3D scanning has long since made the leap from the specialist industrial sector to the everyday lives of passionate 3D printing fans and designers. Whether for 3D printing, game assets, VR/AR or reverse engineering – the demand for mobile, fast and precise scanners is growing. In the Revopoint INSPIRE 2 test, we took a look at a handy 3D scanner that aims to meet precisely these needs.

Scope of delivery
Revopoint INSPIRE 2 test: design and workmanship
The INSPIRE 2 immediately catches the eye with its compact format. Weighing 190 grams, the scanner looks less like a technical measuring tool and more like a slim, modern gadget. The matte surface ensures a pleasant grip, and the reduced operating concept on the back – one button, USB-C, status LEDs – does not appear overloaded. The camera unit is located on the front.
The accessory package, which is already included in the scope of delivery, is particularly noteworthy. A precise turntable in mini format supports the scanning of smaller objects and the tripod makes it easier to position the scanner. The high-quality calibration plate ensures long-term accuracy for scanning projects. A power bank handle can be added as an option, making the scanner completely cordless when on the move thanks to the rechargeable battery.
We were provided with this mobile kit for our test. The overall impression is clear: this is not an attempt to design a “cheap scanner”, but a professional tool for mobile application scenarios – without unnecessary ballast. Revopoint relies on a robust, functional design that is suitable for both quick use on the move and for precise studio workflows.
Revopoint INSPIRE 2 Test: Setup
Setup is surprisingly straightforward – even for me as a layman. Connect the scanner or connect via Wi-Fi 6, open the software – and the scanner is ready within a few seconds. For optimum results, Revopoint recommends preheating the device for around 15 minutes before starting calibration and scanning. This step contributes noticeably to the stability of the results, especially during longer sessions.
The Revo Metro software is intuitively designed and offers two workflows:
- One-click scan for quick results
- Manual workflow for advanced fine adjustments (tracking, exposure, dot density)
This makes the scanner suitable for both beginners and true professionals. As the software (as of early November 2025) was unfortunately not yet available for macOS, I decided to use the Revopoint INSPIRE 2 with the practical Revo Scan app. Together with the Mobile Kit, this enables mobile use of the handy scanner. The app is available for both iOS and Android devices.
It impresses with a good overview right from the setup stage. To establish a connection between the app and scanner, you simply need to set up a WiFi connection. As soon as this is done, you can get started. You can then see the images from the scan cameras on your smartphone screen and start a single or continuous scan at the touch of a button. After a successful scan, you can then easily edit the scan results and send them to your computer.
Revopoint INSPIRE 2 test: Practical test
In use, the INSPIRE 2 shows that it delivers what it promises. I scanned various objects for the test. These included a classic coffee cup and a compact plastic tree with quite a lot of detail. Before I got started, I made the appropriate settings for each scan in advance. You can set the accuracy here.

You can choose between high accuracy or high speed. You should definitely opt for high accuracy for detailed objects. This is particularly advisable for objects with many natural surface structures, such as figures, faces or organic shapes. Scanning my tree showed that tracking and point cloud generation work quickly and stably.
Particularly striking: even if the object briefly moved out of the field of view, the software automatically stabilized the alignment again without the scan being interrupted. This not only saves time, but also ensures a frustration-free workflow. This is especially true when scanning small objects or when scanning by hand. After the scan, you can make adjustments via the app.
The one-tap function is really cool. This ensures that I was able to make exactly the adjustments I wanted with just one click. All without any annoying fine-tuning. The texture capture works cleanly and delivers natural colors, which makes the models usable “out of the box”. Scans of technical components should also work great.
Finally, when I scanned a charging case for headphones, it became clear that features such as edges, gaps and hinges were captured cleanly. What I did notice, however, was that very dark or shiny surfaces were more difficult to capture. Here, professionals should probably use a suitable scanning spray to make surfaces more recognizable for the scanner. However, you have to bear in mind the price range of the INSPIRE 2. Therefore, one should not be too strict in this respect.

When scanning round, even objects such as footballs, you can use the enclosed dot stickers to clarify the geometry. After the test, I have to emphasize the ease of use of the scanner. The tracking was always stable. Even with fast movements. The optical zoom (1.5x / 2x) also allows fine details to be captured. Clean-up and model optimization are child’s play in just a few steps. No prior knowledge is required here. What I also really liked was the extremely stable WiFi connection between the smartphone and INSPIRE 2.
There were no noticeable delays when looking at the live view. This is particularly beneficial when scanning larger objects. One of the real highlights of the Revopoint Inspire 2 is undoubtedly its ability to scan with a total of 11 parallel lines. Although this is only possible using the software for PC or MacOS (expected release at the end of November), it nevertheless ensures greater accuracy and efficiency when scanning.
Conclusion
The Revopoint INSPIRE 2 proves that precise 3D scanning does not have to be expensive or complicated. The combination of 0.03 mm precision, stable tracking, mobile use and user-friendly software makes it a scanner that impresses both “hobby scanners” and professional users. The balance between mobility and accuracy is particularly impressive – a real “always with you” tool for creative and technical workflows.
