Yaber is best known in this country for its projectors, but sees itself as a broader provider of smart home technology. With its sub-brand Yaber Home, the company is now placing a stronger focus on household cleaning. The HP20 is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner that’s designed to compete with established brands at a price of under 200 euros, despite its extensive features. The box boasts some impressive specs: 180 AW of suction power, an H13 HEPA filter, and an automatic suction adjustment feature called Senseclean AI. Plus, the hand unit weighs just 1.69 kg. “Light Frame, Heavy-Duty Results” is the manufacturer’s promise. Our Yaber HP20 review will determine whether this lightweight cordless vacuum can deliver impressive performance, especially on hard floors and short-pile carpets.

Unboxing & Assembly: Click, click, done

Right out of the box, the HP20 lives up to its packaging claim. “Light Frame” is no exaggeration. Even lifting the individual parts feels lighter than with other stick vacuums. The number of accessories is also impressive. In addition to the handheld vacuum, Yaber includes the following in the box:

Assembly is almost self-explanatory. Insert the battery pack, click the tube into the handpiece, attach the floor nozzle to the other end—and you’re done. Everything snaps into place with an audible click; no tools are needed. The wall mount serves as a charging station and a storage spot for the device and the additional nozzles. We deliberately chose not to mount it on the wall during our test. For one thing, we didn’t want to drill any holes; for another, Yaber advertises the freestanding design. A practical side effect: This allowed us to immediately check whether the device actually lives up to that promise.

Convenient for households with users of different heights: The tube is a true telescoping tube. It can be adjusted to your height using the length adjustment knob. This way, both tall and short people can vacuum comfortably with the same device. Neither has to hunch over or stretch their arms.

Design & Build Quality: Lightweight Construction, with Some Compromises

And it does just that—with one caveat. With the battery inserted, the HP20 actually stands on its own, without needing a wall mount or anything to lean against. It doesn’t look particularly stable, though: it stands on its legs rather wobbly. For a quick break here and there, that’s perfectly fine. Quickly open the door, accept the package, and get back to vacuuming. But you’d better not bump into it as you walk by. For anyone who doesn’t want to or isn’t allowed to drill holes, the fact that it stands on its own is still a real selling point.

A standout feature is the round display on the handpiece. The screen is crystal clear and shows the battery level and mode in an easy-to-read format. Especially when the battery is running low, being able to see the remaining charge precisely is worth its weight in gold. This allows you to manage your remaining time effectively, rather than being caught off guard by a sudden shutdown. In this price range, we would have expected three flashing LEDs at most. Here, Yaber has delivered more than necessary.

Operation & Modes: Four Levels and a Green Light

The HP20 is controlled via two buttons on the handle: On/Off and Mode Select. There are four power levels available. Auto mode is the default and automatically adjusts suction power to the level of dirt using SenseClean AI. ECO mode reduces power for longer runtime and less noise, while Normal mode is designed for a quick daily clean. Finally, Turbo mode squeezes every last bit of power out of the motor—at the expense of the battery, but more on that in a moment.

The secret favorite feature in our test, however, was the lighting. The floor nozzle projects a green LED light onto the floor—and that makes hair, dust, and lint really easy to see. What looks like a clean floor in daylight quickly turns out to be a landscape of lint under the green glow. On the one hand, this motivates you to clean more thoroughly. On the other hand, it’s a bit of a shock to see just how much is actually lying around. Under furniture and in dark spots, the light is worth its weight in gold.

The question remains: how well does the automatic adjustment really work? Our observation: Auto mode audibly reacts to heavier dirt and boosts the power. Afterward, it scales back down to conserve battery life. It doesn’t always work lightning-fast, but it’s reliable enough. If you need more power in a specific spot, you can briefly switch to Turbo mode. In our test with the HP20, we mainly alternated between Auto for large areas and Turbo for individual problem spots.

The Yaber HP20 in the suction test: hard floors, dust, and dog hair

On hard floors, the Yaber HP20 performs really well in our test. It reliably picks up surface dirt in a single pass. Dust and lint disappear without any follow-up cleaning, and you can even track its progress directly along the green light edge. Auto mode is usually sufficient for a quick run through the kitchen and hallway. It audibly increases its speed when it encounters coarser debris and then slows down again afterward.

We were particularly impressed by the compact suction head in those hard-to-reach spots. We specifically targeted the troublesome corners that we’d neglected for a while. That’s exactly where the HP20 shows its advantage. It reaches places our mopping robot simply can’t handle—it’s too big for that. Behind doors, between furniture legs, in tight nooks—the narrow head fits everywhere. We went through the apartment with the device again and again over several days. The results on hard floors were consistently great, whether laminate, vinyl, or tile.

We were particularly curious about dog hair—the ultimate nemesis of many cordless vacuums. The results were impressive: The HP20 reliably picks up the hair without it getting tangled around the brush roll. After several test runs, the brush roll remained largely free of hair. This saves you the annoying “scissors-and-tweezers” routine you’re used to with other devices. For households with pets, that’s a major plus.

Carpet Test: Impressive on Short-Pile Carpets

We put the HP20 through a slightly tougher test on carpet. On our short-pile carpet, it had to pick up salt and crispbread crumbs—both fine and coarse debris—in a single pass. The result was good. After two to three passes, the salt and crumbs had disappeared from the pile. Dog hair proved to be a bit more stubborn on carpet than on hard floors. However, with a few additional passes, it was also removed.

What was interesting was how it worked on the carpet. Carpet fibers trap dirt more effectively than smooth floors. Fine particles like salt slip between the fibers, while hair can get caught in them. The HP20 therefore requires noticeably more power and a little more time than on hard floors.

It worked best to move the floor nozzle slowly across the carpet in slightly overlapping passes. With fast movements, some debris tended to be left behind. When used with a steady, controlled motion, the HP20 reliably picked up both fine dirt and larger crumbs. It thus delivers a decent cleaning result on short-pile carpets.

Handheld Vacuum Mode: Great in the Car and Along Edges

Beyond floor cleaning, the HP20 offers flexible additional uses. Without the telescoping wand, it becomes a compact handheld vacuum—and it does exactly what you’d expect. It performed well in the car during testing. The lightweight handheld unit makes it easy to reach between seats and the center console, into door pockets, and onto floor mats. It reliably picks up loose dust, crumbs, and hair. However, given its power, don’t expect miracles when dealing with deeply embedded dirt or heavily soiled upholstery. This requires multiple passes, and some tasks are best left to a more powerful vacuum. The two included nozzles are still well worth it. The 2-in-1 crevice tool reaches into narrow gaps and corners, while the upholstery nozzle with brush attachment handles upholstery and delicate surfaces. The attachments are also a useful addition around the house for cleaning sofa crevices, baseboards, and shelves.

A word of honesty about the weight: The 1.69 kilograms refers to the handpiece. Even with the hose and floor nozzle attached, the HP20 is still pleasantly light. However, if you’re doing a longer cleaning session throughout your entire apartment, you’ll eventually start to feel the weight in your arm. For a quick pass, that’s not an issue. But during a major cleaning session, you’ll find yourself wishing for a bit less weight on your outstretched arm toward the end.

Dust Bin & Filter Maintenance

To empty it, the dust bin’s bottom flap opens at the push of a button, allowing dust, crumbs, and hair to fall directly into the trash can. The bronze-colored button also lets you completely detach the dust bin and filter unit from the handpiece. Yaber doesn’t specify the dustbin’s capacity. In our household with a dog, we had to empty it regularly because pet hair fills the dustbin quite quickly.

According to Yaber, a fully sealed, five-stage filtration system with an H13 HEPA filter operates inside the unit. In a test conducted by SGS, it was reported to capture 99.97 percent of fine particles down to a size of 0.3 micrometers under laboratory conditions. According to the manufacturer, the test included, among other things, bacteria, allergens, and particles associated with influenza A/H1N1. However, this does not imply any medical protective effect in a normal household.

For maintenance, the dust container, filter unit, and filter can be disassembled. According to the instructions, the washable parts must then be allowed to air dry completely before being reinserted. A replacement filter is included. This is not a given in this price range and delays the need for the first replacement purchase. Yaber also recommends cleaning the brush roller regularly. Since only a few strands of hair had wrapped around the roller during testing, this was quickly taken care of.

Important to know: For dry debris only

There’s one limitation you should be aware of before buying. The HP20 is intended exclusively for dry household cleaning. It must not pick up liquids and should never be used on wet surfaces. Yaber also explicitly excludes rough surfaces such as concrete or tar—so you’ll still need to sweep the garage the old-fashioned way. This is common for cordless vacuums of this design, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. If you want to pick up spilled liquids, you’ll need a wet/dry vacuum. The HP20 is designed for normal dry household dirt.

Who is the Yaber HP20 best suited for?

Based on our Yaber HP20 review, its profile is clear. It’s particularly well-suited for smaller apartments and as a secondary device for quick cleanups. Crumbs under the dining table, dog hair in the hallway, or a quick sweep before guests arrive—it’s well-suited for these kinds of tasks. It also works well as a complement to a robotic vacuum or mop. The robot handles the open areas, while the HP20 is used in corners, along edges, on stairs, and in the car.

The HP20 really shines wherever a lightweight, quick-to-use cordless vacuum is needed. In our test, it effectively picked up crumbs, fine dirt, and pet hair on hard floors and short-pile carpets. Thanks to its light weight, it’s also easy to carry around the apartment and use flexibly. Whether it’s sufficient as your sole vacuum or serves as a complement to an existing appliance depends primarily on your living space, floor coverings, and personal cleaning habits.

Conclusion of the Yaber HP20 Review: A Practical Quick-Cleaner for in-between cleanups

We were more impressed with the Yaber HP20 in our test than we expected. On hard floors, it reliably picked up fine dust, crumbs, and dog hair. It also handled salt and coarser dirt well on short-pile carpets, though a few extra passes were needed for hair. Another positive aspect was that very few hairs got tangled around the brush roll during the test.

Its impressive features include the sharp, easy-to-read display and the green LED light, which clearly highlights dust and lint on hard floors. The freestanding design is also practical: The HP20 can be set down briefly while vacuuming without having to be leaned against a wall or placed in a holder. As a compact handheld vacuum for the car, it also performed well with the two included nozzles.

The battery life measured during the test ranged from about 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the power setting and usage. During the test, the vacuum was turned on and off multiple times, as is often the case during quick cleaning sessions in between. In our 50-square-meter apartment, this was enough for a thorough cleaning session, though there wasn’t much battery life left over.

After the test, Yaber informed us that our unit came from an early production batch and that the battery life had been optimized in later models. Frequent switching on and off can also shorten the runtime. Since we didn’t have a current production model on hand for a direct comparison, we can’t assess how significant the difference is in practice. The charging time for our test unit was about four to five hours.

The lightweight design makes the HP20 pleasantly easy to handle, but it feels less substantial than heavier cordless vacuums. The build quality itself made a solid impression during testing.
