Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan Test – Large CPU Cooler with Dual Ventilation

The Endorfy brand is a PC hardware manufacturer that was founded in Warsaw, Poland in 2007 and was formerly known as SilentiumPC. The company’s main focus in the development of their products is on the most affordable, yet well-equipped components with a solid build quality. The focus is mainly on cases and cooling products such as CPU coolers, fans and AiO water cooling systems. In December 2021, the manufacturer has introduced a new revision of the CPU cooler series “Fortis”. The new cooler has been christened Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan and we will put it to the test today.

The Fortis 5 is supposed to convince with six millimeter heatpipes, a high cooling performance at a low noise level as well as a high RAM compatibility due to its asymmetrical design. It also comes in three different flavors. Plain with one or two black fans as well as in a variant with RGB fan and lid. The Fortis 5 Dual Fan we tested is priced at Price not available *.

Packaging & Scope of delivery

Visually, Endorfy adds some color to the Fortis 5. The cardboard packaging is printed in black, white and blue. Also on the box is a product picture of the cooler and all relevant technical data about the Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan.

Opening the lid of the box reveals the mounting accessories and installation instructions. The mounting accessories include four fan clips, a tube of thermal paste and all mounting materials for all common sockets including metal backplate. Separated by cardboard as well as foam, the heatsink and the individually packaged fans can then be seen. At the bottom of the box there is also another mat made of styrofoam.

Design & Workmanship

The single cooling tower on the Fortis 5 consists of a total of 47 aluminum fins and is quite large and massive even without the fans. The fins were not painted/anodized, but the ends of the heatpipes are covered by a black cap made of plastic. The manufacturer’s logo was also punched into this cap. The CPU heat is transferred to the fins via six 6mm copper heatpipes, which are nickel-plated for a better look and rest directly on the CPU’s heatspreader (heatpipe direct touch).

The included Fluctus 140 OS and Fluctus L120 PWM fans are all black, supporting the sleek look of the CPU cooler. The Fluctus 140 OS has a frame width of 140 millimeters with 120-mm holes and features nine fan blades that are serrated on one side. In addition, the manufacturer has placed decoupling rings on all eight corners. A fluid dynamic bearing is used as the fan bearing.

The listed features also apply to the Fluctus L120 PWM, only this one has a frame width of 120 millimeters. Both fans spin between 0 and 1400 rpm (zero fan mode) and connect to the motherboard via a 4-pin PWM connector. The Fluctus 140 OS also features a Y-switch.

Fully assembled, the Fortis 5 Dual weighs in at a decent 1237 grams, making it barely lighter than a Noctua NH-D15, for example. The general workmanship of the heatsink and fans is on a very high level. There were no scratches or bent fins and the base of the socket was also properly machined and is very smooth.

Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan Review: assembly

For the review, we are using a test system on a benchtable. This allows us to rule out factors such as heat buildup in the case. The test system consists of the following components.

For AMD systems, mounting the Fortis 5 turns out to be quite simple. After removing the retaining brackets on the front, it was possible to prepare in the backplate of the AMD retention module. For this, a total of four threaded spacers had to be screwed into the backplate on the front. The silver metal retention bracket is then placed on these spacers.

The retaining bracket is then secured with four screws to hold it firmly to the motherboard. After applying the thermal paste to the bottom of the CPU cooler, the Fortis 5 could be placed on the CPU. Then, the screw connection between the retaining bracket on the cooler and the retaining frame on the motherboard is done via two spring-loaded screws.

The mounting system is thoughtfully designed and allows for a frustration-free installation of the CPU cooler. The heatsink can also be oriented independently of the socket in 90° increments. Lastly, the Fortis 5 is designed so that even with the two fans, there should be no problems with VRM coolers or tall RAM heatspreaders.

Loudness and cooling performance

In order to heat up the processor, it was loaded with Prime95 (Maximum Heat) for 15 minutes. The temperature of the CPU was then read out using the CPUID hardware monitor. This test was performed in two different scenarios. The values were then compared with those of the AMD boxed cooler (Wraith Stealth) and a conventional 120 mm CPU cooler. During the measurements, the room had a temperature of 20°C.

Cooler Operating scenario RPM temperature
AMD Wraith Stealth 50% PWM 1450 rpm 99 °C
AMD Wraith Stealth 100% PWM 2650 rpm 89.8 °C
LC-Power LC-CC-120-RGB 50% PWM 950 rpm 61.1 °C
LC-Power LC-CC-120-RGB 100% PWM 1500 rpm 56.6 °C
Endorfy Fortis 5 50% PWM 730 rpm 58.9 °C
Endorfy Fortis 5 100% PWM 1300 rpm 54.5 °C
Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan 50% PWM 730 rpm 57.5 °C
Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan 100% PWM 1300 rpm 53.7 °C

Due to its bulky dimensions and quite heavy weight, it is not surprising that the SiletiumPC Fortis 5 Dual Fan leaves both the boxed and the conventional 120 mm CPU cooler behind. The temperature values achieved are excellent. Also worth noting is the lower noise level of the fans as long as they spin slower than 1000 rpm. However, since very good temperature values are achieved even at a reduced number of revolutions, this is absolutely no problem.

Overall, the investment for the second fan is somewhat questionable. About 7€ is the difference between the normal and the version with the additional Fluctus 120 fan. The achieved temperatures are hardly lower with the second fan. In return, the larger version indirectly provides a cheap and good fan, which could be placed in the rear of the case, for example.

The zero fan mode of the fans is basically practical, but not absolutely necessary in our eyes. At a minimum speed of 300 and 400 rpm, the fans are so quiet that they should not be heard from the overall system.

Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan Review Conclusion

As with previous products, Endorfy can definitely impress us again with the Fortis 5. The Fortis 5 offers very good cooling performance at a low noise level and is also very well made. Due to the well thought-out mounting system, the large heat sink can be installed quickly and easily and does not even cover the RAM banks due to its asymmetrical layout. This overall package is rounded off by two quiet and powerful fans as well as a 6-year warranty.

The only negative aspect is the fan noise at maximum speed. However, since the cooling performance is also very good at reduced speed, it should not usually be a problem then.

From our point of view, the Endorfy Fortis 5 is worth every penny and gets a buy recommendation from us. As a potential buyer, you only have to decide whether you can justify the surcharge of about €8 for the second fan. The second fan of the Dual Fan only slightly increases the cooling performance.

Endorfy delivers a very good and perfomant CPU cooler with the Fortis 5 Dual Fan, which has almost no weaknesses. However, the second fan is not really worth it in terms of cooling performance.
