proved to be powerful enough to clean the carpet completely. However, it should be kept in mind that as the suction level increases, the battery life of the cordless vacuum shrinks. So, especially people who have a lot of carpets in their home better look around for a model that is a bit more energy efficient.

On carpeted floors, opt for the highest level

But all in all, I am positively surprised by the overall cleaning performance of the Redroad V17. This does not only apply to the use with the main brush. The attachments were also able to convince me in practice. By the way, Redroad V17 is particularly proud of its main brush, which is composed of two different rollers. One is supposed to be especially suitable for hard floors, the other for carpets. But are the advantages over brushes with individual rollers that great? I don’t think so.

Thanks to numerous attachments, the Redroad V17 can be used for many cleaning jobs.

Thus, the Redroad V17 cleaned my apartment just as reliably as my Dyson V10. The latter only has one roller. At some moments, I even had the feeling that the double roller acted like a tightened handbrake. After all, the two rollers sometimes prevent the suction chute from creating an even stronger vacuum between itself and the floor. This does not translate into weak cleaning results, but I think that given the strong performance, more could have been done with just one roller.

Sustainability thanks to replaceable battery

  • Battery is replaceable
  • Various charging options

In cordless vacuums, the trend is increasingly towards the replaceable battery. Fortunately, this is also the case with the Redroad V17. The 2,500 mAh battery lasted almost 40 minutes on the lowest suction level in the test. Of course, the battery life is also significantly lower at higher suction levels.

The click mechanisms work very well.

For example, the Redroad V17 sucked on the maximum setting for just under ten minutes before it ran out of juice. The big advantage of the design with a replaceable battery is not only that you can enjoy the cordless vacuum cleaner for many years without having to worry about a permanently installed battery getting weaker and weaker.

The dirt container opens conveniently at the touch of a button and can be emptied

If this should become weak on the chest, one buys a new battery without further ado and does not have to throw away the entire vacuum. On top of that, people with a large apartment or house can use a spare battery. As soon as a battery charge is empty, you can simply insert the second battery and it can continue.

Redroad V17 test
The replaceable battery is pleasingly sustainable.

Once the battery is dead, you can recharge it in a variety of ways. Most will probably hang the cordless vacuum in the holder, where it is charged by means of a cable connection. Alternatively, you can also charge the battery itself via cable. Last but not least, the cordless vacuum cleaner can also be charged via cable without the station. In the test, it took just under three hours until the battery of the Redroad V17 was fully charged again.

Redroad V17 test: conclusion

With a price of 190.00 euros, the Redroad V17 is about half as expensive as the high-priced competition from Dyson. But is it also only half as good? Not at all. In addition to a chic look and high-quality workmanship, it offers a high level of operating convenience. For example, it scores with very good maneuverability, which makes it easy to maneuver through apartments filled with obstacles. The attachments are also useful and are very easy to plug in and out. I find the double roller design less useful, but that is probably a matter of taste. The good battery life as well as the interchangeable design of the same round out the package and make the Redroad V17 a really good cordless vacuum.
