The scope of delivery of the S50 Green-Beam laser measuring device is absolutely convincing. The actual device is not only supplied in a robust and attractively designed cardboard box, but is also transported directly in a plastic case. This means that the laser measuring device can be easily transported in a rucksack and is still protected from external influences.

What’s more, the two AA batteries required to operate the S50 are included and can be used straight away. If they run out, the two batteries can be recharged directly via the USB-C cable, which is also included in the scope of delivery. Thanks to this power, the measuring device can be used continuously for eight hours, according to the manufacturer. However, as it switches off automatically after three minutes at the latest if it is not being used, the battery realistically lasts much longer.

The overall package also includes a carrying strap to attach the transport case to a rucksack or belt. There is also a comprehensive instruction manual that explains all the data and functions in detail.

High-quality workmanship that impresses

There are no flaws to mention, either visually or in terms of workmanship. The S50 Green-Beam itself has a housing made of high-quality plastic, which is pleasantly lightweight and has a strong feel. The built-in buttons are also easy to use due to their size and can even be pressed with smeared fingers or work gloves.

The overall design is well thought out: the buttons are color-coded and the most important functions are easy to understand and can be used directly, even without a manual. The screen provides an organized overview of all measurement data and features and the green laser beam itself is easy to see even at long distances.

The charging socket is hidden on the underside under a rubberized flap, which provides additional protection against dust. This makes the S50 Green-Beam from Mileseey Tools perfect for use on any construction site.

Operating the S50 Green-Beam

The laser measuring device from Mileseey Tools was designed for a clear use case and has a correspondingly simple structure. The large green button in the middle starts and stops the measuring process, while the red button switches the device on and off.

The two plus and minus arrows help to subtract and add distances respectively, which makes measuring even easier. The button above the minus switches between the 17 different measurement modes, while the button above the plus provides access to the settings. Among other things, the language, unit or font size and volume of the beeps can be selected here.

The button under the minus arrow acts as a reference switch and sets whether the measurement starts at the back, front or center of the laser measuring device. The button under the plus arrow, on the other hand, provides access to previous measurements. This is particularly useful if, for example, windows have been measured but the data is to be entered into a computer later.

Free app connection possible

The electronic measuring device has modern Bluetooth connectivity. This means it can be connected to smartphones such as the new Motorola Signature or tablets and integrated into your own planning via various apps. We used the “Smart Life” app for our test and the connection worked immediately without any problems.

However, it should be noted that various internet forums warn that not all third-party apps recognize the S50 device. So if you are already using another app to read out data, you should find out in advance whether the software is supported.

In the app itself, we were able to read out all measurement data directly and even share it with other users. So if you work in a team and want to share the information or pass the measurement data on to customers, you have the option here.

We could also label all the data in the app so that we could record exactly what was measured, even days later.

Practical test of the S50 Green Beam laser measuring device

Anyone who has ever renovated, refurbished or even built a house on their own will know that there is a lot to measure. In our practical test, the S50 Green-Beam from Mileseey Tools was used to measure windows, to find out the exact room area for laying carpets and to record how many square meters of battens are needed for new ceilings. The laser measuring device has even been used to measure garden sections.

In all cases, the modern tool was thoroughly convincing. Above all, the ability to save various measurement results and call them up again at a later date is really practical and helpful. What’s more, it can deliver absolutely reliable results even when there is dust in the air or in relatively bright lighting conditions indoors.

The many different modes are also absolutely ingenious, because thanks to mathematical calculations they even help to find out wall lengths of walls that don’t even exist yet. All of this can of course be calculated manually, but the modern device provides immediate support and makes everyday life much easier.

High mobility for flexible use

Another plus point is the compact design and robust outer shell. This means that the S50 Green-Beam can be stowed away perfectly in any pair of work trousers and, thanks to the practical carrying case, the device can also be easily transported on or in a rucksack.

The automatic switch-off also scores points in this context: If you miss something, you can simply put the technology gadget in your trouser pocket before the next measurement is taken. If this takes longer than 180 seconds, the device switches itself off, thus saving energy. Switching it on again at the touch of a button then only takes one second.

The optional strap, which can be attached to the device, makes it easy to attach to a belt or other means of transportation. This is also practical for all users who want to have the measuring device immediately to hand.

Not only suitable for professional craftsmen

With its comparatively high purchase price, the laser measuring device from Mileseey Tools should mainly be of interest to tradespeople who measure a lot for a living. In this case, however, the purchase price is a more than fair offer, as the running time, ease of use and the many options are thoroughly convincing.

However, interested hobby craftsmen should also be quite satisfied with the range of functions of the S50 Green-Beam, as the device fulfills its purpose for both simple and more complex tasks.

Minor criticism: Visibility and range

We do have some criticism to make of the otherwise thoroughly convincing device, as the maximum range specified by the manufacturer on the official website is 120 meters. In our practical test, however, the laser of the S50 Green-Beam could no longer be seen after about 35 meters. The test was carried out in daylight, which is probably the biggest problem.

After all, anyone trying to find a small green laser dot at 50 meters or more during the day is unlikely to be successful. The range of the device is therefore most likely to depend on your own eyesight and the lighting conditions. The 120 meters mentioned are more of a technical maximum distance. Although the fact that the green laser light is said to be four times brighter than sunlight helps, 120 meters seems utopian.

Compact, lightweight and extremely robust. The S50 Green-Beam has been designed to be practical in every respect. It also offers a wealth of different and useful features. The operation is well thought out, the laser accuracy lives up to its name and the memory function for multiple measured values is thoroughly convincing.

Ultimately, the laser measuring device is probably more suitable for professionals and ambitious hobby craftsmen, not least because of the rather high purchase price. But if you are willing to pay the price, you will get a high-quality and really powerful product that does not disappoint.
