POCO M7 Pro 5G test: Elegant design
- Stylish design
- successful workmanship,…
- … but cheap-looking vibration motor
With the POCO M7 Pro 5G, the manufacturer wants to conquer the mid-range once again. And has already launched a convincing design. The smartphone has a pleasantly grippy two-part back, half of which is glossy and the other half has an elegant grain.
This looks absolutely classy and high-quality, especially in the color of our test model Olive Twilight (green). At the top left is a camera island that houses the main and portrait cameras. The controls in the form of the volume rocker and power button are located on the right-hand side. However, the volume rocker in particular is a little too high to reach with one hand.
The M7 Pro weighs 190 grams and is pleasantly slim at 7.99 millimeters. Visually, the device looks great, also with its slim frame and almost symmetrical screen edges.
In contrast to the more expensive Redmi Note 14 Pro+ (our test), the POCO M7 Pro 5G only has IP64 certification and is therefore only protected against splash water. Nevertheless, the overall workmanship leaves an excellent impression. Only the vibration motor reacts somewhat harshly, which seems cheaper than expected.
120 Hz AMOLED display
- great display
- 120 Hz
- rich contrasts
One highlight of the POCO M7 Pro 5G is undoubtedly the display. The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel has a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels.
It also achieves a brightness of up to 2,100 nits, which is also unusual for this price range. This means that content is very easy to read even in direct sunlight.
POCO installs the reliable and fast fingerprint sensor in the display, which in turn is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The color and contrast reproduction is excellent. In general, there is almost nothing to complain about in terms of the display – top!
Features, software and performance
- Good system performance
- Weak graphics performance
The POCO M7 Pro 5G is based on the MediaTek Dimensity 7025 chip with eight cores and clock speeds of up to 2.5 GHz. The IMG BXM-8-256 GPU clocks at 900 MHz and has a memory bandwidth of 64 bits. POCO provides it with either 8 GB or 6 GB of RAM.
There is also up to 256 GB of system memory, which can be expanded using a microSD card. I like the dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, which thanks to Super Volume achieve a volume of 300 percent compared to the normal volume without causing too much distortion.
In practice, this should ensure convincing performance and quite good gaming performance. The performance is at a good mid-range level, but cannot keep up with the Snapdragon chips of current Redmi devices or other mid-range smartphones. Surprisingly, the chip lacks Vulkan compatibility, meaning that the 3DMark tests could not be run.
Benchmark | Result |
PCMark Work 3.0 | 10.916 points |
Geekbench 6 Multi-Core | 2,272 points |
Geekbench 6 Single-Core | 958 points |
Geekbench 6 GPU | 137 points |
Geekbench AI | 587 / 584 / 1,157 pts. |
While the CPU performs well, the GPU lags noticeably behind in my tests. The smartphone is therefore ideally equipped for everyday tasks, surfing, streaming and much more. However, it is less suitable for playing more complex titles.
Xiaomi’s well-known HyperOS based on Android 14 is used as the operating system. Google’s AI assistant Gemini is also included, along with Circle to Search and several other functions. As is typical, there is some bloatware, but this can be easily uninstalled.
Otherwise, the UI looks pleasantly tidy and clear.
POCO M7 Pro 5G: Strong battery life
- Strong battery life
- 45 watt charging speed
The POCO M7 Pro 5G comes with a 5,110 mAh battery that can be charged by cable at up to 45 watts. A power adapter and charging cable are included in the scope of delivery. As well as a protective cover, by the way.
With a full 17 hours and 47 minutes of battery life in the PCMark Work 3.0 benchmark, the POCO M7 Pro 5G is very enduring. This means that the mid-range smartphone lasts much longer than most of its competitors, including the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ and Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
Decent main camera in the POCO M7 Pro 5G
The POCO M7 Pro 5G has a 50 megapixel main camera, which is equipped with the Sony LYT-600 sensor in 1/1.95-inch format and offers an aperture of f/1.7. There is also a 2 MP depth sensor (f/2.4). The front camera has a resolution of 20 megapixels.
The image quality of the main camera is quite impressive in good lighting conditions, but quickly deteriorates the darker it gets. The selfie camera delivers decent results. Especially outdoors, the smartphone takes respectable pictures with very good contrasts, without details being oversaturated or oversharpened.
It’s a slightly different story with indoor photos. If the light is right and the focus is right, the pictures are also fine. Towards the corners, however, the whole thing becomes noticeably blurred. The quality of the selfie camera is also okay, but there is a noticeable lack of sharpness and detail.
POCO M7 Pro 5G test: Conclusion
It’s always amazing how much smartphone you can get for how little money these days. For around 200 euros, the POCO M7 Pro 5G puts together a coherent overall package and impresses with a fast and great AMOLED display, a long-lasting battery and coherent performance.
The design also looks absolutely classy and the workmanship, with the exception of the vibration motor, is absolutely top-notch. There are also good speakers, modern equipment and modern AI features.
The fact that the cameras only achieve decent results and the gaming performance is only average due to the weak GPU is absolutely forgivable in my eyes. At least if you’re not looking for a gaming monster or a camera smartphone. In the lower mid-range segment, the POCO M7 Pro 5G is absolutely top-notch and definitely worth the money.
