Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced Test: Glows in the dark
The Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced Wired Controller is characterized by a highly ergonomic design that is based on the classic Xbox controller and, with precise dimensions of 175 x 175 x 71.5 mm and a low weight of only 390 grams, offers an ideal balance for hours of gaming sessions without causing unnecessary hand fatigue.
The surfaces are matte and feature laser-engraved textures on thumb sticks, triggers and grips, ensuring a secure, non-slip grip – especially in variants such as Cotton Candy, which even glows in the dark and creates a unique glow effect.
The overall finish is neat, with clean housing transitions, clearly legible lettering and robustly integrated quick-release buttons on the back (back paddles). However, the surface is relatively slippery and feels much less grippy and valuable than on more expensive counterparts.
The pressure points of the individual keys do not reach a premium level either. The D-pad is comparatively stiff, while the two paddles on the back seem a little rickety. In practice, however, the keys fulfill their purpose. Pleasant: The detachable 2.5 m long USB-C cable (USB-C to USB-A) snaps firmly into place, is flexible and of good quality, even if there is no fabric-covered cable.
Features of the Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced
The outstanding features include the patented 2-stop reverb effect hair triggers, which can be adjusted via sliders on the back: In standard mode, they provide a full stop for precise metering, while the hair trigger mode enables ultra-fast responses for FPS shooters or competitive action games.
The Hall Effect Magnet technology should also ensure that stick drift is not a problem with this gamepad. The two programmable back buttons (back paddles) allow flexible remapping so that you can conveniently operate various functions with your middle finger without having to reach around the front.
Turtle Beach has also equipped the controller with dual rumble motors, which provide differentiated haptic feedback from subtle vibrations to intense explosions or engine noises, as well as impulse triggers for realistic resistance for firearms or vehicles.
The integrated 3.5 mm jack connection on the underside ensures noise-free, high-quality audio output. Audio options such as game/chat balance and master volume can also be adjusted via the D-pad. There is also a dedicated mute button with a status LED to quickly mute a connected headset.
All in all, the Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced offers many features that are normally reserved for much more expensive gamepads. And even if the implementation does not come close to the quality of premium controllers, some of the features still offer a noticeable advantage in practice compared to original controllers without any additional functions.
App connection
The free “Control Hub” app for Xbox consoles and Windows PCs offers an intuitive interface for detailed configuration, including button remapping, trigger deadzone adjustment, stick sensitivity curves and firmware updates, with reliably storable profiles for genre-specific fine-tuning such as precise aiming in FPS or smooth inputs in racing games.
The app optionally serves as a supplement to direct controller assignment via the Function button, enables diagnostic functions for connection stability and offers overviews of hardware status, although advanced options such as detailed vibration curves or further adjustments are missing. If this is important to you, you will probably just have to invest more money in a controller.
Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced in practical test
In the practical test, the Rematch Advanced impressed with its latency-free USB connection, which should please competitive gamers in particular. Although the included cable could have been a little more flexible – but you can use your own cable if necessary.
The practical impressions of the Rematch Advanced are solid. While the back paddles offer a crisp trigger point, the feedback from the main buttons (A, B, X, Y) and the two shoulder buttons is somewhat spongy and lacks the precision of the original controller.
Even a Razer Wolverine V3 Pro 8K (our test) or the extremely popular GameSir G7 Pro offer much more precision here thanks to more tactile feedback. It’s a similar story with the triggers, which unfortunately also come without a grain and are quite slippery. However, I like their feedback much better, even though the tactile feel is also somewhat lacking here.
On the other hand, the trigger stops prove to be very practical and provide a real advantage, especially in shooters or action games. All in all, the Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced is easy to play with and offers a few additional advantages. In terms of precision and feel, however, it is noticeably inferior to its Microsoft counterpart and other (more expensive) controllers.
Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced Review: Conclusion
The Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced offers excellent value for money. In terms of features, it positions itself well above cheaper third-party gamepads thanks to 2-stop reverb effect triggers, software customizations and rear buttons.
On the other hand, it cannot quite compete with the original controllers in terms of workmanship and precision. Let alone with higher-priced controllers. Nevertheless, the Turtle Beach Rematch Advanced is a great option for anyone looking for an affordable and versatile wired gamepad.
