Transcend is expanding its already extensive product range with some more exciting storage media. From mSATA to NVMe, the right product for everyone will soon be available. Freedom of choice also sets the tone when it comes to memory sizes. Almost anything is possible between 64 GB and 2 TB.
Four new SSDs
The popular manufacturer of storage solutions adds four new series to its products. These are to be characterized by the use of 3D-TLC-NAND of the 96-layer generation, not only by their incredibly fast speeds. In addition, the four new SSDs are expected to have a long service life and offer reliable protection against overheating.
Support of PCIe and NVMe: MTE652T2
The range around the MTE652T2 model offers two major features compared to the other new introductions. On the one hand, these SSDs rely on a PCIe 3.1 x4 interface. They also support the latest NVMe protocol (version 1.3). Reading speeds of up to a proud 3500 MB/s should be possible in the new series. On the write speed side, the new series allows up to 1000 MB/s. The MTE652T2 relies on an SLC cache for this.
The new storage media should also be convincing in terms of power consumption. They consume just 0.6 watts in idle mode. During data transfers the consumption increases to a low 3.3 watts. Transcend gives interested buyers the choice between three different memory sizes. Here you can choose between 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB.
From 64 GB to 2 TB everything is possible: MTS952T2
The special feature of the MTS952T2 is the unusually wide range of memory. Transcend gives you the choice of 64 GB to 2 TB. There will be six different versions in total. The storage solutions do not require PCIe, but a SATA interface. Read speeds of up to 560 MB/s are possible. In contrast, the write speeds are 520 MB/s. The lower performance is of course due to the fact that the MTS952T2 uses SATA instead of PCIe. But this also has advantages. For example, the SSD consumes just 0.3 watts in sleep mode. In active operation, the consumption increases to a still low 2.1 watts.
SSD in mini M.2 format: MTS552T2
Whoever is looking for a particularly small SSD will now also find it at Transcend. With the MTS552T2, they offer a solid state drive with the M.2 2242 form factor. This is an SSD that has a circuit board with the amazingly small size of 4.2 cm. However, the small circuit board brings a drop of bitterness with it. Due to the small size, “only” a maximum of 512 GB is possible here. The performance is similar to the MTS952T2. Thus the small SSD offers read speeds of 560 MB/s and write speeds of 510 MB/s. In the active transfer process, the small SSD requires just 1.7 watts.
Rare mini-SATA format: MSA452T2
After the introduction of the M.2 SSD form factor, mini-SATA has become less and less common in the storage solutions market. Nevertheless, Transcend is still focusing on the small format and with the MSA452T2 is bringing a series that is supposed to offer a lot of performance despite its small size. With read speeds of 560 MB/s and write speeds of 520 MB/s, the manufacturer has already succeeded in its plans, at least on the data sheet. In terms of power consumption, the mini-SATA model is in the midfield. It consumes 0.4 watts in standby and 2.4 watts in active operation.
Prices and availability
With its new products, Transcend is primarily targeting business customers. Accordingly, no prices have yet been published for the “Otto-Normal-Consumer”. However, it is always only a matter of time before such products are available on the open market. So far, the manufacturer has made it clear that the new SSDs will be used primarily in notebooks and classic desktop PCs.
