Xiaomi Mi G9 handheld vacuum cleaner: The Chinese can clean too

The Chinese company Xiaomi is the talk of the town worldwide. Yet it is just 10 years young. Nothing compared to the lifetime of industry giants like Samsung or Apple. And yet Xiaomi is right up there with them. It produces high-end smartphones with the Mi series, but also entry-level smartphones for little money with the Poco and Redmi series. Chinese goods have long since ceased to be frowned upon in Europe as they were a few years ago.

However, as our meaningful headline reveals at the beginning, our review is not about a smartphone that can clean the floor, but about Xiaomi’s latest vacuum cleaner model, the Mi G9. It saw the light of day on February 4 and is sold exclusively on eBay by Xiaomi Global.

We took a close look at the cleaner and reveal what it can do and whether it is good for the money. In addition, there is an interesting offer up for grabs at the start of the sales phase, which we naturally don’t leave behind.

Package contents: comprehensive delivery

Xiaomi advertises each of its products as being able to offer high-quality technology for little money. In most cases, you actually don’t get the feeling that you’re looking at a cheap product, starting with the packaging. This is also the case with the Mi G9 handheld vacuum cleaner.

This is packaged in a white, average-looking box that says that there is no 29 euro vacuum cleaner inside. After opening the box, we find all components well sorted and protected – and there are not many of them. The box is correspondingly large.

Included are the following parts:

    • a main part, in which the motor sits
    • a battery
    • an extension tube
    • a turbo brush for the floor
    • a mini electric brush
    • a small 2-in-1 brush
    • a crevice nozzle
    • the storage holder along with two screws and two double stickers
    • a white power adapter
    • a manual and instruction guide

Both the packaging and the contents make a competent first impression on us. Let’s see if all the functions can also convince – from the filter, to the battery, to the properties of the brushes.

Looks: A classy eye-catcher

After connecting the extension tube to the main dust brush for the floor and the motor part, it reveals itself to us as a high-quality, classy-looking vacuum cleaner with matching red color accents. The material and device also make a high-quality impression haptically, but that doesn’t surprise us much when compared with the quality of the Mi phones, for example.

The shape of the vacuum cleaner allows for easy handling and the low weight of circa 3 kilograms supports this. In addition, both the dust container and the battery are easy to remove and reattach. Each part harmonizes perfectly with each other.

Materially, the Xiaomi Mi G9 is mainly made of high-quality plastic in matte white. Only the extension bar is made of aluminum.

The same good words can be said about the wall station, which can be attached to the wall with screws. The extra brushes can be attached to the station. Visually, this also does not attract negative attention. Much more, the Mi G9 looks less futuristic and striking on the wall than a model from Dyson thanks to the plain white. Unfortunately, the holder lacks a holding position, so the electric mini-brush will probably lose out.

Extras: Xiaomi delivers useful features

Of course, vacuuming is the main task of a vacuum cleaner, but the more modern technology advances, the more sophisticated the features that manufacturers include in their devices. Xiaomi is no exception.

Accordingly, the Mi G9 features a multiconic cyclone filter that has a filtration efficiency of 99.97 percent. A house number that will appeal to allergy sufferers in particular. Furthermore, a separation of dust and air supply ensures that the former does not clog the latter. The dust container surrounding the filter system then takes care of collecting the dirt. It can hold a total of 0.6 liters, which is a tad more than many competing products.

Anyone who vacuums a lot will quickly fill up the dust bin one way or another. However, this is not a problem with the Mi G9: the bottom flap opens with a click, allowing the entire contents to be quickly emptied over a trash can. The dust container can also be washed from time to time, but it should definitely be dry again before it is used again.

The anti-hair tangle brush represents another extra. Especially in households with members who have long hair, this is a useful invention. Neither the tube nor the brush will be clogged by the annoying horn threads.

In general, the Xiaomi Mi G9 makes a very good impression with its extras. The volume of just 68 db also puts us in a positive mood. Thus, the battery vacuum cleaner is no louder than a running faucet.

Accessories: the features of the four brushes

We had already mentioned the first feature of the turbo floor brush. Another is the flexibility between smooth floors and carpeted floors. The roller built into the brush ensures that no suction power is lost. With the extension tube, the turbo brush can also be operated perfectly from a standing position. The aluminum tube is a full 70 cm long, making it comfortable to handle even for taller people. However, all attachments can also be used without the aluminum tube, which is why we recommend the following for the

A total of four brushes are included. Of these, the mini electric brush is best for sofas and mattresses. Without damaging the fabric or cover, it sucks up mites, hair, dander. Nevertheless, the suction power penetrates deep into the fibers and does not work only superficially.

The crevice nozzle lives up to its name, getting into every crevice, corner and narrow edge. However, it is not much of a novelty, when it has been part of the basic equipment of every vacuum cleaner for many years.

Finally, there’s the 2-in-1 brush, which is especially useful for delicate surfaces like keyboards. In combination with the different suction modes, the cleaning of the editorial keyboards worked out perfectly – seemed to be urgently needed, too.

In our thorough test, all the attachments did a great job and performed their tasks as expected. We can’t complain!

Battery & Motor: The G9 has good steam under the hood

Since the Mi G9 is a cordless vacuum cleaner, we naturally also took full care of the cordless drive. A battery with seven cells of 2,500 mAh each is installed. Enough steam to let the vacuum cleaner run for 60 minutes in Eco mode. In total, the Xiaomi Mi G9 has three modes on offer. The other two are the standard mode as well as the strong mode. The latter is meant to suck up objects that are the size of a coffee bean. In return, the battery only lasts for 8 minutes in strong mode. The standard mode lasts 27 minutes.

The battery can be easily replaced, although only one battery is included in the scope of delivery. Another one can be purchased. The storage holder is also designed for charging two batteries at the same time. However, this option is also aimed more at frequent vacuum cleaners or owners of a lot of living space.

It is powered by a high-speed motor that puts 120 watts of suction power on the scale. It achieves 100,000 revolutions per minute. In our vacuum tests, the Mi G9 handheld vacuum cleaner always did an excellent job, no matter what needed to be vacuumed up. Even dog hair was reliably removed from the carpet. We were also impressed by the battery runtime in Eco mode. The average of 60 minutes surpasses one or two other big players on the vacuum cleaner market.

Price action on the release on eBay

Test completed. But before we get to the conclusion, we would like to point out Xiaomi’s sales promotion for the market launch of the Mi G9. By the way, the sale is exclusively on eBay by Xiaomi itself. The Chinese manufacturer has come up with something interesting in the process.

Normally, the vacuum cleaner is supposed to cost around 239.99 Euros. In the period from February 4 to February 10, 2021, the Xiaomi Mi G9 is already available for 170.99 euros (voucher: PHAUSHALT21). But that’s not all. If you write to the company on eBay after the purchase, you get a cashback of 5 euros. Those who store in the first two days after the sales launch will also receive an automatic soap dispenser from Xiaomi.

The icing on the cake, however, is the fact that a Xiaomi Poco X3 will be raffled off among 12 buyers of the Mi G9 during the mentioned period. Now it’s just a matter of grabbing it!

Conclusion

To put it in a nutshell: Xiaomi delivers a capable device with the Mi G9, which we only had to find fault with the wall mount. The suction power is sufficient for most everyday tasks, the battery has an acceptable runtime and the materials are well chosen and finished.

Even for the actual price of 239.99 Euros, you get decent technology in a chic guise, just as you would expect from Xiaomi. With the performance and the mentioned features, the Chinese are partly on par with devices from German companies like Philips or Bosch. At the same time, they undercut them in price. It might be that one or the other premium model is even quieter, but if a bit of noise does not bother you, you will get a decent vacuum cleaner with Xiaomi’s Mi G9.

We can definitely recommend the handheld vacuum cleaner from China for typical everyday use; especially since the value for money is absolutely okay.
