The complement to a headset? The Creative T60 desktop speakers in test

Sitting down in front of the PC after a long day at work is one of the most pleasant things in the world, isn’t it? But it’s even nicer when you don’t have to put the headset on directly for that, but can watch music, series or movies and have good sound via computer speakers. Creative has a great selection for this, and here we take a closer look at the new Creative T60 compact desktop speakers.

Design and finish

The design of the Creative T60 desktop speakers is kept quite simple. The matte black case has only transitioned to glossy black on the front. Therefore, the first marks quickly show up here, especially around the buttons. The only color accents are the membranes and the buttons, as well as the “CREATIVE” lettering on the right speaker, which are highlighted in a light bronze tone. Other than that, there are no design elements that stand out, except for the fact that the diaphragms themselves are exposed. This is certainly not to everyone’s liking, but it gives the T60s something special in terms of design.
Even though it’s not necessarily noticeable when the speakers are on your desk, it’s still noticeable when you hold them next to each other. The right box is a bit bigger than the left one. While all the ports are on the back there, I would be a fan of symmetry and would have liked speakers of equal size. Still, it has to be said that the difference is small enough that it doesn’t bother in the long run.

As for the workmanship of Creative’s speakers, you can’t find a bad word. Especially with the knobs, you can see that they don’t give off any unevenness in the overall picture, but are perfectly adapted to the slightly curved shape. The membranes are free and do not touch anywhere, and the individual components simply fit well against each other, so that the T60s are convincing all along the line.  The design is still a matter of taste, but the workmanship is top through and through. Therefore, we now come to what the T60 should have technically.

Already the table shows that you have some features and especially many connection options available. Especially in terms of connections, there is actually no wish left unfulfilled, especially when you consider that these are desktop speakers. Only an optical connection or RCA would still be open, but not really necessary. Especially in view of the fact that the speakers can be connected via USB. The option to connect your smartphone to the speakers is also a very nice feature if you don’t have your PC on, but still want to listen to music. You don’t need a second setup anymore and can save the power that the PC would consume. But what bring many connections and many cables, if the sound does not correspond to that, therefore now on into practice.

Practice & Sound

It is really pleasant to sit in front of the PC without a headset on your head and still listen to music or watch series. Furthermore, these speakers cost just under 80 €. The expectation that I can put on the T60 would then also have to be in this range. I can’t expect these speakers to compete with soundbars beyond €300, for example. Nevertheless, the weaknesses are clearly addressed in the following paragraph. This is followed by a price-performance classification.

First, we listen to the speakers with various music tracks. It quickly becomes clear what Creative has put the focus on, but equally, we quickly discover what is missing. “Our advanced BasXPort technology improves the bass even more and reproduces rich, deep tones. It eliminates the need for any subwoofer.” – with these words the T60s are described on the website. Well, unfortunately, there is really little to be heard of it. Already at the first notes of the music, it is noticeable that the sound is absolutely not balanced and the bass, which supposedly makes every subwoofer superfluous, is simply hardly present or not at all. In return, the mids and trebles are simply too powerful. Of course, I can hear the singers very well even in the most chaotic music, but music consists of much more than the singers. But that’s exactly what the Clear Dialog feature brings. Because that way, especially in series or in digital meetings, every word is really easy to understand. So, what cuts off a lot of emotion for music, also ensures good results in this area. Movie watching is also kept within limits accordingly. Of course, the conversations are also brought across well here, but action scenes in particular simply come up short.

Price-Performance

Now that the Creative T60s have gotten their due for now, we can get back to the real strength. The speakers are in a fairly low price range, which is why many of the shortcomings now is a grumble on a high level. For their money, they offer many different connections and a super scope of delivery. The features provide very good voice reproduction, only the bass feature just doesn’t live up to the advertising. So, if you’re looking for an absolute bargain to replace a home theater, you’ll simply have to dig much deeper into your pocket. However, if you don’t always want to wear a headset and enjoy watching series or listening to music that doesn’t emphasize bass, you should definitely include the CREATIV T60 in your selection.

Creative T60 speaker review conclusion

Finally, let’s summarize the most important things again. The Creative T60 desktop speakers come with quite a large scope of delivery and many cables. These are also necessary, since very many connection options are given. The design is a matter of taste, but in terms of workmanship, the speakers are absolutely top.

For the price of just under €80, the speakers offer good sound quality that reproduces speech and vocals very clearly. Only the advertised BasXPort feature hardly unfolds its effect, if at all. More honest advertising would have been better here. Nevertheless, the T60s offer good all-rounder features at a fair to reasonable price.

90/100

Not only the front shines in the T60s, but also the speech and vocal reproduction. Unfortunately, the speakers lack bass.
