Tribit Stormbox Pro – Bluetooth speaker with decent (X)bass

With the Stormbox Pro, Tribit introduced a new, portable Bluetooth speaker about three months ago, which wants to score with two midrange tweeters in combination with a woofer and two passive membranes. In addition, there is an IP67 certification, a stereo mode, as well as a 10,000 mAh battery, through which the speaker can last for 24 hours.

Whether the Tribit Stormbox Pro can keep its promise, and how the device performs in practice for its current price of Price not available * [test time: €95], we will clarify in the following test.

Scope of delivery

The Stormbox Pro is delivered in a colorful cardboard box, which contains the Bluetooth speaker. In addition, a non-sleeved USB-C charging cable with a length of 0.5 meters is also included, as well as a warranty card and a manual explaining the various functions.

Design & Processing

If Tribit’s product images are to be believed, there are five acoustic elements inside the Stormbox Pro. On the side under the handles are the two tweeter-midrange, front and rear are the passive diaphragms. On the other hand, a bass-midrange driver is responsible for the bass, which is located in the center of the case and emits the sound waves laterally.

Nothing of all this is visible on the outside: All four sides are firmly covered with patterned fabric. This is only broken by the carrying handle, the manufacturer’s logo on the front and the connection panel on the back, which is hidden behind a thick rubber flap.

On the bottom of the Stormbox Pro, you can see the plastic case, which has a rubber ring embedded in it as a stand. On the upper side, on the other hand, are the control elements: The speaker has a total of six buttons. In addition to a power button and two volume buttons, there is also a multifunction button and a push button to activate Bluetooth and the bass boost.

There is nothing to criticize about the build quality of the speakers. The outer skin is visually and haptically flawless; the fabric, the plastic and the rubber on the carrying handle are free of conspicuousness.

Operation, battery life & range

The operation of the Stormbox Pro is simple and hardly needs any explanation: all buttons do exactly what their labeling or position suggests. Other special features include a party/stereo mode, which we couldn’t test due to the lack of a second device, and a parallel connection with two playback devices.

The latter allows two devices to connect to the speaker via Bluetooth at the same time, but only one device can play sound at a time. As soon as the sound playback on one device is stopped, the other can take over. This makes it possible to switch smoothly between two smartphones at a party, for example, without having to awkwardly reconnect the device.

In terms of battery life, the Stormbox Pro achieved a commendable 30 hours or so with XBass enabled and the room volume turned up slightly. A correspondingly shorter playback time is to be expected at an even higher volume, if the neighbors are also to get something out of the music. Nevertheless, the speakers should be suitable for the usual party use in any case.

The range is also very good: indoors, it is still possible to use the speakers even if the playback device is in the neighboring room, and outdoors, the range is unproblematic anyway. Without intervening objects, we reached about 30 meters here in tests before the first dropouts occurred.

Sound quality

In terms of playback quality, the Stormbox Pro can convince us. The played music doesn’t exhibit any noise, is rich in detail and pleasingly tuned. Compared to two separate speakers in a stereo triangle, the immersion of a single speaker obviously can’t keep up, but in view of the concentrated sound reproduction that all portable speakers offer, we find the Stormbox Pro very successful.

In our eyes, the Stormbox Pro is well suited for the intended use for central (room) sound reinforcement. It radiates quite evenly in all directions and produces a warm sound. With XBass activated, this is also complemented by a surprisingly good party bass, which complements the music downwards and sets the mood.

With its features, the Stormbox Pro should also be suitable as a replacement for classic speakers, if you disregard the resulting load on the battery. As always, however, it never hurts to try them out, especially since our subjective impression is that the speakers do not have the most neutral tuning.

Conclusion

With the Stormbox Pro, Tribit offers a successful product for currently Price not available * [test time: 95 € ]. The workmanship as well as the operation of the portable Bluetooth speaker is well implemented, the battery life should be more than sufficient for all areas of application, and the Stormbox Pro also delivers a coherent picture in terms of sound quality.

With XBass enabled, the speakers deliver a sound with decent bass, and the playback is also rich in detail and free of noise. If you want to use your device for sound reinforcement at small parties, for example, or as a short-term replacement for floor-standing speakers, the Stormbox Pro is a good choice. In the latter case, however, it should be remembered that the speakers do not have an analog connection, but can only be connected via Bluetooth.
