Logitech K835 TKL in review – perfectionist without number pad?

There are many different keyboards. But those who are looking for a keyboard without a numeric keypad – so-called TKL (Tenkeyless) keyboards – with mechanical switches do not have much choice anymore. With the K835 TKL, Logitech wants to provide exactly this target group with a high-quality aluminum keyboard without much gadgetry. But is it also a recommendation? Our review of the Logitech K835 TKL should clarify all this and more.

Design and workmanship

The gray case of the Logitech K835 TKL is made of anodized aluminum. This not only makes the keyboard look good, it also makes it feel that way. The concave-shaped keys are made of high-quality black plastic.

The keyboard is connected via USB Type-A. The cable is not centered, but offset to the right. Unfortunately, this is not exchangeable.

Overall, the keyboard is kept quite simple. Due to the mechanical switches and the torsional stiffness, the keyboard weighs 650 grams despite the lack of a number pad. It might not be ideal for transport, but it is also non-slip on the desk due to the rubber coating on the bottom.

Typing feel and functions

Essential for a keyboard is of course the typing feel. Of course, the ability to angle the keys is important for this.

With the help of the fold-out feet, Logitech’s K835 TKL allows you to choose between a 4° and 8° angle.

But what is the typing feel like? If you’ve ever typed with a mechanical keyboard, you’ll get along with the K835 TKL right away. Due to the torsional stiffness of the case and the stable keys, using the keyboard is pleasant and unobtrusive.

We deliberately chose the red switches for our test model. We couldn’t determine any problems. The volume during use is also not unusual.

Logitech also equips the K835 TKL with media controls. Various predefined functions can be accessed via a well-placed fn button. Further functionalities, such as an illumination, unfortunately don’t exist.

It should also be mentioned that Logitech does not offer any additional software for the keyboard. Simply plug it in and get started.

Conclusion

With the K835 TKL, Logitech offers a high-quality keyboard in a compact format without a number pad. The workmanship is top notch and the typing feel is as expected from a mechanical keyboard.

The only negative points are the fixed cable and the lack of a keyboard light. If you don’t mind these points, you’ll get a super keyboard with the K835 TKL. Also based on the price of € 62.72 *, we can definitely recommend this keyboard.
