As soon as you unbox it, it’s clear this is no lightweight. Weighing about six kilograms—including the device and docking station—the box feels quite substantial. Unlike a traditional steam mop, the Steam Plus leaves no wet trail behind: The dirty water ends up immediately in the tank, and the floor is almost dry after a pass.

However, this energy-intensive steam technology has one drawback: The Steam Plus runs on a cord instead of a battery. It would be nearly impossible to power the 1,440 watts with a battery. To compensate, Tineco includes an 8.3-meter-long cord, which gives you plenty of reach. In most apartments, this means you’ll only need to unplug and replug it once or twice. Anyone used to the freedom of a cordless device will have to adjust. On the other hand, there’s no time limit on usage and no breaks for charging.

Tanks & Water Management

The Steam Plus is generous when it comes to its tank system. The fresh water tank holds a full liter, making it the largest in the Tineco lineup. Combined with corded operation, this means long cleaning sessions without interruption. The dirty water tank holds 0.72 liters and separates solids from liquids using a strainer. This keeps crumbs and dirt separate from the dirty water, making it easy to dispose of them in the trash. Both tanks can be removed and reinserted in a single step. Operation & Modes: Four Settings Up to Steam

There are four modes to choose from in total. Auto mode mops in the traditional way without steam and automatically adjusts the power via the iLoop sensor. Steam mode activates the steam unit. Let’s get down to business. On an open surface, the Steam Plus had to tackle a nasty combination: iced tea, sugar, potting soil, and a handful of dog hair. Sweet liquid plus crumbly soil creates exactly the kind of mess that tends to spread over a large area. The hair on top is the true test for the DualBlock Anti-Tangle brush. A realistic scenario for any household with balcony plants, a dog, and the occasional mishap.

The result is impressive: the Steam Plus handles the mix well. The iced tea, along with the sugar, disappeared into the dirty water tank without leaving any sticky residue. The roller also reliably picked up the potting soil. The dog hair disappeared right along with it—into the tank, rather than wrapping around the roller. This is where the anti-tangle brush does its job. Steam really pays off, especially with sticky messes. The heat dissolves the sugar film that conventional wet-vacuum cleaners tend to leave behind as streaks. The floor felt clean after cleaning and wasn’t sticky afterward.

A quick note on noise levels. The Steam Plus is audible when in use, but the noise is within the typical range for wet vacuum cleaners. The steaming process itself is surprisingly unobtrusive. There’s no loud hissing like with some steam cleaners; the steam works invisibly beneath the floor nozzle. Only the slightly warm floor behind the unit indicates that heat is being used. After passing over the area, the residual moisture actually dries even faster due to the heat than with its cordless counterparts.

Tough Test in the Bathroom: Steam vs. Built-Up Limescale

Things got really interesting in the bathroom. Over time, a layer of limescale had built up on the tiles there. Such deposits usually require a limescale remover and vigorous scrubbing. The Steam Plus was put to the test to see if hot steam alone could handle it.

We proceeded without any special treatment. No pre-spraying, no soaking, no limescale cleaner. Just the Steam Plus in steam mode, moving in smooth, slow strokes over the affected tiles. You’ll need to be patient, though. For the stubborn spots, it took a good 10 to 15 passes over the same area. The steam works its way through the buildup layer by layer. It doesn’t work miracles in a second—but it’s worth sticking with it.

And indeed: The steam visibly took a toll on the limescale. In many places, the deposits disappeared completely after several slow passes; on more stubborn edges, only faint traces remained. The tiles looked smoother and shinier afterward than before. The difference was not only visible but also clearly noticeable to the touch. For us, this is the most impressive result of the entire Tineco Floor One S6 Stretch Steam Plus test. Here, the steam technology delivers real added value that traditional wet vacuums simply cannot offer.

Edge Cleaning: Salt, Flour, and Herbs

For edge cleaning, the Steam Plus had to tackle a dry mixture of salt, flour, and herbs. Flour, in particular, is a bit tricky because it clings to edges and quickly becomes sticky when exposed to moisture.

On open surfaces, the Steam Plus performed well. Most of the mixture disappeared immediately, and even the herbs and salt were picked up thoroughly. However, a fine rim of flour remained right at the edge in the grout line. It looks more pronounced in the photo than it did in person, but it still illustrates the limitation quite well: The Steam Plus performs better on open surfaces than right at the edge.

The second pass removed a bit more, but left a fine residue along the edge. In everyday use, this isn’t a major issue, but with flour or similarly fine powders, the limitations of the design become quite apparent. Such residues are usually removed more quickly with a cloth or handheld vacuum.

The Issue with Grout Lines

We need to clearly point out one limitation of the steam cleaning method. On smooth surfaces, the hot steam is really powerful. On floors with many grout lines, however, it isn’t always the best choice. Hot steam can seep into open or damaged grout lines. Caution is advised with sensitive grout, waxed floors, or unsealed hardwood. Prolonged use of steam can wear down such materials over time.

If you have a lot of tiled surfaces with intact grout lines, you have little to worry about. For laminate or vinyl with many seams, however, it’s worth checking the flooring manufacturer’s instructions. If necessary, the Steam Plus can also be used without steam in “Auto” mode. In this mode, it works like a traditional wet vacuum. The flexibility is there—you just need to use it wisely.

Using Steam Correctly: Our Tips

We’ve gathered a few insights from our test runs:

1. Use the modes strategically. For a quick clean here and there, Auto mode without steam is often sufficient. Steam mode is the choice for thorough cleaning. And save Boost mode for tough stains like limescale and dried-on grease.
2. For delicate floors, check the manufacturer’s instructions for the flooring first. If in doubt, it’s better to mop in Auto mode without steam.
3. Plan for the warm-up phase and start the device while you’re preparing the room. That way, you won’t waste any time.
4. Lay out the long cord roughly before you start. That way, you won’t have to unplug and replug it in the middle of cleaning.

Self-cleaning: Just turn it off—that’s it

After the test runs, the Steam Plus returned to its docking station. There, the self-cleaning function takes over—and it really impressed us. The roller and channels are automatically rinsed out, and then the brush is dried. The roller came out clean and dry. Musty odors—the typical problem with steam mops—were completely absent.

This is particularly consistent with this device’s design philosophy. A steam mop with a constantly damp, smelly roller would render its own concept absurd. Here, the big picture adds up: The floor gets cleaned without chemicals, and the device stays that way, too.

However, its power cord keeps it tethered to an outlet. The S7 Max Pro and the Fold Elite, on the other hand, move freely throughout the home. Who is the Steam Plus best for?

In our test, the Tineco Floor One S6 Stretch Steam Plus demonstrated exactly what it was built for. Steam cleaning is effective and requires no cleaning solution at all. This is a definite plus, especially in households with children and pets. It delivered its best results in the bathroom: many limescale marks disappeared, stubborn stains became noticeably lighter, and the tiles felt smoother. It also handled iced tea, sugar, potting soil, and dog hair well—without the hair getting tangled in the roller. The self-cleaning feature rounds out the package and keeps the roller clean.

There are still some limitations, however. For floors with many grout lines, steam isn’t always the best choice and should be used with care. Edge cleaning is decent but not top-notch. And the cord restricts freedom of movement, even though the 8.3 m length provides plenty of leeway.

The bottom line is that the Steam Plus isn’t an all-rounder, but rather a specialist.
