AGM positions the Pad P3 Compact as proof that rugged doesn’t necessarily have to mean bulky. The result is a compact 8.68-inch outdoor tablet with IP68/IP69K certification, MIL-STD-810H testing, a 120-Hz display, a 7,200-mAh battery, and Android 16. In our review, we’ll show you what the Pad P3 Compact is truly capable of, where the MediaTek Helio G99 reaches its limits, and who would benefit most from this compact, rugged tablet.

Design, Build Quality, and Durability in Everyday Use

The positioning alone makes it clear what AGM is aiming for with the Pad P3 Compact: not the thinnest, but the most well-balanced tablet in its class. At 14.5 millimeters thick, it’s significantly thicker than what you’d expect from a typical mid-range tablet. This is a fact that AGM addresses openly rather than trying to hide it. The weight, on the other hand, is somewhat more surprising: with dimensions of approximately 232 × 146 × 14.5 millimeters, it weighs about 540 grams. By comparison, an Apple iPad mini weighs barely more than half as much. For a device that explicitly advertises “Compact” in its name, this is a figure worth keeping in mind before purchasing. This is about ruggedness, not about having an especially lightweight device. But the dimensions are compact—no question about it. AGM has long made a name for itself as a rugged outdoor brand, whether with tablets like the Pad P2 Active (review) or the H6 outdoor smartphone (our review).

The reason for the weight and case thickness lies in the certifications: IP68 stands for protection against dust and temporary submersion, while IP69K additionally ensures resistance to hot, high-pressure water, such as that used for cleaning in commercial settings. This is complemented by testing according to the military standard MIL-STD-810H. On the official product page, AGM explicitly emphasizes that the housing is “completely sealed against submersion, high-pressure water jets, and dust ingress” (agmmobile.com).

Convenient for mobile use: An adjustable carrying strap included in the package can be hooked onto designated attachment points on the case, allowing the tablet to be comfortably carried over the shoulder or on the wrist without having to be held in the hand at all times. If you prefer to use the Pad P3 Compact in a stationary setting—for example, as a camera or recipe tablet in the kitchen or workshop—you can also opt for the optional swivel metal stand, which allows for hands-free operation at flexible viewing angles.

Display: 120 Hz in a compact format—and a resolution puzzle

At 8.68 inches, the AGM Pad P3 Compact is noticeably smaller than classic 10- to 11-inch tablets and thus closer to a large smartphone than a full-fledged tablet—which is precisely the essence of the “Compact” promise in its name. The 120-Hz refresh rate is pleasantly noticeable when scrolling through lists, web pages, or e-books, and with a peak brightness of up to 600 nits, the display remains easily readable even in direct sunlight. This is a level that many tablets in this price range simply can’t match.

The actual resolution is 800 × 1,340 pixels. For prospective buyers who value crystal-clear text and photos, this is a factor to consider before making a purchase. Regardless, the high refresh rate of 120 Hz remains a real advantage that’s noticeable in everyday use.

Performance and Software Review

The Pad P3 Compact is powered by the MediaTek Helio G99, a proven mid-range platform found in numerous budget smartphones and tablets in recent years. AGM pairs the chip with 6 GB of physical RAM, which can be supplemented with an additional 6 GB of virtual RAM—allocated from the internal storage—as needed. It’s a mid-range chip that offers enough performance for navigation, document work, communication, and simple multitasking without draining the battery excessively. However, the tablet isn’t designed for demanding 3D games or video editing.

On the software side, AGM runs Android 16, giving the device a relatively up-to-date foundation at launch. The integrated Widevine L1 certification ensures that streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video can actually be used in HD rather than just SD quality—a detail that’s often missing from cheaper tablets. For a work or outdoor tablet in a practical size, this is a sensible priority.

Camera and Flashlight in Practice

The 50-megapixel main camera on the back is, for a tablet in this category, primarily a practical tool rather than a replacement for a smartphone camera. It’s mainly used for documenting and taking photos of things. You probably shouldn’t expect it to be a true replacement for a digital camera.

A nice extra is the built-in auxiliary light, which AGM specifically promotes as a camping light—and it actually gets quite bright. In practice, the light can be used both to brighten photos taken in darker rooms and simply as a small flashlight alternative when you need a little extra light in the evening in your tent or on the balcony.

Battery Life and Charging

With 7,200 mAh, the Pad P3 Compact features a battery that’s larger than average for its screen size. And it easily lasts several days of intensive use. This is particularly relevant for field workers and tradespeople who don’t have regular access to a power outlet. It charges at up to 18 watts.

Connectivity, SIM Options, and Accessories

AGM offers two variants in terms of wireless connectivity: The Global version includes 4G cellular connectivity with dual-SIM support and eSIM in addition to Wi-Fi, while the version intended for the U.S. market is shipped as a Wi-Fi-only model. For the European market, however, the Global variant with cellular support is available, which makes the Pad P3 Compact an attractive option as a mobile work device that doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi.

For example, on construction sites or in the field without a fixed internet connection. Connectivity is complemented by NFC, GPS, a compass, and USB-OTG, making the tablet suitable for contactless applications, navigation in the field, or connecting external peripherals—we tested it by connecting a USB keyboard, which was recognized immediately.

AGM Pad P3 Review: Conclusion

With the AGM Pad P3 Compact, AGM delivers a rugged tablet that is impressive in many respects for anyone looking for a weather-resistant, portable device that goes beyond traditional consumer tablets. The combination of IP68/IP69K and MIL-STD-810H certification, a generous 7,200-mAh battery, a 120-Hz display, and the compact 8.68-inch form factor proved particularly impressive in our test, especially in mobile, sometimes less-than-ideal everyday situations. On a construction site, while camping, or anywhere else where you wouldn’t quite trust a regular tablet. Practical details like the included carrying strap and the built-in camera flash round out the overall package nicely.

However, you should approach two points with realistic expectations: The name “Compact” clearly refers to the display size, not to the noticeably heavy weight of around 540 grams. You should also adjust your expectations regarding the MediaTek Helio G99 to match the price range. For its actual target audience—namely, mobile users who need a rugged tablet suitable for everyday use—the AGM Pad P3 Compact remains an interesting option based on our test, provided you’re aware of these limitations beforehand.
