Corsair VOID Wireless V2 review: Discreet look with RGB

  • modern design
  • convincing workmanship
  • excellent wearing comfort

The Corsair VOID Wireless V2 has the same unusual shape as its direct predecessors. The new wireless gaming headset comes in either black or white. The angular design marks a welcome change in the uniformity of gaming and looks futuristic and modern.

However, the revised design is much simpler. Our black test model, for example, has no color accents. Only the shiny silver manufacturer’s logo stands out.

Just like the two RGB light strips on the sides. These are split in two so that all four zones can be illuminated individually if desired. Although made almost exclusively from plastic, the headset feels pleasantly robust and of high quality.

With a weight of 295 grams, the gaming headset is relatively light and is extremely comfortable to wear thanks to the generous ear pads, which are 25 mm thick. The soft fabric headband is also very soft and generous, so that the weight of the headset is distributed comfortably on the head.

Features and operation

  • Wireless and Bluetooth
  • Dolby Atmos

One highlight of the Corsair VOID Wireless V2 is undoubtedly its features. The headset offers dual connectivity and not only uses 2.4 GHz wireless technology, but also the Bluetooth 5.3 standard.

For example, you can pair the headphones with a PC or games console and your smartphone at the same time. You can switch between the two sources at the touch of a button, for example to make a quick phone call and then continue gaming. Unfortunately, both modes cannot be used and mixed simultaneously, which is not to be expected in this price range.

The VOID V2 reproduces a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. The Razer Kraken V4 (our test) reaches much higher in the treble range. However, these specifications do not yet provide any concrete conclusions about the sound.

It also offers virtual 3D spatial sound via Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio. This is realized on the PC via the Dolby Access app, on the PlayStation 5 the VOID uses Sony’s Tempest 3D audio engine for spatial sound.

Operation of the Corsair VOID Wireless V2

  • intuitive operation
  • clear app
  • many customization options

The manufacturer has adopted the operating concept of the Corsair VOID Wireless V2 directly from its predecessor and it is pleasantly intuitive. There are just two buttons on the left ear cup:

The on/off switch activates the headset and switches between Bluetooth and wireless mode at the touch of a button. The lower multifunction button triggers various actions. When listening to music, for example, you can double-tap to skip to the next song and triple-tap to skip to the previous song.

There is also a clickable volume dial on the underside, which not only regulates the volume, but also switches between different equalizer settings by holding it down. In practice, this works quickly and reliably and is confirmed by one to four beeps, which stand for the four presets.

The iCUE companion app is of course used on the PC, which enables various settings and provides information about the headset’s battery status. You can adjust the RGB lighting of all four zones individually within the app and have the choice between a number of lighting effects.

The function of the click of the volume wheel can be adjusted in the button assignments area. In addition to changing the equalizer, you can also mute the microphone or select various key and mouse commands.

Under “NVIDIA” you can activate additional NVIDIA broadcast options for the microphone, which can be used to further suppress noise and ambient noise, for example. In the equalizer, you can select and adjust the four presets or create your own EQ presets.

Battery life of the Corsair VOID Wireless V2

  • up to 70 hours runtime without RGB
  • up to 40 hours with RGB
  • 1.5 hours charging time

The Corsair VOID Wireless V2 has a decent battery life of up to 70 hours. However, this only applies to deactivated RGB lighting, but is on a par with the competition. If you deactivate the lighting, the runtime is reduced to around 40 hours, so you are still equipped for more intensive gaming sessions.

Charging is via USB-C and of course you can continue playing while charging without any problems. The headset is then fully charged again in around one and a half hours.

Audio and microphone quality

  • Rich, lively sound
  • powerful bass… but too much in the foreground
  • convincing equalizer adjustments
  • disappointing spatial audio sound

The 50 mm drivers already familiar from other headsets from the manufacturer also deliver a full and rich sound with the VOID Wireless V2. In the basic equalizer, the headset is comparatively bass-heavy and places the treble somewhat in the background. This naturally provides a lot of boom, especially in action-packed games.

However, you can counteract this very well with the various equalizer presets. With the “FPS Competition” setting, for example, important acoustic cues in shooters such as Call of Duty, The Finals or Valorant are shown to their best advantage.

The sound image is pleasantly wide and rich in detail and the spatiality is also excellent even in stereo mode. In my opinion, if you want to listen to music with the VOID V2, you should also use the FPS Competition preset, as this is where the sound is at its best. In the standard setting, the bass is noticeably in the foreground and overlaps the treble in particular, so that details are somewhat lost here.

With the right setting, however, listening to music with the Corsair VOID Wireless V2 is also really fun. The maximum volume is also at an excellent level.

What I didn’t really like, however, was the implementation of the spatial audio room sound. As the Corsair equalizer is deactivated here, the headset falls back on the standard sound, which in my opinion is too bass-heavy. Yes, the spatiality is excellent. But I simply miss the details in the treble. In addition, the maximum volume with 3D audio activated is noticeably lower than in stereo mode. To correct this, you have to go to the Dolby app to use its equalizer.

Corsair VOID Wireless V2

Nevertheless, the Corsair headset is not my first choice in the price range up to 150 euros, at least from a sound perspective. Competitors such as the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 5 Wireless (our review) or the fairly new Cherry XTRFY H3 Wireless (our review) offer a bit more sound for the money. If you have a little more money to spend, the Corsair HS80 Max (our test) also offers a more well-rounded overall package.

Microphone quality

Corsait equips the VOID Wireless V2 with an omnidirectional microphone that has a flip-to-mute function. This means that if you flip the microphone boom upwards, the mic is automatically muted. If you flip it down, the microphone picks up sound. Corsair VOID Wireless V2

Corsair VOID Wireless V2 microphone test recording:

Microphone test recording Razer Kraken V4:

The omnidirectional recording device offers a frequency response of 100 Hz to 10,000 Hz and has a sensitivity of -40db (+/- 3dB). This roughly corresponds to the quality of current competitors. However, Corsair is known for offering convincing microphone quality in its gaming headsets. Fortunately, this also applies to the VOID Wireless V2.

The recordings are pleasantly detailed and clear, the speech intelligibility is excellent and the maximum volume is also impressive, without you having to position the microphone just millimeters in front of your mouth.

Compared to the competition, the microphone also records ambient noise to a much lesser extent. If you want it even quieter, simply switch on the NVIDIA broadcast effects. You will then hear digital processing of the signal, but ambient noise and echo will be almost completely suppressed:

Corsair VOID Wireless V2 Review: Conclusion

The Corsair VOID Wireless V2 is a good wireless gaming headset with a good price-performance ratio. For around 120 euros (RRP), you get a rich sound, dual wireless connectivity, stylish RGB lighting and excellent wearing comfort.

The microphone quality and battery life are also on a par with the competition. However, the VOID V2 is not really able to set itself apart. The competition is very strong, especially in this price range.

The bass focus of the sound may not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s good that there is the option to make adjustments here using the equalizer. However, the 3D surround sound is disappointing for me, but this is hardly an issue given the convincing stereo sound image.

The Corsair VOID Wireless V2 is therefore particularly recommended for those looking for a versatile and very comfortable gaming headset for different platforms at an absolutely fair price.
