Corsair Galleon 100 SD review: Stylish design meets outstanding workmanship

  • High-quality workmanship
  • smart integrated stream deck with many features
  • Hot-swappable

The new Corsair Galleon 100 SD presents itself as a sophisticated and extremely high-quality gaming keyboard that combines classic input devices with modern streaming hardware. Visually, Corsair remains true to its typical design language: the case looks clear, functional and high-quality without being overly playful. The keyboard comes in a dark, matte color that looks great in both gaming setups and professional work environments.

The most striking feature is the integrated stream deck module on the right, which is positioned in the place of a classic num pad (and can also reproduce this functionally). With programmable LCD buttons, two high-quality metal rotary knobs and a color display that blends harmoniously into the overall picture and does not look like an additional module that was added later.

When it comes to the choice of materials, Corsair relies on a stable construction that is designed for continuous daily use. The upper side appears robust and torsion-resistant, while the keyboard has an extremely solid weight overall, which reliably prevents it from slipping on the desk. The build quality is at the level you would expect from Corsair products in the premium segment: gaps are clean, nothing creaks or gives way under pressure.

The comfortable PBT keycaps also sit firmly on the switches and provide a consistent, high-quality typing experience. Thanks to the hot-swap functionality, not only the keycaps but also the mechanical switches can be replaced quickly and easily. The manufacturer includes a really good puller for both components in the scope of delivery.

The scope of delivery of the Corsair Galleon 100 SD

The integrated Stream Deck is of course the highlight of the new gaming keyboard. With its rectangular, 5-inch display, it is discreetly framed and stands out clearly from the actual keypad without detracting from the overall impression. The individual LCD keys – twelve in number – display content with pin-sharp clarity and are sufficiently bright to remain easy to read even in unfavorable lighting conditions. The overall impression is of a well thought-out hybrid device that is not only functional but also visually impressive.

Of course, RGB lighting that can be customized down to the smallest detail is also a must. On the Galleon 100 SD, this doesn’t just extend to the keys themselves. An illuminated ring around the two rotary knobs and a strip with the manufacturer’s logo above the F-key row can also be highlighted in color.

Corsair Galleon 100 SD with top features

  • 8,000 Hz; Flash-Tap
  • excellent switches
  • Complete Stream Deck integration

The features of the Corsair Galleon 100 SD clearly set it apart from classic mechanical keyboards. The centerpiece is the integrated Stream Deck module, which was implemented in cooperation with Elgato. This offers several freely assignable LCD keys that can be used for macros, streaming functions, scene changes, app shortcuts or system controls.

Corsair Galleon 100 SD

This takes the concept of classic macro buttons to a new level, as each button can not only be assigned individually, but can also be clearly identified visually. And not just with classic macros or commands, but – as is typical of Stream Deck – with complex commands. The range of functions is identical to the dedicated Stream Deck variants: Multi-actions, opening apps, soundboards, timers, system information, webcam recordings, control of the manufacturer’s own keylight illumination and and and… There are no limits to creativity, especially as the functionality can be extended almost infinitely thanks to a number of free plug-ins.

Corsair Galleon 100 SD

Apart from the Stream Deck, this is a fully-fledged and extremely high-quality mechanical gaming keyboard that comes with state-of-the-art features. Corsair relies on high-quality mechanical switches which, depending on the version, offer a precise, direct typing feel and are suitable for both gaming and productive work.

The clicky CORSAIR MLX Pulse switches, which are also used in the MAKR 75, for example, are pre-lubricated and designed for 80 million actuations. They offer pleasant tactile feedback and are also impressive in terms of sound. The release force is 45g, while the release point at 2.0 mm ensures precise feedback. But if you prefer, you can also simply install your own 5-pin switches thanks to the hot-swap functionality.

To ensure that even the most demanding gamers get their money’s worth, the Galleon 100 SD supports a sampling rate of up to 8,000 Hz and comes with the familiar Flash Tap function, which registers inputs separately when two keys are triggered (e.g. A and D for punishment in shooters) and thus provides more control.

Other features include modern connection standards and a clean cable connection, which ensures a tidy workstation. The keyboard is clearly designed for users who need more than just traditional input – such as content creators, streamers or power users who frequently work with macros, shortcuts and automation. Compared to conventional keyboards, the Galleon 100 SD replaces a separate stream deck in many setups, thus saving space on the desk.

Additional comfort is provided by the pleasantly soft magnetic palm rest made of memory foam, which comfortably supports the wrist and noticeably improves ergonomics.

Software connection: Web-Hub controls!

  • Customization possible in the browser
  • iCUE and Stream Deck as companion apps
  • Extensive customization; intuitive operation

A central component of the overall concept is the software connection. The Corsair Galleon 100 SD is not only managed via Corsair iCUE, as with many of the manufacturer’s current products, customizations and firmware updates are carried out conveniently via the browser via the web hub, so you no longer need to install a dedicated companion app on your PC or notebook. Here, the Galleon 100 SD is recognized quickly and reliably, whereupon detailed adjustments can be made.

However, you will still need an app. The integrated Stream Deck module uses the familiar Elgato Stream Deck software to enable in-depth customization of the keyboard functions and LCD buttons.

Classic keyboard functions can be configured via iCUE or the Web Hub: Key assignments, macros, lighting profiles and device settings can be customized in detail and saved in profiles. The software is extensive, but offers a clear structure so that even complex configurations remain comprehensible. The customization is particularly effective when used in conjunction with other Corsair components, as lighting and profiles can be synchronized across devices.

Stream Deck integration takes place via the familiar software

The Stream Deck software considerably expands the range of functions. Each of the LCD buttons can be customized, including icons, animations and multi-step actions. Numerous applications and platforms are supported, including streaming software, communication tools and creative programs. The visual feedback on the keys provides a clear advantage over classic macro keys, as functions are clearly recognizable at all times. Although the parallel use of two software solutions requires a short period of familiarization, it proves to be logical and efficient in everyday use.

The Corsair Galleon 100 SD in a practical test

  • excellent typing feel
  • convincing ergonomics
  • excellent and versatile Stream Deck integration

The practical test shows that the Corsair Galleon 100 SD implements its concept convincingly. As a pure gaming keyboard, it delivers an extremely precise, pleasant typing feel that is completely convincing during both fast gaming sessions and longer typing sessions and offers a high degree of control. The mechanical switches respond reliably, there are no incorrect inputs and the even illumination ensures good orientation even in dark surroundings.

However, the greatest added value is seen in the interaction with the integrated Stream Deck. In everyday use, the module proves to be extremely practical, as frequently used functions are directly accessible without the need for additional hardware.

How you use the integrated module is up to you. For example, you can use it to control your media such as Spotify, make settings in Discord, display system parameters such as CPU load or GPU temperature or control your stream on Twitch and the like in detail.

The Stream Deck module also proves to be a practical addition when gaming. Various commands can be stored on it in shooters, individual spells can be activated at the touch of a button in MMORPGs and much more. The possibilities are almost unlimited and can be further refined thanks to additional plugins. Especially for users who regularly switch between gaming, streaming and productive work, this results in a significant increase in efficiency.

The integrated 5-inch display is divided into four sections, each half of which is controlled by one of the rotary controls above it: a function is activated at the touch of a button and you can switch to the other of the four sections by holding it down. Very practical and intuitive to use in practice.

Corsair Galleon 100 SD

The keyboard also leaves a positive impression in the long term. The workmanship appears durable, the software offers sufficient depth for individual customizations and the overall concept feels mature. The Corsair Galleon 100 SD is therefore less of a classic gaming keyboard and more of a versatile control center for modern PC setups. Anyone using or planning to use the range of functions of a stream deck anyway will find an elegant all-in-one solution here that convincingly combines functionality, quality and integration.

Corsair Galleon 100 SD Review: Conclusion

The Corsair Galleon 100 SD is not only an extremely exciting addition to the manufacturer’s line-up, but also an excellent gaming keyboard. The manufacturer delivers an impeccably crafted, high-quality and, above all, technically convincing keyboard that leaves nothing to be desired: 8,000 Hz sampling rate, hot-swap functionality and flash-tap not only delight gamers, but also frequent typists thanks to the excellent mechanical switches.

The real special feature, however, is the integration of the Stream Deck module, which is somewhere between Elgato’s Stream Deck (Classic) and Stream Deck+ with rotary knobs, a generous color display and 12 fully customizable buttons, and also lacks nothing in terms of functionality.

The advantages this provides for Creator, for everyday tasks as well as for gaming, should be well known. The integration is impressive across the board and offers significantly more options than the similarly positioned be quiet! Dark Mount (our test) , for example. And if you miss the number pad, simply convert the Stream Deck.

The only thing I would have liked to see is a modular design – just like be quiet! – because as a left-hander, I would have liked to see the Stream Deck module on the other side. But maybe that will come.

There’s no question about it: the price is undoubtedly steep at first glance. However, considering the excellent features and the integrated Stream Deck, I think it’s fair – after all, the standard model of the streaming controller alone costs around 140 euros.
