With the Logitech MX Master 4, we are testing the latest mouse from the MX series, which comprises the manufacturer’s premium computer peripherals. The MX Master 4 is a further development of the previous models. The shape and size are almost identical to these, the mouse is visually different mainly due to its new surface. However, there are also other new features such as the Actions Ring, a digital overlay function and haptic feedback. The MX Master 4 is available for Windows in the colors light grey and graphite and for Mac in the colors black and white silver. In the following test, we take a closer look at the Logitech MX Master 4 for Windows in graphite.

Scope of delivery
- contains the mouse and a Logi Bolt USB receiver (USB-C)
- does not include a USB-C cable for charging the mouse
The Logitech MX Master 4 comes in a compact black box. On the front is a picture of the graphite-colored mouse and a reference to the haptic feedback. On the back, features and innovations familiar from previous models, such as the Actions Ring and haptic feedback, are presented in more detail. Information about the scope of delivery and how to charge the mouse can be found on the sides.
The box contains the mouse, a Logi Bolt USB receiver (USB-C) and a user manual. A USB-C cable for charging the mouse is not included. The scope of delivery is therefore rather minimalistic.
The MX Master 4 for Mac, which is also compatible with Windows, does not come with a Logi Bolt USB receiver.
Design and workmanship of the Logitech MX Master 4
- Larger and, at 150 g, heavier mouse
- Aluminum scroll wheel and thumbwheel
- Six additional buttons including a haptic sensory control panel
Like the previous models, the Logitech MX Master 4 is designed for productive users. The mouse has a footprint of 128 x 88 mm and a height of 51 mm. It is therefore 3 mm longer and 4 mm wider than the MX Master 3 (our test). The MX Master 4 is one of the larger mice and is ideal for the palm grip, where the fingers and the majority of the palm rest on the mouse. The mouse is asymmetrical and ergonomically shaped for right-handed users. It is also tilted, which means that the palm rests more naturally and relieves pressure on the wrist. The weight of the mouse is 150 g. It is therefore 9 g heavier than the MX Master 3.
The design is still very discreet thanks to the predominantly matt, graphite-colored surface and the dark grey side surfaces. The surface of the keys and the rest of the housing are made of non-slip plastic, while the side surfaces are rubberized. The rest of the housing and the side surfaces are also textured. The scroll wheel and thumbwheel are made of aluminum and are also textured.
On the top of the Logitech MX Master 4, in addition to the left and right mouse buttons, there is another button and a scroll wheel that can be pressed. The aluminum scroll wheel is one of the few contrasts to the otherwise matt, graphite-colored mouse. There is also a gray Logi logo on the left mouse button.
On the left-hand side of the MX Master 4 is a thumb rest with an integrated haptic-sensory control panel that stands out visually and haptically from the rest of the housing. There are three additional buttons above the control panel and the thumbwheel above the buttons. There are no buttons on the right-hand side. The MX Master 4 therefore has a total of six additional buttons, one of which is a haptic sensory control panel, and an additional thumbwheel.
On the underside of the MX Master 4 are the darkfield sensor, the on/off switch and an additional button that can be used to switch between up to three connected devices. The mouse also has three larger gliding feet made of PTFE, which has particularly good gliding properties. The USB-C port for charging the battery is located on the front of the mouse.
Material quality and workmanship
The material and workmanship quality of the Logitech MX Master 4 is very good. Logitech uses plastic for the surface of the mouse. The plastic housing of the MX Master 4 feels very pleasant and is more durable than the rubberized housing of the MX Master 3. The scroll wheel and thumbwheel made of aluminium also feel very pleasant. The keys and the rest of the MX Master 4’s housing are very well made and the gaps are uniform throughout.
Software
- Logi Options+ software
- Logi Marketplace with plug-ins for various applications
The Logitech MX Master 4 is supported by Logitech’s Logi Options+ software. The software provides an overview of the active devices, their battery status and connection as well as the inactive devices. The settings can be found in six sub-items. The settings in the two sub-items “Buttons” and “Point, scroll, press” can be customized either for all or for individual applications.
The button assignment can be customized in the “Buttons” sub-item. Customization is possible for the additional keys, but not for the left and right mouse buttons. In addition to simple key assignments, the new Actions Ring can also be assigned and customized here. The Actions Ring is a digital overlay function that allows up to eight actions to be displayed with a single click and executed with a further click. The Actions Ring can also be customized either for all or for individual applications. Plug-ins for various applications are also available in the Logi Marketplace, which enable specific actions to be carried out.
In the “Point, scroll, press” sub-item, the pointer speed and the settings for the scroll wheel and thumbwheel can be adjusted. The pointer speed is displayed as an exact value when expanded to 8K DPI and can be set in 50 DPI steps from 200 to 8,000 DPI. In addition, the pressure sensitivity of the haptic sensory control panel can be set in this sub-item.
The feedback can be adjusted in the “Haptic feedback” sub-item. The feedback can be activated when using the action ring and plug-ins, among other things.
Practical test of the Logitech MX Master 4
- Very comfortable operation
- Additional buttons, additional thumbwheel and actions ring for productive work
- Plastic casing feels very comfortable and looks more durable
Like the previous models, the Logitech MX Master 4 is very comfortable to hold. The thumb rests comfortably on the thumb rest with the integrated haptic sensory control panel. In our opinion, this is better placed than the additional button on the MX Master 3 and triggers comfortably. The rear buttons above the control panel are easy to reach with the thumb. The front button is not always easy for us to reach. Sometimes an additional hand movement is necessary. The index and middle fingers rest comfortably on the primary buttons. These also trigger comfortably and very quietly. The scroll wheel and thumbwheel are almost identical to the previous models.
Overall, we found the mouse very comfortable to use, even for long periods in the Palm Grip. The ergonomic shape, the size, the six additional buttons and the additional thumb wheel are very positive when working productively. The heavy weight, on the other hand, is not a negative factor.
The new surface of the MX Master 4 feels better than that of an older MX Master 3, but also slightly worse than that of a new MX Master 3. The rubberized housing of the MX Master 3 is initially of a slightly higher quality and has a better grip than the plastic housing of the MX Master 4. However, after a longer period of time, the rubberized housing becomes less grippy and also somewhat sticky. The plastic housing of the MX Master 4 still feels very pleasant and appears more durable. It could therefore be a good compromise for longer durability.
The other new features of the mouse are not yet fully convincing at the time of testing. The Actions Ring convinced us in the test and offers great benefits for productive work. The haptic feedback, on the other hand, is not yet convincing. The new feature seems interesting, but the added value is not yet clear to us. Haptic feedback is also only supported by very few applications; only three of the 40 plug-ins available in the Logi Marketplace currently support the feature(link to Logi Marketplace).
The MX Master 4, like the previous models, is also impressive. The Darkfield sensor offers a high resolution of up to 8,000 DPI and detects movements on all surfaces quickly and precisely. The mouse can be connected to up to three devices and data is always transferred via Bluetooth. The data transfer latency is low, but not comparable to that of gaming mice. The battery life is up to 70 days. After approx. 30 days, the battery level of our mouse is still over 50 %. The mouse can then be charged or used again with a USB-C cable.
Logitech MX Master 4 test: Conclusion
The Logitech MX Master 4 proves to be an excellent mouse for productive users. The shape and size are virtually unchanged compared to its predecessors. Like its predecessors, the MX Master 4 is very comfortable to hold. The six additional buttons, including a haptic sensory control panel, the additional thumbwheel and the new Actions Ring have a positive effect on productive work. The haptic feedback seems interesting, but the added value is not yet clear to us. The design of the mouse is still very discreet. The plastic housing of the MX Master 4 feels very pleasant and appears more durable than the rubberized housing of the MX Master 3. In addition, the mouse offers a fast and precise darkfield sensor, good connectivity, a long battery life and short charging times.
The Logitech MX Master 4 is currently available for €130 (as of 26.10.2025). The price corresponds to the RRP. This makes it, like all mice in the MX series, one of the more expensive mice for productive users. The MX Master 3S is available for €80. The price of the MX Master 4 is high, but in our opinion justified. For the same price, we recommend the MX Master 4, especially because of the thumb rest with the integrated haptic sensory control panel and the more durable plastic housing.
- ergonomic shape
- additional buttons, additional thumbwheel and new actions ring
- new haptic sensory control panel
- very good material and workmanship quality

- haptic feedback is only supported by very few applications
