The audio professionals at Teufel have years of expertise in the field of gaming headsets. Be it with the affordable CAGE One (our test) or the highly customizable Zola (our test). Teufel CAGE Pro Review: Elegant look with RGB

  • elegant, matt design
  • good workmanship
  • comfortable fit

The new Teufel CAGE Pro is not only the manufacturer’s most ambitious gaming headset from a technical point of view, but also in terms of design and workmanship. With a weight of 345 grams, the CAGE Pro is undoubtedly one of the heavier headsets, but scores points for its high-quality and robust workmanship.

The gaming headset also looks great. It features a matt black, anodized plastic design, in which not only the mesh-look Teufel Ts on the ear cups stand out, but also the red cables and markings in the ear cups provide a nice contrast.

On the back of both ear cups there is RGB lighting, which is kept quite discreet and can be adjusted in terms of color within the accompanying software.

The wearing comfort of the Teufel CAGE Pro is good. The headset owes this above all to the generous ear pads, which are nicely flexible and offer sufficient space at 6.5 cm x 4.5 cm. However, the Teufel is not quite as comfortable as other headsets in this price range – the ear pads could be a little softer.

Features, operation and practical test

  • Connection via radio, Bluetooth and cable
  • Virtual 7.1 surround sound
  • convincing operation

The Teufel CAGE Pro is also very well equipped. The wireless gaming headset can either be powered via the included USB-A dongle or can be paired with smartphones, tablets and other devices via Bluetooth – and even with two devices simultaneously thanks to Multipoint.

Teufel CAGE Pro
2.4 GHz radio and Bluetooth are available as wireless standards

Unfortunately, high-resolution Bluetooth codecs are not offered. Alternatively, wired use via a 3.5 mm jack is also possible – the headset is therefore extremely versatile in terms of connectivity.

In terms of sound, DTS Headphone: X provides a virtual 7.1 surround sound. The operating concept is also pleasantly simple and well thought-out. On the left-hand side, you will find a button to mute the microphone and a volume dial that is easy to grip but not rasterized. On the left you will also find the slot for the microphone, which is held magnetically in the housing.

On the right, there is a multifunction button that can be adjusted within the Teufel Audio Center app. For example, to adjust the brightness of the lighting. There is also a switch that can be used to quickly switch between Bluetooth and wireless, followed by the obligatory on/off button.

App connection and battery life

  • average app
  • 68 hours of battery life via radio

Speaking of the app: This proved to be somewhat problematic during the test and was often unable to find the connected headset after restarting the PC. Even though it was playing sound. Hmpf.

The app’s range of functions leaves little to be desired, even if the design could be a little clearer. You can use the equalizer to influence the sound – even in 10 bands if you wish. You can also set the surround sound and adjust the microphone.

In terms of battery life, the Teufel CAGE Pro is well equipped. Up to 68 hours are possible via radio, via Bluetooth the part even reaches up to 88 hours.

Playback and recording quality

  • Warm, full sound, but…
  • … strong emphasis on the bass range
  • very good spatiality

Perhaps the greatest strength of the Teufel CAGE Pro is undoubtedly the sound of the gaming headset. This is because the sound is voluminous, detailed and powerful. This is thanks to the built-in full-range drivers with a diameter of 40 mm, which cover a frequency range from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

The sound is quite bass-heavy, which means that explosions, gunshot noises and other effects are shown to their best advantage. Even if, for my taste, the fine details in the highs and mids are somewhat lost as a result. Of course, the CAGE Pro is also fun to listen to music with, although fans of neutral mixes will undoubtedly not be happy here.

Depending on the equalizer, the treble can sound a little strained and exaggerated, especially at high volumes. Using the equalizer to counteract this helps noticeably. Overall, however, the sound lacks that certain something that some competitors from beyerdynamic or Steelseries offer, which sound noticeably more detailed and rounder.

The spatiality is already excellent in stereo mode, but benefits noticeably from the virtual 7.1 surround sound. However, this has an effect on the level of detail of the sound image. Basically, what Teufel delivers here from a sound perspective is already very good.

Microphone quality of the Teufel CAGE Pro

  • average microphone quality

The weak point of the Teufel CAGE Pro is undoubtedly the microphone, even though the manufacturer provides the headset with an HD condenser microphone. However, the rather short and not really flexible microphone boom makes it somewhat difficult to place the mic in front of the mouth.

More Information

Unfortunately, the sound coming out of the microphone is very muffled and lacking in detail. Some headsets that are half the price manage this much better. The quality offered is sufficient for usable speech intelligibility in games, but you shouldn’t expect much more.

Teufel CAGE Pro Review: Conclusion

The Teufel CAGE Pro is undoubtedly the manufacturer’s best gaming headset to date. It scores with an appealing design, very good workmanship and high wearing comfort. The headset is also very versatile thanks to its dual wireless connectivity and jack connection and cuts a fine figure on all platforms. The battery life is also more than impressive.

In terms of sound, however, the headset didn’t completely convince me, even though it sounds really good. Personally, the bass is too overpowering for me. Despite adjustments in the app, I prefer the sound of other competitors. The microphone quality is also only average.

Nevertheless, the Teufel CAGE Pro is an interesting choice. Especially if the price drops a little. You can get better headsets for 200 euros.
