The market for upper-mid-range robot vacuums is getting more competitive. If you’re looking to spend around 900 euros, you have more great options today than ever before. Roborock is entering this segment with the Qrevo Edge 2, which looks quite promising at first glance. It boasts a whopping 25,000 Pa of suction power, a retractable LiDAR tower for an ultra-slim design, and a fully automatic base station with hot-water mop cleaning at up to 80 degrees. The name says it all. “Edge” isn’t just a marketing promise—it’s the actual design focus of the device. We took a closer look at what the Qrevo Edge 2 can really do in everyday use and where it makes compromises.

Design and Build Quality

The Qrevo Edge 2 fits perfectly into Roborock’s current design language: a rounded silhouette, clean surfaces, and a minimalist top. It’s available in white and black—and the black version has a nice bonus: fingerprints are much less noticeable than on many other dark-colored robots. The casing gives an overall impression of sturdiness, and the gaps are uniform.

The most striking design feature is the LiDAR tower, which—unlike on the vast majority of competitors—is not centered but has been deliberately offset toward the rear. This design feature serves a specific purpose: When approaching low furniture, the tower automatically retracts into the housing, reducing the robot’s height to just 7.98 cm and allowing it to reach areas where other models simply give up. And when retracted, it doesn’t continue cleaning blindly.

A dToF sensor handles navigation with a 100-degree field of view, while an LED provides assistance in low-light conditions. The DuoDivide main brush is located on the underside—a two-part system consisting of two parallel rollers with short bristles and spiral-shaped lamellae. It is designed to actively guide hair toward the ends of the brushes, thereby preventing tangles from the start. Roborock has had the system certified by SGS and TÜV.

The extendable FlexiArm-Arc side brush is also worth mentioning. It has an arched design and can be swung out to the side as needed to specifically target corners and wall edges. The system is complemented by an extendable mop on the right side that slides outward to clean along edges. The base station is a compact, portrait-oriented unit with an integrated dust bag, as well as fresh and dirty water tanks.

The clean water and dirty water tanks are accessible separately and can be removed with minimal effort. This is thanks to the practical carrying handles that Roborock has included. The station’s removable washing insert also makes it easier to clean the washing tray from time to time. In terms of build quality, there are no major issues with the station, although the plastic material appears slightly less premium when compared directly to the robot.

Setup

Setup follows the familiar Roborock process and goes off without a hitch. Set up the base station, attach the ramp, plug in the power cord, place the robot inside—and you’re done with the hardware. Next, open the Roborock app, scan the QR code under the robot’s cover, and follow the initial setup wizard. This includes Wi-Fi setup, a firmware update, and a few basic tips on settings and no-go zones. All of this is done in just a few minutes.

After that, send the robot on its first mapping run. This process requires a few minutes of waiting and a home that’s as tidy as possible, since the Qrevo Edge 2 should ideally navigate all areas without obstacles to create a clean map. The first map is usually created with precision—rooms are correctly separated from one another, and furniture is accurately recognized as such. If minor corrections are needed, that’s no problem.

The app provides tools for editing the map to make adjustments such as changes to the room layout or setting up restricted zones. Matter integration and connectivity with Alexa, Google Home, or Siri can also be set up via the app. The offline voice assistant “Hello Rocky” can be controlled by voice without a Wi-Fi connection and is active immediately after the initial setup.

Roborock App

The Roborock app is functional, feature-rich, and offers nearly everything you could want. It’s based on an automatically generated map where you can name rooms, draw restricted zones, and set custom cleaning sequences. Suction power and water flow can be adjusted separately for each zone. Example: Living room on medium power, kitchen on maximum, bedroom with low water flow. This gives you real control over the cleaning results.

The AI-powered SmartPlan 3.0 planning system can handle this task automatically if desired. It recognizes room types, analyzes cleaning habits, and independently selects the most appropriate strategy. In testing, this worked impressively—the robot automatically increased suction power on carpets and reduced the amount of water without requiring any user intervention. Schedules, cleaning reports, and a detailed cleaning history round out the app’s feature set.

The carpet options deserve special mention: In the app, you can specify whether the robot should lift its mop heads by 10 mm when crossing carpets or fully retract them into the charging station before moving onto carpeted areas. The latter feature works extremely reliably and consistently protects carpets from unwanted moisture.

Navigation and Obstacle Detection

When it comes to obstacle detection, the Qrevo Edge 2 generally performs well. The combination of LiDAR, a dToF sensor, and an RGB camera with structured light results in obstacle detection capable of distinguishing between 62 object types, which proved quite impressive in testing. Cables, small parts, flat objects—the robot detected and navigated around nearly everything with consistent reliability.

Thanks to the front-facing LED, it could do so even late at night and in dark corners. However, minor mishaps did occur occasionally. For example, in two out of ten cases, the robot sucked up a shoelace. So while cable detection usually works reliably, it isn’t 100% accurate. The retractable LiDAR tower is conceptually the most interesting feature of the device.

Anyone with furniture that has less than 10–11 cm of clearance from the floor will quickly notice the difference this design makes—the robot cleans thoroughly underneath, where other models would simply turn around. When retracted, it continues to navigate using the dToF sensor and reliably finds its way back to the base station. It does a good job of assessing narrow passages.

The Qrevo Edge 2 carefully checks narrow passages before navigating through them and reliably estimates its own dimensions. Only in one scenario—office chairs with multiple legs—can the robot occasionally get briefly stuck, though it usually frees itself on its own.

Suction Power

25,000 Pa HyperForce—that’s quite a claim, and the Qrevo Edge 2 delivers on what the number promises. It performs flawlessly on hard floors, leaving virtually no residue: oatmeal, rice grains, coffee beans—after a single cleaning cycle, I could hardly find any residue on my hard floor. Its edge cleaning is also impressive, thanks to the extendable side brush. On carpets, the Qrevo Edge 2 also performs better than one might expect from a model in this price range.

Short-pile carpets and low-pile textiles are cleaned almost completely, and the suction power automatically increases when switching to carpet. Can it keep up with mid-range models? However, a high-pile carpet with a very fluffy texture is a real challenge for the device. The problem here isn’t just extracting dirt from deeper fibers; on top of that, the robot had a hard time navigating the carpet. However, this shouldn’t be too much of a concern, since even flagship models struggle with this.

The DuoDivide main brush once again does an excellent job in everyday use. As the owner of two long-haired cats, it really proved its worth, and I couldn’t find any tangled hair. This promises low-maintenance operation. Should anything get tangled here, the brushes are incredibly easy to remove and clean.

Mopping Performance

When it comes to mopping, the Qrevo Edge 2 delivers solid but mixed results. It easily wipes away fresh stains, footprints, and light dirt on laminate or tile floors using its rotating mops and a mopping pressure of 8 N. Even slightly dried-on ketchup or jam residue disappears completely after two cleaning passes—provided you increase the water flow rate accordingly.

However, the system reaches its limits with more stubborn, heavily dried-on stains. In these cases, the contact pressure may be insufficient. Anyone who regularly has to deal with stubborn dirt will need to resort to manual touch-ups in such situations or activate the maximum water flow and plan for multiple cleaning passes. As expected, the mopping system also reaches its limits when dealing with larger amounts of liquid on the floor.

However, this is a common problem with models that use mopping pads, as experience shows they typically lack an integrated dirty water tank. Models with a mopping roller have a clear advantage here. One clear plus, however: Edge cleaning via the extendable mop on the right side is a real advantage. The mop glides precisely along walls and reaches spots that simply remain out of reach for robots with a fixed mopping configuration.

Carpet detection during mopping also works reliably: The robot stops in time, lifts the mops, and seamlessly switches to pure vacuuming mode. The Qrevo Edge 2 does not feature automatic cleaning solution dispensing. This isn’t a deal-breaker, but a dispensing station would be a nice extra for stubborn stains. If you still don’t want to do without it, you’ll need to manually add the cleaning solution to the fresh water tank.

Base Station in Everyday Use

The multifunctional base station is the backbone of the Qrevo Edge 2’s daily operation and functions largely autonomously. After each cleaning run, the robot docks on its own, and the integrated bag collects the dust from the robot’s 240-ml dustbin. Thanks to the station’s generously sized dust container (2,700 ml), the manufacturer claims it can last up to 65 days before needing to be replaced manually.

In a typical household without intensive daily use, this is a realistic estimate. The mopping cycle uses hot water up to 80 degrees, which is significantly more effective against grease buildup and potential bacterial contamination compared to models with 60-degree systems. Afterward, the mopping pads are dried with warm air at 45 degrees.

This step is important for preventing mold growth and unpleasant odors. The fresh water tank holds 4 liters, and the dirty water tank holds 3.5 liters. Depending on the cleaning intensity and the size of your home, this is enough for several cleaning cycles before you need to give it a quick manual clean.

The station’s removable washing insert is a practical feature: Instead of cleaning the entire station, you can simply remove the bottom of the docking area and rinse it under running water. Hot water is automatically refilled, which improves the mops’ cleaning efficiency with each subsequent pass.

Conclusion

The Roborock Qrevo Edge 2 is an impressive vacuum-and-mop robot with some truly unique selling points. The rear-mounted, retractable LiDAR tower isn’t a marketing gimmick, but a well-thought-out design decision that delivers tangible benefits in everyday use. Combined with its powerful suction of 25,000 Pa, reliable carpet detection, and the intelligent system of an extendable side brush and mop, it performs exceptionally well on both hard floors and carpets.

The mopping performance is solid, but it reaches its limits with stubborn stains without additional manual intervention. Occasionally, there are also issues with obstacle detection when encountering very small obstacles. For around 900 euros, however, you get a device that is clearly one of the better options in the upper mid-range. Pet owners, people with long hair, and anyone who values thorough cleaning—even under low furniture—will find the Qrevo Edge 2 to be a good choice.
