Tineco Pure One A50S (Plus) test: design and workmanship
The color scheme of the A50S is clearly reminiscent of other models in Tineco’s Pure One series. I was particularly reminded of the Tineco Pure One Air PET+ (Review, € 303.90 *). This cordless vacuum cleaner also uses a combination of black and white. The suction tube again comes in matt gray, which makes for a harmonious overall look.
But apart from the color palette, the A50S does a lot differently to its sibling in terms of design. On the one hand, this concerns the handpiece in the upper part of the device. With the A50S, Tineco has opted for a pleasantly ergonomic handle that offers two holding options thanks to its angled shape. This is a great advantage, especially for longer cleaning sessions or hard-to-reach areas.
Tineco has also designed the small display, which sits directly above the hand and is easy to see when in use, slightly differently. While it was circular on the Air PET+, it is now more square with rounded corners in combination with two input buttons. In the test, the combination of buttons and display reminded me of the Roborock Flexi Pro (Review, € 426.99 *).
When talking about the handpiece, the 1-liter dust container should of course not be left out. The whole thing is rounded off with a rechargeable battery in a replaceable design. We are delighted that Tineco has opted for interchangeability. After all, this makes the A50S a sustainable, long-lasting appliance.
In the standard design, the handpiece ends in the suction pipe. And this has a real treat to offer with the A50S. At the touch of a button, it can be angled to reach areas under the couch. The main brush, which Tineco calls the “Power Brush”, is located at the very bottom.
This has a few exciting sensors, which we will literally illuminate later. It’s not just the look of the A50S that is harmonious. The build quality is also at an extremely high level. It doesn’t crack or creak at any point. Attachments snap into place smoothly and can also be removed again quickly.
Incidentally, the A50S comes from the factory with a matching wall bracket. This also has space for the two attachments that Tineco includes in the scope of delivery. Personally, I’m not a big fan of wall mounts and prefer floor-standing solutions such as the Air PET+. Wall mounts are always less flexible.
Tineco Pure One A50S (Plus) test: 3DSense Power Brush
A real highlight of the Tineco is its power brush. The expert for smart household helpers has installed a lot of technology here to ensure comprehensive cleaning. During cleaning, the first thing you notice is the lighting called LightSense. The A50S has an integrated LED, which is located directly in front of the main brush and conjures up green light on the floor at an extremely wide 120-degree angle.
Thanks to the light, dust residues can be detected quickly, especially in darker areas. The green light is designed to make particles as small as 0.02 mm visible. Together with the other sensor technologies DustSense and EdgeSense, the smart cordless vacuum cleaner is said to have a 66% increase in cleaning efficiency.
As the name DustSense suggests, this is a dirt sensor that analyzes floor dirt and adjusts the suction power accordingly in three stages. EdgeSense, on the other hand, is designed to significantly improve cleaning around edges.
As soon as the Power Brush is 5 cm or less away from a furniture edge, skirting board or other edge, the suction power switches, which also sucks in dirt around the brush.
Tineco Pure One A50S (Plus) test: ZeroTangle brush
To ensure that even large dirt particles such as cornflakes can be sucked up without any problems, the power brush also uses the so-called ClogLess system. The combination of a specially shaped brush head, wide suction tube and large connection opening minimizes the risk of blockages. This means that the vacuum cleaner always offers optimum suction power. Although the A50S is not explicitly labeled as a “PET” appliance by Tineco, it is perfect for pet owners.
This is not only due to the solid suction power of 185 watts, which allows it to cope with long pet hair without any problems. The manufacturer’s tried-and-tested ZeroTangle technology is also used again here. The V-shaped bristles not only enable pet hair and other dirt to be vacuumed up efficiently. The brush is then combed through, so to speak, which skillfully prevents tangled hair. Even after several vacuuming sessions, I couldn’t find any tangled hair on my golden retriever or my two long-haired cats. So the system works really well.
Tineco Pure One A50S (Plus) test: Practical test
Now that we’ve taken a closer look at the features of the Tineco vacuum cleaner, let’s see how the smart household helper performs in everyday life. In our practical test, in addition to the cleaning performance, I also took a close look at the ease of use, battery performance and the necessary maintenance work.
Cleaning performance
As already mentioned, the A50S offers a solid but not earth-shattering suction power of 185 watts. A Tineco Pure One Air Pro (Review, € 329.00 *), for example, offers significantly more with 230 watts. However, high performance is only useful if the device can also transfer the power to the floor.
This is definitely the case with the A50S. I was really impressed by the cordless vacuum cleaner on both hard floors and carpets. The smart features that Tineco has installed here also proved their worth. Let’s start with the LED lighting. If a surface seemed completely clean to me when it was not cleaned, I could still see a lot of dirt when the lighting was switched on.
The light ensures that even the last remnants of dust are removed from the floor. In the test, I confronted the vacuum cleaner with various challenges, most of which it mastered with flying colors. In addition to rice grains and cornflakes, I also had it remove pet hair and, of course, the usual dust. It did a good job, which was not only due to the automatic adjustment of the suction power. I was also pleasantly surprised by its edge cleaning.
With its EdgeSense technology, the Tineco is well ahead of many other models in this respect. However, despite the helpful features, the A50S cannot keep up with the power of a Dreame Z30 (Review, € 499.00 *). It simply lacks the horsepower, which means that you have to drive over some areas several times. However, the Tineco also costs significantly less, which is why a direct comparison here would be unfair.
Ease of use
The A50S can also be used as a practical handheld vacuum cleaner. Tineco includes various attachments for this purpose. For example, the 2-in-1 crevice nozzle can be used to remove dust from delicate furniture surfaces and chip crumbs from sofa crevices.
The upholstery brush, on the other hand, is perfect for cleaning the seats of sofas, armchairs or even car seats. The flexible suction tube of the smart household helper is a highlight when it comes to ease of use. It can be bent in the middle at the touch of a button, allowing the vacuum cleaner to reach under flat furniture.
This is especially perfect for cleaning under the couch or sideboard. During cleaning, I also noticed the design of the handle very positively. This allows you to change the hand position if necessary, so that the vacuum cleaner is always optimally positioned for cleaning higher or lower surfaces.
The display of the Tineco Pure One A50S is probably best described as “small but nice”. It certainly can’t compete with full-blown premium displays like that of a Tineco Floor One S7 Pro (Review, € 719.00 *). But in my opinion, you don’t need to.
The most important parameters can be seen at a glance on the screen. In addition to the battery status, you can also see the suction mode and the results of the iLoop dirt sensor. However, I would have preferred a percentage figure for the battery level. Instead, there are green bars, which is why you can only ever make a rough estimate of the battery level.
Battery and maintenance
With a battery life of up to 70 minutes, the A50S plays in the same league as the really big ones. But what convinces me even more is the replaceable battery design. As it can be easily removed, users can extend the suction time even further with suitable replacement batteries. What’s more, the A50S doesn’t have to suffer the fate of being thrown away prematurely just because of a faulty battery.
A new rechargeable battery can easily give it a new lease of life. Maintenance of the cordless vacuum cleaner is quick and uncomplicated. This is mainly due to the smart design of the dust container. You have to love it for its large volume alone, which is significantly larger than that of most of the competition. After all, this ensures that you rarely have to empty the container.
However, when the time comes, the corresponding flap above the bin can be opened by simply pulling a lever. This allows you to empty the bin without getting yourself dirty. This is not only convenient, but also ideal for allergy sufferers. After all, you hardly come into contact with dust and other dirt.
You should also clean the six-fold filter system at regular intervals. This can be easily cleaned under running water. And that can add up to a lot. After all, the filter system captures up to 99.99% of all dirt particles. Then just let it dry and you can vacuum again.
Conclusion
The Tineco Pure One A50S impresses as a versatile and intelligent cordless vacuum cleaner with modern features and good cleaning performance. The 3DSense Power Brush, which uses smart functions such as DustSense and EdgeSense to optimally adjust the suction power and efficiently clean edges, is particularly impressive. The LED lighting makes it possible to detect and remove even the smallest dust particles, which makes cleaning even more thorough.
The flexible suction tube and ergonomic handle ensure a high level of user comfort, especially in hard-to-reach areas. The suction power of 185 watts is sufficient for everyday use, even if it cannot quite keep up with more powerful models. Pet owners benefit from the ZeroTangle technology, which effectively sucks up pet hair without it getting tangled up in the brush.
With a battery life of up to 70 minutes and a replaceable battery, the A50S offers high flexibility and durability. Maintenance is also easy thanks to the large dust container and the washable filter system, which guarantees allergy-friendliness. For an RRP of 299 euros, the Tineco Pure One A50S offers great value for money, even if it does not come close to top models in terms of suction power.
