UWANT D100 in test: Flat, inexpensive – but also good?

Mop vacuum cleaners are increasingly establishing themselves as an alternative to conventional cleaning with a vacuum cleaner and mop. The appliances promise an efficient 2-in-1 solution, where you don’t have to swing the vacuum cleaner and then the mop. While the market leaders Tineco and Dreame set the tone with premium models between 400 and 600 euros, smaller manufacturers are positioning themselves with cheaper alternatives. The Chinese supplier UWANT is entering this competitive segment with the D100 for 320 euros and promises features that even significantly more expensive competitors do not offer. The device has a 180-degree folding function, a push-in charging station and electrolytic water treatment. Our test clarifies whether these features are convincing in practice and where compromises may have been made in favor of the price.

Unpacking and assembly

The scope of delivery of the UWANT D100 is limited to the essentials: In addition to the main appliance, the box contains the two-part charging station, a cleaning brush for the suction tube, 500 ml of cleaning agent and the operating instructions. Commissioning is pleasantly uncomplicated and only requires two tool-free assembly steps.

The handle can first be easily inserted into the main unit – a process that takes just a few seconds. The charging station is then assembled by placing the base of the station on the charging unit. The modular design of the station is a positive feature: The removable base can be easily rinsed under running water for cleaning. The same applies to the water tank, which can also be removed and filled without tools – well thought-out details that make maintenance considerably easier.

Design and workmanship of the UWANT D100: unusually compact in the test

With a height of 13.5 cm, the UWANT D100 is significantly more compact than conventional vacuum cleaners. The highlight: The handle folds forward 180 degrees, making the appliance completely flat.

This solves an annoying problem – you can finally get under low furniture where dust and hair would otherwise collect undisturbed. Things get interesting from a ground clearance of around 13 cm: low sofas, sideboards or the area under radiators. The folding function works smoothly and the mechanism makes a stable impression even after several days of testing.

Flat under furniture: The UWANT D100 can be lowered completely by 180 degrees – ideal for hard-to-reach places

There are no surprises in terms of workmanship – solid quality without any premium claims. The plastic housing is neatly finished and the gap dimensions are correct. At 4.29 kg, the D100 is pleasantly easy to handle. The design? Functional in white and black, nothing spectacular, but timeless. Practical: The transparent water tanks show the fill level at a glance.

Innovative charging station: Well thought out, but a little bumpy

UWANT takes a different approach with the charging station: instead of lifting the device and inserting it precisely, the D100 simply slides into the station from the front. This push-in function is much more convenient than the usual lift-and-drop solutions.

The advantage is evident in everyday use – no fiddly positioning, just drive in and you’re done. The station is stable and does not slip, which can happen with other models. At first, retraction doesn’t always work perfectly – you first have to find the right angle and speed. But once you get the hang of it, it’s a sensible solution.

Cleaning performance: three modes for different applications

The UWANT D100 offers three cleaning modes that differ significantly in the way they work:

  1. Smart mode is the default setting and automatically adjusts the power to the level of dirt detected. It works economically and quietly with light soiling; if the system detects heavier dirt, it automatically increases the suction power and water supply. This works well in practice, saves battery power and is usually sufficient for everyday use.
  2. Turbo mode constantly delivers the full power of 17,000 Pa – ideal for stubborn dirt, larger cleaning jobs or if you simply want to play it safe. Power consumption increases noticeably, but the cleaning effect is maximum.
  3. Dry mode works without releasing water and is suitable for carpet edges, doormats or soaking up spilled liquids. Curiously, the appliance still sprays water for the first 5 seconds – to protect the HEPA filter, according to the manufacturer.

In practice, the cleaning performance is impressive across the board: everyday dirt such as dust, crumbs and hair are reliably picked up. Liquid stains are also no problem – from spilled coffee to muddy paw prints. Dried-on stains sometimes require a second pass, but this is normal for vacuum cleaners. The automatic dirt detection reacts noticeably: if coffee is spilt, you can clearly see how the system ramps up the power.

Edge cleaning is positive, but at around 5-6 mm from the wall, it falls short of the advertised 2-4 mm. Nevertheless, this is significantly better than many competitors, which often require a distance of 8-12 mm. This advantage is noticeable on skirting boards and in corners.

The 180-degree function in a practical test

The folding function of the D100 shows its practical advantages in the test. While conventional vacuum cleaners reach their limits at a height of 20-25 cm, the UWANT reaches much lower areas.

The difference is noticeable in everyday use: As already mentioned, areas with a floor clearance of around 13 cm or more become accessible – under sideboards, low kitchen units or radiators, which remain out of reach for other vacuum cleaners. Under our test sofa with a floor clearance of 12 cm, at least the front area of the brush head can still pick up dirt, even if the rear areas remain inaccessible.

The brush head still reaches the front area under the 12 cm high sofa

Of course, the function still has its limits – even the D100 is not suitable for extremely low furniture. For most applications, however, the 180-degree function is a significant improvement over conventional vacuum cleaners and justifies the interest in this special feature.

Battery life in the test of the UWANT D100: Solid runtime, slow charging

The battery runtime of the UWANT D100 is within the industry standard: 30 minutes in Smart mode is sufficient for homes up to around 60 square meters. In Turbo mode, the runtime drops to 18 minutes – sufficient for targeted cleaning tasks, but not enough for larger areas. The manufacturer’s specifications match the practical values.

The charging time of 6 hours is problematic. While comparable models are usually ready for use again after 4 hours, the D100 takes considerably longer. This restricts spontaneous use and requires consistent charging after each use. When the battery is empty, this means longer waiting times – a noticeable disadvantage in everyday use that overshadows the otherwise solid performance of the device.

Self-cleaning: Good, but the beeping is not at all good

After each use, a 3-minute rinse cycle starts automatically, followed by 60 minutes of hot air drying at 60°C. The first time the machine is used, it emits an intense odor – a mixture of chemicals and burnt plastic, which dissipates after a few cycles.

The cleaning system works reliably and largely removes dirt residues and hair from the roller. The subsequent drying prevents musty odors – a clear advantage over cheaper models without this function.

However, the constant beeping during the drying phase is annoying: a signal that cannot be switched off sounds every 60 seconds – for a whole hour. This is really annoying, because every time you think the appliance is finished or has a problem, only to find that it continues to beep for another 50 minutes. This can be really annoying when used in the evening. A mute option would be highly desirable here.

Manual maintenance is limited to rinsing the water tanks and occasional filter cleaning. The tanks are easy to remove, no complicated small parts.

Operation: Basically simple, but with potential for improvement

Operating the UWANT D100 is basically straightforward. There are two buttons on the handle – one for switching on and off, one for mode selection – while there are additional control buttons on the main unit for self-cleaning and voice output. The clear display clearly shows all important information.

During operation, the motor supports the movement with a noticeable forward thrust, which initially seems helpful. However, this becomes exhausting during longer cleaning jobs, as you have to constantly work against the tractive force – much more tiring than with devices with more neutral driving behavior. In addition, as is usual in the industry, cleaning only works in the forward direction. Dirt tends to be smeared backwards, although this effect is somewhat more pronounced with the D100 than with some of its competitors.

Although the volume of the voice output can be adjusted, it is not possible to mute it completely.

Electrolytic water treatment: Nice-to-have

The integrated electrolysis unit is a special feature. It produces disinfectant substances from normal tap water and, according to the manufacturer, should eliminate 99.99% of all bacteria. The process runs automatically and is maintenance-free.

The advertised disinfection effect cannot be verified in a product test – this would require laboratory analyses. However, electrolytic water treatment is a useful additional feature, especially for cleaning in hygienically sensitive areas such as the kitchen or around pet bowls. Whether it justifies the purchase price is for everyone to decide.

Value for money: This is the clear advantage of the UWANT D100

At 320 euros RRP, the D100 is clearly positioned below premium competitors such as Tineco, Dreame or Dyson. For this price, you get a functional device with a unique selling point that is practically unique on the market. This is the greatest strength of the UWANT D100 – the price-performance ratio is right.

The basic functions work reliably and the 180-degree folding function is unrivaled in this price range. This shows that Chinese manufacturers can develop innovative solutions without going beyond the price range.

Convenience features and battery management have to be compromised – the long charging time and annoying beeping during drying spoil the overall impression. For price-conscious buyers who specifically need the flat design, it still remains a fair deal.

Alternative: Limited selection

The selection of vacuum cleaners with a flat design is still limited. The Osotek Horizon H200 is available as a direct alternative, competing at a similar price and around 10 cm in height. Premium manufacturers have now also followed suit: Tineco offers its own 180-degree solutions with the Floor One Stretch S6 and Dreame with the H15 Pro – albeit in significantly higher price ranges. UWANT has indeed recognized a gap in the market here and closed it early.

Conclusion: Solid device with a clear price advantage

The UWANT D100 is aimed at a clearly defined target group: users with low furniture who finally want to clean these areas too. The 180-degree folding function is technically sound and works in practice, even if it cannot meet all expectations.

The cleaning performance is at a decent level and the edge cleaning is better than that of many competitors. However, the strongest argument remains the price: for 320 euros, you get a functional appliance with a practically unique feature in this price range.

The 6-hour charging time is clearly too long and the constant beeping during drying is annoying. The appliance is less suitable for large households due to the limited battery life.

The bottom line is that you get a specialized appliance that does its main job. The compromises are manageable at this price – provided you can actually make use of the specific advantage of the flat design.
