Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI Test: Design and workmanship

Samsung stands for outstanding build quality in almost all its products. Given the high price, I expected nothing less from the BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI. And this is where the South Koreans score once again. I really like the combination of matt white and a few black highlights. Everything feels extremely high-quality and it doesn’t creak or crack at any point. Thanks to the matte surface, you don’t have to worry about ugly fingerprints either.

Robo with a classic design

When it comes to the robot hoover itself, Samsung takes a classic approach to design. Measuring 359 x 100 x 364 mm, the smart household helper is as good as circular. This should be of particular benefit when cleaning corners. There is also a small turret on the top. This is where the LiDAR unit for navigation is located.

There is also a small control panel here, which can be used to make rudimentary entries such as start/pause or send back to the station. The maintenance flap on the top also provides access to the vacuum cleaner’s dust container and the WiFi LED. Looking at the front of the Jet Bot Combo AI, you can see another centerpiece for orientation.

This is where the camera unit and LED are located, which is used for object recognition and obstacle avoidance. In combination with artificial intelligence, even small obstacles such as LEGO bricks or cables should be skillfully detected. We’ll find out later whether the plan works. The charging contacts, which are used to charge the robot’s battery in the multifunction station, are located on the back.

A look at the underside also reveals no major surprises. Samsung relies on two rotating mops that move at a fast 170 rpm. These have now established themselves in the flagship segment of robot vacuums. Unfortunately, the pads cannot be extended, which would make cleaning around skirting boards easier.

The significantly cheaper Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 (review, € 527.90 *) or a Roborock Qrevo Master (review, € 899.99 *), for example, have this to offer. In the middle of the underside is the main brush, which Samsung itself describes as a “high-performance brush”. A closer look reveals that the brush is divided into two parts.

In the middle is a kind of shredder, which is designed to skillfully shred hair, dust fluff and other larger dirt particles. The shape of the brush resembles an hourglass, which means that hair and other debris are automatically moved to the center and shredded. If something does get stuck, the brush can be easily removed.

Multifunction station with steam cleaning

There is now hardly a flagship model on the robot vacuum cleaner market that doesn’t have an all-in-one station. It therefore comes as no surprise that Samsung has also developed a multifunctional base station for its latest top-of-the-range model. It is an excellent visual match for the robot vacuum. Together, they remind me of other design highlights such as an Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni (review, € 829.00 *).

Access to the station’s three tanks is via the top. The fresh water tank has a capacity of 4 liters, the dirty water tank has space for 3.6 liters and the dust bag holds 2.5 liters. The lower area of the station is not only used to charge the Robo when it is making a pit stop. It is also where the mops are cleaned and the small integrated water tank of the smart household helper is filled with fresh water so that it always has enough on board.

When it comes to cleaning the robot vacuum, Samsung sets new standards in terms of hygiene. After all, the mop pads are not only given a hot water wash. The Steam+ system also uses steam cleaning to disinfect the mopping surfaces with 100°C steam. By preventing the formation of bacteria, unpleasant odors don’t stand a chance. The mop pads are then dried with hot air at 55°C.

Of course, we must not forget the suction function. The collected dust and other dirt in the robot’s dirt container are sucked up by the station and end up in the dust container. This should last an average of 2 to 3 months before it needs to be replaced with a new one. Good news for allergy sufferers: the multi-layer filter system ensures that 99.99% of fine dust is filtered out during vacuuming.

Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI test: App control

To set up the Jet Combo AI, you need to download the Smartthings app from Samsung. This is the tech company’s interface for all its devices with app control. For example, if you are already operating one of the manufacturer’s televisions via the app, you can simply add the vacuum cleaner as a new device without having to create a new app or account.

The setup itself is quite quick. Once the vacuum cleaner has been added as a new device, you can directly start the maiden voyage, where a map of your home is created. The software is also impressive when it comes to setting options.

For example, you can create exclusion zones or invisible walls in the map. You can also define details about how you work and cleaning modes. So far, so familiar. However, I was annoyed by the app several times in practice. On the one hand, there were annoying performance problems, disconnections, long loading times and sometimes even crashes.

On the other hand, I miss the ease of use for more detailed settings in the map. It is sometimes really fiddly to make fine adjustments here. The competitor is also ahead in terms of overview. Samsung really needs to improve in this respect.

Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI test: Practical test

In the practical test, we put the Jet Bot Combo AI under the microscope in various disciplines. During operation, it wasn’t just the cleaning performance when vacuuming and mopping that counted for me. We also took a closer look at the navigation and obstacle detection.

Navigation

As already mentioned, the Samsung Robo relies on a small LiDAR turret on the top of the device. The LiDAR sensor technology relies on laser distance measurement, which ensures that the Robo can navigate just as well in absolute darkness as in brightly lit rooms. When creating the map, it became clear that the lasers in the smart household helper cut a fine figure.

The final map was impressive – even if industry leaders such as Roborock or Dreame deliver even better results with more detail. In practice, however, I was confident that the Samsung would always clean room by room in a structured manner. This worked very well most of the time. However, the smart household helper sometimes made embarrassing mistakes.

For example, it took an immensely long time to clean my small bathroom without any serious obstacles, whereas it finished much more complex rooms much faster. It also happened from time to time that the Jet Bot Combo AI had problems returning to its base after cleaning. Whether this was due to the LiDAR sensor technology or the rest of the sensor set that the vacuum cleaner has is up for debate.

Obstacle detection

While the navigation results were rather mediocre, I was impressed by the obstacle detection performance. According to the manufacturer, the Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI can even detect and avoid obstacles with a size of 1 cm. And in practice, it actually worked really well! Even flat cables were no problem for the robot. In the test, the robot didn’t touch a single object that was in its way.

Even cables are skillfully avoided

The 3D camera system at the front is at the heart of this. But in my opinion, it is primarily the subsequent AI-based image evaluation that ensures the reliability of obstacle avoidance. Accordingly, I can attest that the Samsung robot has the best obstacle detection and avoidance on board that I have ever had the pleasure of admiring in a robot vacuum. Even the Narwal Freo Z Ultra (review, € 949.00 *) can’t keep up with it.

Suction power

The vacuuming results on hard and carpeted floors were really good. The smart household helper hardly left any dirt behind. I particularly liked the carpet cleaning. Similar to a Dreame L20 Ultra (review, € 880.87 *), the Samsung Robo can also park its mop pads in the station. This is particularly useful for long-pile carpets.

Although the BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI can also lift its mop pads when it moves over carpets, this is sometimes not enough to completely avoid moistening the fibers. The robot’s main brush cuts a good figure, but I wasn’t really convinced by the system. In my household with two cats and a dog, vacuum cleaners inevitably have to deal with a lot of hair.

Despite the hourglass design with a central shredder, some hair gets tangled up in the main brush. I like the classic solid rubber brushes of the Roborock and Dreame flagships much better in this respect. However, if you don’t have pets, the whole thing should bother you much less anyway. If hair does get tangled up, it can be easily removed from the brush. After all, you can easily remove them.

Mopping performance

In terms of mopping performance, the Samsung Robo once again cuts a really good figure. The smart household helper can reliably remove even stubborn stains. This is not only due to the fact that the two mopping pads can rotate quickly and are pressed onto the floor with contact pressure, which provides additional friction. Artificial intelligence is also used here. After all, the BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI can not only recognize different surfaces.

Stains are also detected and removed in a targeted manner. The vacuum cleaner recognizes heavy soiling and then treats the corresponding areas more thoroughly than other areas. And that’s not all. On top of that, the smart robot also prepares itself specifically for such challenges. If it is about to clean a stubborn stain, it first returns to its station. Once there, it is pretreated with hot steam.

The Samsung then returns to the affected area with the moistened and heated mop pads and removes the stain. Even grease stains can be effectively tackled in this way. Especially with regard to this feature, I seriously ask myself why Samsung does not have a retractable wiping pad on its household helper? The uncleaned edge that is inevitably left behind tarnishes the otherwise positive cleaning result.

The Robo can park the mop pads in the station

Unfortunately, this is not the only problem with the mopping function of the smart household helper. I also noticed in practice that the Robo tends to leave small puddles of water behind. This is not because the Samsung vacuum cleaner has a leak. Rather, the reason for this is probably that it loses water from the integrated water tank or the corresponding filling hole. In my opinion, this should not be the case in this price range.

Conclusion

The Samsung BESPOKE Jet Combo AI presents itself as an innovative flagship among robot vacuums and scores with numerous high-end features. The steam cleaning function is particularly impressive, setting new hygiene standards with 100°C steam and reliably removing even stubborn stains. Thanks to a 3D camera system and AI support, the appliance’s obstacle detection is outstanding and outperforms all the robotic vacuum cleaners I have tested so far.

The suction power is also impressive, especially on carpets, although pet hair occasionally gets caught in the main brush. The multifunctional station with automatic cleaning, steam cleaning, fresh water refilling and hot air drying is another plus point.

However, some weaknesses cloud the overall impression: navigation is not always optimal and the app is sometimes unstable and not very convenient to use. In addition, an extendable wiping pad would be desirable to enable edge cleaning. Overall, the BESPOKE Jet Combo AI delivers a good overall package, but is primarily aimed at users who are willing to pay a high price for innovative features. It is clear that you get more ease of use and a better cleaning performance for significantly less money.
