LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO Test: White giant
- All cables included in the scope of delivery
- Quick and easy to assemble
- appealing design, good workmanship
The LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO arrives at your home in a cardboard box weighing around 11 kg. Inside you will find everything you need to use it: In addition to the monitor and stand, the manufacturer includes a power supply unit, power cable, instructions and a DisplayPort cable. There are also screws for VESA mounting, which is also possible thanks to the 100 x 100 mm hole.
However, as is usual for LC-Power monitors, the stand must be screwed in place. The three screws required for this are also included in the scope of delivery, packed in a separate bag. Unfortunately, the screwdriver is not included.
Nevertheless, assembly is quickly completed: screw the stand and base together, insert into the back of the monitor and you’re ready to go.
Like its indirect predecessor, the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO also features a white color scheme and a three-sided frameless design. The housing is powder-coated and feels very high-quality. The stand is made of metal and is also very robust. Nothing should wobble here, even with strong movements.
A special feature is the RGB lighting on the back of the monitor, which is strongly reminiscent of the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 (our test) with its illuminated ring. However, the LED ring is significantly narrower.
Unfortunately, the RGB lighting cannot be customized. It shines alternately in different colors, but can also be completely deactivated if desired.
In terms of ergonomics, the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO is quite versatile. The monitor can be adjusted in height by 90 mm, tilted between -5° and 20° and rotated by 20° in both directions. A pivot function to rotate the monitor vertically is – as usual with ultra-wide displays – unfortunately not included. If you want to mount the monitor on an arm or on the wall, you can do so using a 100×100 VESA hole; the device weighs 7.4 kg without the stand.
Connections, features and operation
- Playback via HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C
- USB hub with KVM switch
The LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO also has a noticeable increase in the selection of connections. The various ports are divided into two areas, which the manufacturer neatly hides under a removable cover. Top: This holds magnetically to the monitor and can be removed quickly and easily.
The connections for image playback and power can be found on the left-hand side:
- 1x HDMI 2.0
- 1x DisplayPort 1.4
- 1x USB Type C (Video 3440 x 1440 @ 165 Hz / Data 5 Gb/s / PD 3.0 65 W)
- 1x USB Type A
- 1x 3.5 mm jack
- 1x DC
On the right-hand side, however, there is a USB and port hub with the following connections:
- 1x USB-B
- 2x USB-A 3.2
- 1x RJ45 LAN
Because: The LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO now has a practical KVM switch that allows connected peripherals to be used between several devices without having to reconnect them. This is extremely rare in this price range.
Features and operation
- 3,440 x 1,440 pixels at 165 hertz
- Matt VA panel with 350 cd/m² brightness
- good response time; little ghosting
The KVM switch is undoubtedly one of the most exciting new features of the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO. But the other features are also impressive. The monitor achieves a UWQHD resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels at a frame rate of up to 165 hertz with a matte VA panel.
According to the manufacturer, the display delivers a strong contrast ratio of 3,000:1 and is up to 350 cd/m² bright at its peak. There is also HDR10 certification, although this is more of a theoretical nature given the maximum brightness offered – I only noticed a slight difference between HDR and SDR in the practical test.
Thanks to a 1500R curvature, the monitor provides an immersive gaming experience without being too curved. The response time is 1 ms MPRT. LC-Power does not integrate loudspeakers – not a tragedy, as these are usually of below-average quality.
The LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO has also been modernized in terms of operation: Instead of somewhat awkward buttons on the underside, this is now done via a joystick that guides you precisely through the on-screen display and is easy to reach on the back.
Keyword on-screen display: This offers a variety of familiar options with which you can influence the image, colors, contrasts and much more. It is clearly laid out and thoughtfully structured.
You should also activate AMD FreeSync here, which is switched off by default. You can also activate the Overdrive mode in the game settings, which shortens the response time. The “High” option actually offers the lowest response time without causing unsightly ghosting.
Picture quality of the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO
- Good contrasts and colors
- fast response time
- good text readability
I really like the picture quality of the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO in the practical test. As is typical for VA, the monitor scores with a very good contrast ratio, which can only be surpassed by OLED displays.
This, in combination with the convincing color reproduction, ensures a vivid picture when gaming, with very good differentiation between light and dark areas. In overdrive mode, the response time is around 3 ms when switching from gray to gray. Accordingly, the display also performs well in fast-paced shooters and action titles.
Only the maximum brightness should be a little higher, especially as the display reveals some problems with the homogeneity of the illumination in the lower range – which our lab test will then confirm. However, these differences are absolutely within limits.
The result is an absolutely coherent picture that is not only convincing in everyday gaming, but also pleasing when consuming media. Here, we have already seen a noticeably poorer picture quality on much more expensive monitors.
The text readability is also pleasing and manages without any color fringing or the like. This makes the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO an exciting all-rounder that is just as impressive for office tasks as it is for watching videos or gaming.
Laboratory test of the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO
As always, the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO also had to prove itself in the lab test. To do this, I first reset the monitor to the factory settings. So if you navigate a little through the menus, you can still make a few optimizations with regard to the picture quality.
Let’s start with the colors first. The monitor covers 119.5 percent of the sRGB color space and 89 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, making it suitable for color-critical work.
This is also confirmed by the color fidelity. In the factory settings, it has an excellent average value of DeltaE 1.62. You can also select an sRGB mode in the menu, which subjectively achieves more accurate colors. In the lab test, the average value performs slightly worse, but the minimum and maximum values are closer together, making this mode the better choice.
The measured gamma value does not fully adhere to the value set in the OSD (in this case 2.2), even if you can select different values such as gamma 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4. The measured value is always 0.1 points below the set value.
In terms of maximum brightness and contrast ratio, the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO even exceeds the manufacturer’s specifications with 377.1 cd/m² and 3,550:1.
However, the LC-M34-Q-C-PRO unfortunately reveals clear weaknesses in the color and luminance homogeneity, which represent the balance of the color display and brightness distribution.
The monitor is particularly weak at a brightness value of 100 percent, while the deviations decrease when you reduce the brightness. With a deviation of DeltaE 6.3 in the middle lower third, the color homogeneity is still quite acceptable.
The deviations in luminance homogeneity are much greater at up to 20 percent. Especially in the peripheral areas, the brightness is noticeably lower than in the center of the monitor. This is particularly noticeable in games where fine graphic details are important. In general, the illumination appears unbalanced. It could be better.
LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO test: Conclusion
If you are looking for an affordable and convincing 21:9 gaming monitor, the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO is the perfect choice. The monitor scores with a convincing build quality and an elegant design including attractive, albeit not customizable, RGB lighting.
The selection of connections is also very pleasing, even if HDMI 2.1 is unfortunately conspicuous by its absence and only one DisplayPort is available. In conjunction with USB-C, there are still three connections for image display. The KVM switch is also a successful addition with rare value in this price range.
As far as picture quality is concerned, there is not much to complain about either. The monitor displays colors and contrasts very well and the response time and ghosting are also at a very good level. The monitor only reveals clear weaknesses in terms of illumination, which are particularly noticeable in the corners of the picture.
However, this only tarnishes the otherwise positive overall impression to a limited extent. The price-performance ratio of the LC-Power LC-M34-Q-C-PRO is truly outstanding.
