Ultenic D5s Pro robot vacuum cleaner in test

Convenience is known to win. To help us a bit around the house, we can get ourselves one or two helpers. Among them are vacuum cleaning robots, so read the review of the Ultenic D5s Pro here now. Well known is probably Roborock, but these have their price. For around 200 euros, you get a smart robot with the D5s Pro, which can even wipe. We can say in advance that, of course, trade-offs have to be made.

Scope of delivery

In the large package we basically find a kit for the D5s Pro. Well packed, we find the two containers (for dust and water), a total of four side brushes, two wipes, and various dust filters. Of course, we also find the charging station including the power adapter there. To control the robot vacuum cleaner remotely, a remote control is also included. Of course, we must not forget the instruction manual.

So, it is immediately noticeable that for our desired mode we need to change the container. For mopping, the water tank must be used, and for normal vacuuming, the dust container.

Design and finish

Visually, the Ultenic D5s Pro is rather unobtrusive. Completely kept in black, we only find a shiny circle in the center of the robot vacuum cleaner. Of course, we also find the manufacturer’s lettering on the front. With a diameter of 32 cm, the Ultenic D5s Pro is in the midfield and has a height of 7.29 cm. Chairs could already cause problems with this diameter, but the vacuum cleaner should be able to drive under a bed without any problems.

We didn’t expect too high-quality materials, but are definitely surprised at this price. Although the case of the D5s Pro is completely made of plastic except for a circle in the middle, everything is well-made. The robot vacuum feels even more valuable due to its weight of almost 8 kg. The circle on the top is made of aluminum and brushed for a better look. Otherwise, there is nothing out of the ordinary about the appearance of the D5s Pro.

On the upper side we still find two buttons. Underneath both of them is an LED that shines decently bright. On the one hand, the robot vacuum is switched on via it, and on the other hand, it can be sent for charging. Of course, this is all for emergencies only. Otherwise, the D5s Pro can be operated via remote control, app or voice control.

Perhaps a knockout criterion for some: the robot vacuum can either vacuum or mop. Yes, when wiping (with the appropriate container), there is also some vacuuming, but with little suction power. The dust container is also not really big in this case.

Equally important in this case is the purchase of new brushes, filters, etc. According to the manufacturer, the various attachments need to be replaced at regular intervals. To match this, Ultenic offers a complete set for 25.99 euros. A fair price, if one is to exchange the parts usually after 4 months.

Suction and wiping performance

At 2500 pa, the Ultenic D5s Pro has the same suction power on paper as a Roborock S7, for example. Of course, there are different modes where the performance varies. For our test, we will assume the “full program”, in which suction is performed at full power.

For testing, we had four subfloors in our nearly 90 m² apartment – carpet, laminate, tile and vinyl. We spread sand, coffee beans and some leaves on the different surfaces. The robot vacuum had no problems cleaning everything to a satisfactory degree. Only the coffee beans caused the D5s Pro a few problems. If the “dirt” was approached from too acute an angle, the brushes simply shot it through the area.

As a dog owner, it was surprising to see how well the roller got the hair out of the carpet. Of course, the roller must then always be cleaned in a timely manner, otherwise the result will not be the same on the next cleaning run.

How well does the navigation work? Ultenic doesn’t reveal much about the sensor technology used. On the whole, however, we can say that the D5s Pro does its job well. If a few meters have been covered and one or the other wall has been hit, the vacuum robot makes it to the wall briefly and then turns around.

Unfortunately, the apartment is not mapped, there is only an overview of where the robot vacuum has already been during each cleaning cycle. However, after the cleaning is completed, the map is gone again. However, we are not told how exactly the suction robot works. Thus, we can only make assumptions.

When it comes to mopping, the Ultenic D5s Pro also cuts a decent figure. The vacuum cleaner cannot tell on which surface it is moving. However, the amount of water used is not too high and not everything is under water. Only on tiles could it be a bit more to achieve a better result.

Ultenic states a working time of 2 hours when the battery is fully charged, but that will only apply if you do not use the “Automatic cleaning process” or do not turn on the D5s Pro via the button. Then the robot sucks namely with full power – we come to a time of about 1 hour.

Setup, app and mapping

The setup is done quickly. Once placed on the dock, and briefly charged, the D5s Pro can be used directly. Sounds simple? It is. But the app usage is more interesting. For iOS and Android users, the app is available.

One criticism directly about the app. To use it, an account with Ultenic is required. Without it, we cannot use the app. After logging in, we see instructions on how to connect the D5s Pro to the app. Within 4 minutes, we were done and ready to go.

Basically, though, we can’t do much more via the app than we can with the remote, for example. We can view a “map” of the current cleaning process. For this, we can see the current battery level, the past duration and the area that has already been worked through.

Besides these functions, however, the Ultenic app offers additional features. For example, a cleaning schedule can be created for when and with which function the D5s Pro should get going. While very rudimentary, suction processes can still be started automatically.

To keep track of all parts, Ultenic also provides an overview of when the filter needs to be changed, for example. Or just when other parts of the vacuum robot should be replaced.

Conclusion

A real hybrid vacuum robot is the Ultenic D5s Pro definitely not. Depending on the bin, it offers either good suction or adequate mopping performance. Moreover, both containers are designed for up to three cleaning cycles. Nevertheless, it is advisable to clean the dust container after each time for the best result.

The robot vacuum in general also makes a good impression. The quality is right, and the brushes as well as the containers give a good picture. The attachments should also easily last the manufacturer’s specified usage period. In addition, a package with the parts does not cost the earth.

The app itself is basically superfluous. Everything from the app can also be controlled via the remote control. However, it is useful for two things. It shows you when rollers and filters need to be replaced. And you need it for voice control (or at least an account with Ultenic).

The Ultenic D5s Pro is priced in the lower range, but still promises great features. And the robot vacuum does just that. The suction performance is good for the price level, and the wiping is a small bonus. Mapping in the app would certainly still be a big plus, but for around 200 euros, the overall package is good.
