The Sharkoon Light² 200 in the test: Ultralight gaming mouse at E-Sport level?

Sharkoon is known for its affordable peripherals and PC cases. Now the hardware expert from Germany is venturing into the area of professional gaming mice. I have tested whether the German manufacturer can also convince in the area of ultra-light mice. Can Sharkoon also do e-sports?

The importance of the right gaming mouse

Especially as a passionate first-person shooter player, I know the importance of the right gaming mouse. However, as the market is increasingly flooded with new products, it is difficult to keep an overview. While until a few years ago it was the number of buttons on a mouse that was decisive, nowadays the weight plays an increasingly important role. Many buttons are certainly of great importance in the field of strategy games. First-person shooters, however, demand rather fast gliding movements, good mouse buttons and above all a low total weight. Sharkoon promises all of this with the Light² 200.

The scope of delivery

In addition to the Light² 200, Sharkoon has included a number of accessories. Thus, three alternative DPI buttons as well as replacement feet for the bottom of the mouse can be found in the packaging. In addition, Sharkoon has given its ultra-light gaming mouse an exchangeable top side. The USB cable is already firmly attached to the mouse. You wouldn’t expect to find so many accessories in this lightweight packaging.

No average mouse

With the Light² 200, Sharkoon has not brought its first gaming mouse to market. The manufacturer has already been able to convince in the past with mice that have enjoyed great popularity primarily due to their good price-performance ratio. In contrast to the other mice, Sharkoon is by no means relying on a mouse for beginners with the Light² 200. Here, genuine e-sports enthusiasts should be able to celebrate success. You notice that immediately. Persons who rely on competitive gaming should receive a high-end mouse here, which should lead to success due to its light weight.

The Sharkoon Shark Force is available starting at a price of around 10 Euro, but doesn’t offer an e-sports feeling.

The lightest mouse from Sharkoon

With the Sharkoon Light² 200, the peripheral manufacturer is bringing its lightest mouse to date to the market. At a mere 62 grams, it undoubtedly deserves its place in the ultra-light gaming mouse category. But the low weight is not by chance. A glance at the mouse makes it clear that Sharkoon also relies on a design that is very holey. Thanks to many small holes in the form of honeycombs, the manufacturer has been able to save even the last gram of weight.

With holes in the form of honeycombs, Sharkoon has saved even more weight.

The design

Many manufacturers of ultra-light gaming mice rely on a hole-in-one design. This saves even the last grams of weight. However, this design is not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea. Sharkoon has taken precautions here. Thanks to the exchangeable top, the open design can be somewhat more closed. For this, however, one must accept three grams more weight. Whether this will ultimately have a noticeable effect when playing is doubtful, at least in the casual gaming sector.

The perforated top side can be exchanged.

The form

As is usual for an ultra-light mouse, the size of the Sharkoon Light² 200 is comparatively small. But it is by no means too small. Its total length of 120 mm seems to be optimal, at least for average hand sizes. Here Sharkoon comes into its own. After all, ultra-light mice are unfortunately often so small that playing with them requires a great deal of adjustment. When I held the mouse in my hand for the first time, the ergonomic form immediately struck me. It fitted perfectly to the palm of my hand. However, the mouse can only be operated with the right hand. As a result, left-handed people unfortunately do not enjoy the optimal ergonomics.

Compared to my Logitech MX Master the Light² 200 is small and handy.

The workmanship

The workmanship is not necessarily the very best. However, in the field of ultra-light mice this is rarely to be avoided. This is due to the weight of high-quality materials. Since ultra-light mice have to concentrate on the essentials, there is simply no room for “unnecessary” components. While the quality of the mouse itself makes an average impression, the cable is convincing in any case. Thanks to the high-quality textile cover, the mouse cable slides smoothly over the mouse pad and did not disturb at any time during the test.

The high-quality cable does not interfere even in the most tense gaming moments.

The features

With the Light² 200, Sharkoon obviously concentrates on the essential. The equipment is correspondingly slim. Instead of many different buttons, the ultra-light mouse offers just six buttons. This naturally includes the two mouse buttons and the mouse wheel. In addition there are two thumb buttons and a DPI switch. The latter offers a special trick. Sharkoon provides the user with a choice of different DPI switches in the scope of delivery. Everything is possible from strikingly prominent to inconspicuously flat. Thus the DPI switch can be used once for adjustment and then disappear again almost invisibly. This means that it will no longer be a nuisance in future. On top of that, this offers an optical adjustment possibility. Finally, the different DPI switches are available in red, blue and black.

The DPI button can be exchanged as desired.

Rapid feet

I especially liked the feet of the Sharkoon Light² 200, for which the manufacturer uses polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which ensures the mouse’s maximum speed. The mouse glides almost frictionlessly over the mouse pad, which is a great advantage especially for shooter fans. After all, even the smallest movements of the mouse can be carried out in a flash from left to right or up and down. With that I gained valuable time, which gave me an enormous advantage in the multiplayer match. I also noticed that I could counteract the warping of my weapon in CSGO very effectively. Since these feet wear out over time, Sharkoon directly adds five more to the package. That’s very praiseworthy!

The feet made of high quality PTFE ensure a minimum of frictional resistance.

RGB makes everything better

Sharkoon chose the name Light² for a reason. On the one hand this refers to the slim weight of the ultra-light mouse. On the other hand, however, the great lighting of the gaming mouse is immediately noticeable. Bright RGB shines towards the gamer, which can be customized with separate software. Illuminated are a strip on the bottom of the mouse, the company logo inside and the mouse wheel.

The separate software

While the light makes a great impression, the software is unfortunately not much more than average. However, Sharkoon has already announced that there will be further improvements. With the help of the software, not only the lighting can be adjusted. The DPI of the mouse can also be adjusted. Fortunately, the fact that the software is not the best does not bother the mouse too much. After all, it offers the possibility of setting all important functions on the peripherals themselves.

First of all, the DPI values can be set. For this purpose an uncomplicated pressure on the DPI button is necessary. In theory, anything is possible up to an inhuman 16,000 DPI. Nobody will use this, but on the data sheet it looks good. But also the polling rate can be set directly on the mouse. There is a corresponding switch on the bottom of the mouse for this purpose. The player has the choice between 125, 500 or 1000 Hz.

The Light² 200 offers gaming technology at the highest level.

Technical specifications at ESport level

A glance at the technical data makes e-sport hearts beat faster. For example, Sharkoon has built one of the best sensors available on the market into the Light² 200 – the PixArt PMW 3389, which is not without reason very popular with gaming mice for e-sports. Above all, the accuracy of the sensor makes it an absolute reference. The two mouse buttons are OMRON switches, which convince above all by their long durability. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, they should withstand up to 20 million clicks.

In addition to the two mouse buttons, the mouse wheel and the DPI button, the Light² 200 has two thumb buttons on the left side.

Conclusion

I’m very enthusiastic about the Sharkoon Light² 200, and what makes me especially positive is how much technology Sharkoon has installed in the smallest of spaces. Due to the low weight, the great ergonomics, and the very precise sensor, I not only had a sense of achievement while playing, but also a lot of fun. With the Light² 200, Sharkoon could establish itself as a reference manufacturer in the area of ultra-light gaming mice. Great work!
