After we recently reviewed Logitech’s compact Master series mouse, the MX Anywhere 3, we now have the full-size MX Master 3. In addition to the typical features of the Master series, such as multi-device connectivity and Logitech Flow, Logitech offers a Darkfield sensor that allows use on almost any surface, including glass, a MagSpeed scroll wheel with SmartShift, and an additional thumb wheel for sideways scrolling. In addition, we also rely on a permanently installed battery and USB-C for charging.
We have the Logitech MX Master 3 in graphite color in front of us and clarify in the test whether it can fulfill the typically high expectations.

Scope of delivery
The Logitech MX Master 3 comes in a compact black box that advertises some of the mouse’s features. The design here is typical of the Master series. In addition to the mouse itself, there is a USB receiver, a USB-C charging cable, and a user manual in the box. As with the other Logitech mice with a permanently installed battery, the USB receiver is inside separately and cannot be stowed in the mouse.
Thus, everything that is needed is included in the scope of delivery. Further extras are not included.
Design and workmanship
The Logitech MX Master 3 is normal sized to large, so you can easily rest your palm on it. The mouse is designed for right-handed users and also flattens out a bit towards the right. The resulting slightly slanted position of the hand, which we already know from Logitech’s Ergo Trackballs, relieves the wrist a bit and makes working more comfortable in the long run. There is a wide thumb rest on the left side, the right side is slightly concave. Furthermore, the mouse is slightly textured on the sides and also on the back.
On the left side of the mouse is a metal thumbwheel. This is sufficiently wide, ribbed and easy to reach. Right next to it is the status LED. It lights up green briefly after switching on the mouse or connecting it to the PC and then goes out again. When the mouse’s battery is low, the LED lights up red and signals that a charging process will soon be necessary. There are two additional buttons below the thumbwheel, and another additional button is directly on the thumb rest, so we find a total of three freely configurable buttons on the inside next to the thumbwheel.
On the upper side of the mouse we find the MagSpeed scroll wheel, which we already know from the Logitech MX Anywhere 3. Like the thumb wheel, this is made of metal and is textured so that well-controlled and precise scrolling is possible. In addition to precise scrolling, fast scrolling without resistance and with up to 1000 lines per second is also possible thanks to the freewheel mode. Switching is done either automatically, after faster scrolling, or by pressing another button located directly behind the mouse wheel.
On the bottom of the mouse, there are larger gliding feet on all four sides. Furthermore, there is the on/off switch, a button for switching between the up to three possible devices plus an LED indicator that shows the number of the currently connected device. In the middle is the Darkfield sensor.
The USB-C port is located on the front. This allows the mouse to continue being used while charging. However, a real wired operation is still not possible because data transfer is still done via wireless or Bluetooth even with a connected cable.
Material quality and workmanship are, as usual for the Master series, very good throughout. The plastic with rubber coating feels high-quality in the hand, as do the two metal scroll wheels. The mouse’s structure is also pleasing. Thanks to this, the mouse fits perfectly in the hand and you always have full control. The weight is relatively high at 141 g, but perfectly fine for office use.
Software
As with all other mice, outside of gaming, Logitech relies on the Logitech Options software. In addition, the beta of its successor, Options+, was released a few days ago, which also supports the MX Master 3. The range of functions does not differ so far. Here, too, the keys can be swapped, additional keys can be reassigned and the pointer speed can be adjusted. Profiles for different programs also exist, so you can customize the mouse for any situation.
Furthermore, the Logitech MX Master allows you to adjust the resistance of the electromagnetic scroll wheel or set a fixed scrolling mode. For automatic switching, called SmartShift, you can also adjust how fast the mouse switches between line-by-line mode and freewheeling. The type of connection and battery level are of course also visible in the software. If the latter is low, you can also be informed about it in the Windows notification center besides the LED on the mouse.
Like all other mice in the Master series, the MX Master 3 also supports Logitech Flow. This feature allows seamless transitional work on multiple devices with the same mouse. Flow allows the cursor to be moved across the edge of the screen to the next device, and it also enables copying or moving text, images or data.
Practical test
In practical use, the size and shape of the mouse appealed to us a lot. The MX Master 3 is very ergonomically shaped and convinces with the chosen material and its light structuring, so that working remains comfortable even over longer periods of time. Even though the mouse is relatively heavy at 141 g, this did not bother us in office use. Of course, the mouse is only suitable for gaming to a limited extent, but this is also not the intended use. The sensor worked reliably and accurately at all times, even on glass or the sofa.
The many additional keys and their pressure point also left a very good impression on us. There are enough keys, they are well placed and we also found the audible click noise to be pleasant. The two scroll wheels are another highlight. As in our review of the MX Anywhere 3, the MagSpeed scroll wheel including SmartShift function convinced us and made working with larger Excel spreadsheets much easier. The automatic switching between both modes also worked flawlessly here. In addition, there is also the very practical thumb wheel for lateral scrolling, which was also very helpful when working with Excel spreadsheets, or in everyday life, e.g. when switching between browser tabs. The mouse’s range of functions is very high, and many workflows can be made easier or at least more pleasant through the many configuration options. Logitech Flow, which is also supported, also makes working with several devices much easier.
We cannot make an exact statement about the battery life, since we did not have to recharge it during the test period despite daily use, and Logitech’s software does not give an exact value. In view of this, the stated 70 days seem quite realistic to us.
The Logitech MX Master 3 can convince us in the test and proves to be a very good office mouse. The mouse offers a lot of features that you quickly learn to appreciate over time, is very well made and also offers a very good material quality.
Conclusion
Overall, the Logitech MX Master 3 proves to be an almost perfect office mouse. The mouse offers a lot of features and knows how to make everyday work more pleasant with them. Those who use multiple computers can also benefit greatly from Logitech Flow. Material quality and workmanship are also very good and don’t give reason for criticism. The sensor is rather inconspicuous but good and worked without problems on all tested surfaces. The price is, as usual for the Master series, high, but reasonable if you also need and use the features.
If you’re looking for a new office mouse and don’t want to compromise, you should definitely take a closer look at the Logitech MX Master 3.
