TeamGroup T-Create P31 Review – External SSD for Cameras

Philipp Schneider
Philipp Schneider · 8 min. read

Having already tested a wide range of internal SSDs from TeamGroup, we now turn our attention to one of the company’s external SSDs. The TeamGroup T-Create CinemaPr P31 offers transfer rates of up to 2,000 MB/s. However, what sets it apart isn’t its speed, but its case and its suitability for video recording. The case is made of aluminum and features a total of twelve 1/4″ threads, allowing the external SSD to be mounted on cameras or camera cages. Thanks to its speed, it supports video resolutions of up to 8K. The external SSD is available with capacities ranging from 1 to 4 TB and comes in black and titanium colors. In the following review, we’ll take a closer look at the 1 TB model of the TeamGroup T-Create P31 in black.

The TeamGroup T-Create P31 (link to manufacturer) features USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 on the 4 TB model and USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 on the other two models. Transfer rates for the 4 TB model reach up to 2,000 MB/s for reading and 1,800 MB/s for writing, while the other two models reach up to 1,000 MB/s for reading and 950 MB/s for writing. The controller, flash memory, and cache used are unknown.

The TeamGroup T-Create P31 comes with a 5-year warranty.

Package Contents

The TeamGroup T-Create P31 comes in a compact, gray cardboard box with black accents. The front features an image of the black external SSD—both on its own and mounted in a camera cage—along with details about the model and capacity, as well as information about the enclosure and supported video resolutions. The back features additional information such as transfer rates, the model name, and the model number. The SSD itself is not visible. The box contains the external SSD, a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, a 1/4″ male-to-1/4″ male adapter with a lock washer, and two 1/4″ quick-release camera mounting screws.

Design and Build Quality of the TeamGroup T-Create P31

The TeamGroup T-Create P31 is available in black and titanium. The compact enclosure of the external SSD has a footprint of 51.0 x 93.0 mm and a height of 11.6 mm. The SSD weighs 97 g.

The T-Create P31’s enclosure is made of aluminum. The surfaces of the enclosure are fairly smooth and matte. The top features a T-Create logo and a CinemaPr logo, while the bottom displays information about the model and capacity, as well as details about the enclosure. A USB-C port is located on one of the short sides.

In addition, the T-Create P31’s enclosure features a total of twelve 1/4″ threads as a unique selling point. Three threads are located on the back and are surrounded by rubber padding; nine more are located on three of the four sides. This allows the external SSD to be mounted on cameras or camera cages in many different ways. The T-Create P31 also offers IP67 protection against dust and water. This means that the SSD is dustproof and fully protected against water contact and temporary submersion. The SSD is also shock-resistant and protected against drops from a height of up to 2 m; however, this does not apply to all types of surfaces.

The build quality and materials of the T-Create P31 are very good. The aluminum casing of the external SSD is very well crafted and shows no defects.

Test System

Performance Test of the TeamGroup T-Create P31

To determine the performance of the TeamGroup T-Create P31 in this test, we’re using the benchmarks from the tools AS SSD, CrystalDiskMark, ATTO Disk, and HD Tune Pro, as usual.

Performance Test Results

In the AS SSD Benchmark’s sequential read/write test, the TeamGroup T-Create P31 achieved a solid 1,021.50 MB/s for read speeds and 947.17 MB/s for write speeds. In the 4K test, the SSD achieved a solid 19.62 MB/s read speed and an excellent 68.94 MB/s write speed. This places it among the top performers in both the Seq test and the 4K write test among the USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 SSDs we’ve tested so far. However, the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 SSDs are significantly faster in the Seq test. The T-Create P31 achieves a good result in the benchmark score, and in the copy benchmark, the SSD achieves mostly good results.

In CrystalDiskMark, the T-Create P31 achieves a solid 1,093.17 MB/s in sequential read and 1,026.91 MB/s in sequential write. These results are 93 MB/s (~9%) and 77 MB/s (~8%) higher than the manufacturer’s specifications, respectively. In the 4K test, the SSD achieves a good 24.03 MB/s for reading and a very good 77.45 MB/s for writing. This places it among the top performers in both the sequential and 4K write tests among the USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 SSDs we’ve tested so far. The USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 SSDs are once again significantly faster in the sequential test.

The T-Create P31 also achieved good results in the other tests. In the ATTO benchmark, it reached up to ~966 MB/s read and 1,020 MB/s write. In the HD Tune benchmark, it reached 583.60 MB/s. This makes it one of the fastest USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 SSDs we’ve tested so far in both tests. The access times are slightly higher in both tests.

TeamGroup T-Create P31 Review: Conclusion

The TeamGroup T-Create P31 delivers consistently good performance in our tests and ranks among the top USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 SSDs we’ve tested to date in many benchmarks. In the sequential (Seq) tests, the results are good and exceed the manufacturer’s specifications; in the 4K tests, the results range from good to very good. However, the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 SSDs we’ve tested—such as the Crucial X10 (our review)—are significantly faster than the 1 TB and 2 TB models of the T-Create P31, particularly in the sequential tests. The T-Create P31 also impresses with its enclosure. The compact enclosure is made of aluminum and features excellent build quality. As a unique selling point, it has a total of twelve 1/4″ threads, allowing it to be mounted on cameras or camera cages. The T-Create P31 also offers IP67 protection against dust and water, making it even better protected than, for example, the Crucial X10, which offers IP65 protection.

The only criticism of the T-Create P31, unrelated to its price, is that TeamGroup does not provide any information about the components used. In practice, this could mean that TeamGroup does not rely exclusively on TLC flash memory, but also uses QLC flash memory or may incorporate it at a later date.

The 1 TB model of the TeamGroup T-Create P31 is currently available for ~180 € (as of September 13, 2026). Other USB 3.2 Gen 2×1 SSDs, such as the Kingston XS1000 (our review), are available starting at 150 €, while faster USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 SSDs, such as the Crucial X10 or the Kingston XS2000 (our review) are available starting at 165 €. Whether the price is justified depends primarily on whether you need the 1/4″ thread and plan to use the SSD for video recording. If you do need it, the price is justified; furthermore, we are not aware of any alternatives with a thread. If you don’t need them, the external SSDs mentioned above could be a good alternative, depending on the price.
