Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk Test – Compact, simple and quickly assembled

Inter-Tech Elektronik Handels GmbH is a company based in Germany and was founded in 1996. Since then, the main focus has been on the Europe-wide distribution of OEM and retail hardware for PC systems. Originally, the portfolio mainly included PC cases and power supply units. However, this has since been expanded to include numerous divisions such as fans, peripherals, hard disk enclosures and adapters. In August 2024, Inter-Tech once again expanded its portfolio in the area of CPU coolers. One of the new products is the Inter-Tech 4P90 air cooler, which we are testing today.

The Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk is a compact tower cooler with a 92 mm fan, four copper heatpipes with heatpipe direct touch and a simple mounting system with high socket compatibility. The Inter-Tech 4P90 currently starts at € 23.42 *.

Note: The Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk was tested in the bulk version, which is usually intended for system integrators. This means that the CPU cooler is delivered in unprinted packaging and without assembly information.

Packaging & scope of delivery

As already mentioned at the beginning, the Inter-Tech 4P90 is only available in a bulk version with neutral packaging. The box is made of brown cardboard and only has a small label with the product name of the CPU cooler. Inside, protected by foam, we find the heat sink with pre-installed fan as well as all mounting materials and a bag of thermal paste. No assembly instructions were included with the bulk version.

Design & processing

The heatsink of the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk consists of 36 aluminum fins, which have been painted black to improve the appearance. The same applies to the mounting frame and the four 6 mm heatpipes. Otherwise, it is a very simple heatsink without a cover plate, ARGB lighting or other special features.

The fan also remains extremely unspectacular in terms of function and appearance. It consists of a black fan frame and a black rotor blade with seven blades. Inter-Tech specifies a speed range of 800 to 2000 revolutions per minute and the connection is made via a 4-pin PWM connector. There are no rubberized corners and it is attached to the heat sink using simple but black-painted metal clips.

As a complete package, the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk weighs 345 grams and measures 135 x 97 x 73 mm (H x W x D). This corresponds to the typical values for a tower cooler with a 92 mm fan. In terms of the general workmanship, we could not find any fault with our test specimen. The paintwork was done properly and there were no dents, scratches or bent fins. The look and feel of the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk are of course not comparable with more expensive CPU coolers due to the price range.

Finally, a small comparison of the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk and 4P90 Pro Bulk. Contrary to the data sheet, the “Pro” version has different dimensions and is slightly smaller. Inter-Tech should revise its website here.

Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk Test: Assembly

For the performance test of the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk, a test system is used which is mounted on a benchtable. This allows us to rule out factors such as heat build-up in the case. The test system consists of the following components.

Mounting the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk on an AMD system couldn’t be easier. The manufacturer relies on the pre-installed AMD retention module for mounting. After applying the thermal paste, the heat sink is placed on the CPU and both brackets are hooked onto the lugs of the retention module with a little effort. That’s all there is to it.

For mounting on the supported Intel sockets, a retaining frame must first be placed on the board. The frame is locked in place using simple push pins. Subsequently, the procedure is virtually identical to AMD mounting, as the frame has equivalent mounting hooks. However, the frame is only attached using plastic lugs, which could make the frame less stable than if it were screwed on.

Installation couldn’t be easier than with the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk and even the fan doesn’t have to be removed. But it shouldn’t be, as no assembly instructions are included in the scope of delivery. However, the background to this is probably that the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk is primarily aimed at system integrators who manufacture “off-the-shelf PCs” and always install an identical cooler. The employees are therefore trained once in the assembly, which makes it unnecessary to include instructions. The simple assembly also saves a lot of time and therefore increases the margin.

Cooling capacity and volume

As already shown in the previous chapter, we use an AM4 system based on the Ryzen 5 1400 and the ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-Plus as test hardware. The Ryzen runs overclocked to 3.8 GHz at 1.175 V CPU voltage. To heat up the processor, it was loaded with Prime95 (Small FFTs) for 30 minutes. We then read out the temperature of the CPU with the CPUID hardware monitor. The room temperature was always around 20 °C during the measurements.

As can be seen in the table and the diagram, the CPU of our test system reaches a maximum of 63.0 °C (minimum speed), 59.3 °C (at 50% PWM fan speed) and 54.6 °C (at 100% PWM fan speed) under full load. This puts the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk at the bottom of the test field, but well ahead of the AMD boxed cooler. This is probably also the main purpose of this CPU cooler, namely as a good replacement for a boxed cooler.

Despite a maximum speed of 2000 revolutions per minute, the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk remains relatively inconspicuous in terms of volume, but of course not inaudible. If the fan is set to below 1500 rpm, it can hardly be heard in a normal system.

Conclusion of the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk test

The Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk is a very simple but effective tower cooler, which is particularly suitable for compact systems and comes in a completely black design. So you don’t have to accept a deterioration in appearance. Finally, we see the high compatibility and the quick and easy installation as positive features of the 4P90 Bulk.

On the negative side, we noticed the lack of installation instructions, which are never included with a bulk version. In addition, the mounting frame and the mounting material for the Intel sockets are only made of plastic, which could cast doubt on their durability.

So who is the Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk suitable for? With the cooling performance shown, it is a worthy replacement for the boxed cooler, especially in compact systems with little space, and is quieter and cools the CPU better in any case. In comparison, however, the estimated price of € 23.42 * is too high. If there is enough space in the case, the jump to a higher-performance tower cooler with a 120 mm fan is only a few euros away. You should also be aware that the product does not come with assembly instructions.

The Inter-Tech 4P90 Bulk is a compact and simply stylish tower cooler with a black design, decent cooling performance and a simple mounting system. However, the bulk version comes without mounting instructions and the Intel mounting material is made entirely of plastic.
