Photographers, whether professional or amateur, know that post-processing is a large part of their work and often takes up a lot of time. Retouching your own pictures is time-consuming. How good that there are now programs that rely on artificial intelligence as a tool, making the workflow easier and saving time. One such image editing software is Evoto AI (click here for the homepage). We took a closer look at this powerful tool in a test.
Functions and costs
Evoto AI is characterized by a comprehensive range of AI-supported functions that are specially tailored to the needs of portrait photographers. A special feature of the tool is that many tedious processes can be automated without compromising the natural image quality.
The core functions include precise facial recognition, which not only analyzes the gender and approximate age of the people depicted, but also automatically suggests suitable presets that are tailored to these characteristics. These include, for example, softer retouching for older models or more dynamic adjustments for younger ones. In the area of portrait retouching, the software shines with tools for removing skin blemishes such as acne, spots or freckles, smoothing wrinkles and wrinkles and lightening dark circles, whereby the AI always creates a natural skin image that preserves texture and pores. This is complemented by digital make-up effects, including realistic lipstick applications in different shades, eyelash thickening, blusher and concealer simulations, which can be dispensed with a single slider.

Evoto also offers advanced body contouring functions, such as reducing a double chin, adjusting posture or lengthening legs, always with a focus on ethical applications to avoid exaggerated changes. Color correction is also highly advanced: Automatic white balance adjustments, exposure corrections, HSL color controls for selective tonal changes as well as AI-based noise reduction ensure consistent results across entire image series. Special highlights include background replacement with deflection removal, sky replacement and continuity corrections that are seamlessly integrated into the portrait context, as well as tools for clothing retouching, accessory adjustments and even the removal of glasses or braces.

Evoto AI relies on an interesting, comprehensible and fair credit system. This allows a variable adjustment depending on the effort and the amount of images you want to edit.
Image editing itself is free of charge, which is a great way to get a taste of the image editing software and its functions. Each export of an edited image consumes exactly one credit. The subscriptions are staggered, so there are annual subscriptions or the “pay as you go” model, in which 200, 500, 1,200 or 3,600 credits can be topped up.

The starter plan for the annual subscription starts at 83 euros for 800 credits. The other model starts at 49 euros for 200 credits. Support is always provided for working with up to two end devices, and the credits are valid for two years.

The Evoto AI user interface
In my opinion, Evoto AI’s user interface appeals to amateurs and professionals alike and impresses with a clear, modular structure that makes even complex edits intuitively accessible and keeps the learning curve extremely flat.
When you start the program, a central dashboard opens, which presents all projects as an overview, sortable by date, folder or editing status, with a search function and drag-and-drop upload for seamless integration into existing workflows. The main workspace is divided into a large preview window on the left, which shows real-time changes, and panels on the right for functional categories: The portrait retouching panel offers detailed sliders for skin smoothing (intensity from 0-100), blemish removal with brush mode, eye and teeth whitening, and makeup layers that can be layered incrementally.
The color correction panel integrates curve tools, histogram display, white balance picker and AI color looks that are applied to reference images with one click, while the background panel offers options such as auto-balancing lighting, object removal or full replacement.
Each panel is also flexibly expandable and comes with tooltips that provide explanations and shortcuts. Presets can be easily loaded via a drop-down menu, adjusted and saved as favourites, including group synchronization for batches. Navigation is via an upper toolbar with export, undo/redo functions (up to 50 steps), zoom controls and a credit counter that tracks consumption live. Dark and light themes, customizable window sizes and touch support on iPad make Evoto AI extremely versatile.
Workflow and results
The workflow in Evoto AI is designed for maximum acceleration, starting with the import of entire folders or via tethering directly from the camera, enabling real-time retouching at events such as weddings or studio shoots. After loading, the AI automatically recognizes faces in batches, assigns presets and applies initial corrections. These include, for example, uniform exposure and white balance across all images, so that only fine adjustments need to be made.

Synchronized batch editing is the heart of the system: changes to one image (e.g. setting skin retouching strength to 40%) can be applied to the entire series at the touch of a button. With the option of individual overrides per face, which is essential for group photos and reduces times from hours to minutes.

For professionals, the workflow offers scalability through multi-device support, custom hotkeys and automation scripts for recurring tasks such as event photos with a fixed style. Challenges such as batch size limits (typically 100+ images) are managed through parallel processing, and features such as harmonization tools compensate for color differences in series. Overall, Evoto transforms the classic retouching marathon into a precise sprint, ideal for high-throughput photographers while maintaining professional results.
Evoto AI really comes into its own when it comes to portrait retouching, with tools that I have never seen in this form and simplicity in any other software. For example, a simple slider can be used to realistically change the rotation of the head, add a smile, adjust the clarity and size of the eyes and much more. As if by magic, an average photo becomes a harmonious portrait.
Circles under the eyes and facial shine disappear in no time at all, while the shape and appearance of facial hair is naturally preserved for beard wearers. Of course, you need to be careful with the intensity: If you turn the controls up too high, you will create portraits that no longer have much in common with reality.
But if you use the tools wisely, you can significantly enhance your pictures in an incredibly simple and intuitive way. The possibilities are almost limitless and I find it very pleasant how easy the software is to use.
In my opinion, the results are outstanding. Evoto AI impresses with its outstanding precision which, unless you overdo it, gives no indication that software has altered the image with the help of artificial intelligence.

And these edits not only work with portraits, but also with landscape and architectural shots as well as many other genres of photography.
Evoto AI Review: Conclusion
I really liked the functions of Evoto AI during the test. Especially those who work a lot with photos of people or portraits benefit significantly from the advanced retouching tools of the image editing software and save an incredible amount of time in post-processing.
The AI features do an impeccable job: with just a single click, Evoto delivers flawless and fast results that can be used or edited immediately afterwards. The software is easy to use and can be seamlessly integrated into any professional workflow. The ability to import Lightroom catalogs is also worth its weight in gold for professionals. RAW editing, retouching, cropping and image adjustments can all be done in one software solution.
In my opinion, this makes Evoto AI a convincing solution for photographers who occasionally want to retouch and save time in the process. In conjunction with the pay-per-edit credit system, the price is also right. At least if retouching is not the main focus of your work.
