VEVOR Y486 Test: Design and workmanship

The VEVOR label printer has a compact and modern design that fits seamlessly into a variety of working environments. With a weight of just 1.25 kg and dimensions of 200 x 79 x 83 mm, it is extremely handy and can even be easily carried in a rucksack. VEVOR provided us with the model in grey for our test.

Alternatively, the label printer is also available in a white housing. The robust plastic construction conveys durability and stability. The compact printer from VEVOR also scores points with its well thought-out design. The controls are intuitively positioned. The “feeder button”, which can be used to feed labels manually, is located on the top.

A status LED is located directly above it. The meaning of the color and blinking rhythm can be found on the practical sticker right next to it. The paper feed is located on the back. This is designed to accommodate different label sizes. You will also find the USB input, mains connection and the on/off toggle switch here.

The label output is located at the front, from which the finished printed labels emerge. A look at the underside reveals four rubber feet. These are designed to prevent the label printer from slipping during operation. A button on the right-hand side allows you to lift the lid of the printer.

This allows access to the inner workings. This is where the thermal print head, the guide rail for the labels and a rubberized roller, which pulls the labels through the printer at lightning speed, are located. Overall, the device impresses with its well thought-out design and high-quality workmanship. However, we particularly like the compact design.

VEVOR Y486 test: Setup and commissioning

Installation of the VEVOR label printer is user-friendly. After connecting it to the computer using the USB cable supplied, simply install the appropriate driver. I used my iMac for the test. As the printer is suitable for MacOS and WindowsOS, this was no problem. Simply download the driver from the manufacturer’s download center. Once you have installed the driver, you can add the label printer as a new device in the system settings.

If you want to use the VEVOR wirelessly, the model we tested is not suitable for you. After all, it does not have a Bluetooth interface that would enable a connection to the “FlashLabel” app. This means that print jobs are also possible via smartphone. If this is important to you, you should pay close attention to the model designation. In contrast to the “VEVOR Y486” version we tested, the “VEVOR Y486BT” has Bluetooth.

The included instructions guide you step by step through the installation process, so that even less tech-savvy users should have no difficulties. It is important that you adjust the format in your print settings. Otherwise, annoying misprints will occur. Once you have made the appropriate adjustments, the VEVOR is available for your print jobs just like a conventional printer.

VEVOR Y486 test: ease of use

In everyday use, the VEVOR label printer proves to be a reliable and efficient device. The thermal printing technology not only ensures lightning-fast printing, allowing you to print numerous labels in a row within a few seconds. You also don’t need ink or toner. This not only saves you money, but also reduces maintenance costs.

With a print speed of up to 150 mm per second, up to 3600 labels can be printed per hour, which is particularly advantageous for companies with high shipping volumes. The ability to print labels in various sizes from 40 mm to 110 mm wide offers flexibility for different applications, whether in the office, in shipping or in the private sector.

VEVOR Y486 test: Practical test

Various label formats were tried out in the practical test, including shipping labels, barcode labels and individual designs. The print quality remained consistently high, with clear and legible printouts. Integration with various shipping platforms went smoothly, making the shipping process much easier.

The printing of individual designs, for example for personal projects or organizational purposes, also worked flawlessly. Noise levels during printing are minimal, which allows for use in quiet environments. Another plus point is the compatibility with different label types, including roll and folded labels, which increases flexibility in use.

Conclusion

The VEVOR label printer impresses with its modern thermal printing technology, which enables razor-sharp labels without the use of ink or toner. The high print quality with 203 DPI and the impressive print speed are particularly positive, making it attractive for both private and business use.

Setup is straightforward thanks to the clear instructions, so even beginners can get started quickly. The compact design, robust workmanship and compatibility with Windows and macOS ensure a high level of user-friendliness. Only the lack of a Bluetooth interface in the tested model could be a disadvantage for some users.

In the practical test, the device impressed with its reliable performance and flexible use with different label formats. The VEVOR Y486 is a cost-effective solution, especially for small businesses, online retailers and office users.
