Scope of delivery of the Antlion ModMic Uni 2

The ModMic Uni 2 comes in a plain cardboard box that simply explains and presents the product. When you open it, you will find a number of accessories:

  • Travel bag (hardshell)
  • ModMic Uni 2 incl. fabric pop protection
  • Two additional fastening clips
  • Additional adhesive strip
  • Five cable clips

All in all, it offers all-round accessories so that you can connect the microphone to different devices without having to remove and re-glue its fastening mechanism every time.

Design and workmanship

  • Clean workmanship
  • Proven design
  • Universal use through AUX

Basically, Antlion remains true to its line with the ModMic Uni 2. A simple microphone that is magentically attached to its base, which is glued to the headphones. Overall, the workmanship is of a high standard.

Visually, it is noticeable that a different mute switch has been used on the ModMic Uni 2 than on the ModMic USB 2, for example – this is much easier to find on the Uni 2 if you are looking for it blindly.

Otherwise, not much has changed visually compared to its predecessor. The cable routing in the direction of the headphone cable is identical and the workmanship is still clean. The changes should therefore lie entirely in the sound.

The microphone can be used universally with its AUX jack connection and can therefore be used with almost any end device.

Antlion ModMic Uni 2 in practical test – microphone quality

  • Improvement compared to its predecessor
  • Slightly duller sound without equalizer
  • Overall decent sound for the scenario

Now that it’s clear that the microphone can be easily attached to the headphones and there’s nothing wrong with the design, let’s move on to the most relevant part – how does the microphone sound?

Since microphones in particular are easiest to understand by listening to them, we have created a sound check for you. Here the microphone has been recorded from Audacity without any adjustments to the sound – no equalizer, clean-up or anything else.

More Information

What you use as a comparison is relevant for the evaluation. As a headset microphone, it is perfectly usable and can keep up with good headsets. Of course, it cannot compete with a large condenser microphone in terms of size – that would also be an unfair comparison. Overall, it is a step in the right direction and can fully fulfill its purpose of turning headphones into a good headset.

Only the “noise canceling” is questionable. In theory, it is completely passive and implemented by the uni-directional microphone – without further filtering by software or similar, typing on the keyboard, for example, is quite audible, but this cannot really be described as noise canceling.

Conclusion

Overall, it can be said that the ModMic Uni 2 completely fulfills its purpose and is definitely an upgrade over its predecessor in terms of sound. If you already own headphones and want to turn them into a headset, you won’t be disappointed – your colleagues in Teamspeak, Discord and the like can hear you clearly.

The connectivity, flexibility and price also speak for themselves. Compared to the USB version, you save almost €30 here and can therefore get the headset for around €60-70 (currently: € 69.00 *). Still a proud price, considering that you can already get mid-range headsets for this price, but you don’t have to do without high-quality headphones.

However, if you need or want absolutely clear sound, you are still better off with a larger microphone on the arm or stand. Of course, this is a question of the target group. If the Mod Mic Uni 2 fits your application, you will definitely not be disappointed.
