Gaming mice are becoming lighter and lighter and do not have to hide behind the competition despite their reduced weight. With the Burst Pro, Roccat offers a wired mouse weighing just 68 grams. Nevertheless, the mouse is packed with functions and RGB lighting. Whether the gaming mouse can convince us or not is to be clarified in our detailed test report.

Packing and scope of delivery
The Burst Pro arrives in a chic and mainly black package, sufficiently padded.
Besides the actual mouse, the following accessories are included in the scope of delivery:

Design and workmanship
Optically, the Burst Pro is kept relatively simple without the RGB lighting. It is almost completely kept in matt black. However, the sides have a pattern. There are 6 buttons in total: left and right mouse button, two side buttons, DPI switch and the mouse wheel. There are no side buttons on the right side. This may be relevant for left-handed people, for example.
On the back of the mouse you can see a writing. Only when the illumination is activated, it is noticeable that the back is partially transparent. The pattern of the pages is picked up.
The cable is made of a textile material – Roccat calls this Phantom Flex. Compared to the classic rubberized cable, this is much more flexible and appears lighter.
On the bottom side you can see two large and changeable mouse gliders. These are very smooth and can be moved easily and smoothly on a cloth mouse pad.
Roccat uses plastic as a material. The keys and the back are relatively smooth, the sides a little rougher. A rubber coating is deliberately avoided. There are no unwanted background noises to be heard during movements and clicks. The mouse is very stable. All in all, the workmanship looks high quality.
Software and lighting
Roccat’s Burst Pro can be configured using the SWARM Windows software, which can be installed quickly and without the need to register. The program is quite clearly structured and offers the possibility to configure other supported Roccat devices. Many settings can be pinned directly to the first page if required. In addition all keys can be configured, macros can be stored and specific settings can be made. For example, the DPI setting can be adjusted in steps of 50 between 50 and 16,000 DPI. Statistics are not recorded, however.
The software can also be used to fully personalize RGB lighting. There are various ready-made profiles. The color and brightness can be freely selected. If desired, the lighting can also be completely deactivated.
All settings made can be saved in a profile. These settings can then be used on another device (tested with a MacBook) without the software installed.
It is also worth mentioning that the SWARM software in the background requires almost no resources. The CPU usage is almost continuously at 0%, the RAM requirement is about 40 MB.
Practice
Inside the Burst Pro, Roccat uses an optical PixArt sensor PMW-3381, which is also called “Owl Eye” by the manufacturer. This sensor will be based on the PixArt sensor PMW-3389. Apart from the bulky names: The sensor is considered to be “Flawless”.
The buttons all have a good pressure point. No button wobbles and or seems to have changed in our test period of about 2 weeks. The mouse wheel is a bit smoother, but can be used precisely.
In practice the low weight is directly noticeable. Without a cable we actually reach the indicated weight of 68 grams. With cable it is only 104 grams in total. The weight of the cable is therefore 36 grams. Compared to a Zowie FK2 (weight of the cable 43 grams), this is a saving of over 16 percent.
In combination with the very good gliding characteristics, the mouse is very fun to use and fills up very smoothly throughout.
In various games no problems or bottlenecks could be found. The Burst Pro is extremely precise and fast.
Conclusion on Roccat Burst Pro
Roccat offers a very good gaming mouse overall with the Burst Pro. The workmanship is very good and the lighting can be personalized and looks chic. In combination with the low weight of only 68 grams, the Burst Pro stands out from the crowd. The precision is excellent, the keys feel good and the gliding characteristics are very good.
For 60 Euro (current: € 44.99 *) the gaming mouse from Roccat is an almost perfect companion, for those who don’t need too many keys and are right-handed. So in summary a recommendation!
