2K FIFA: New soccer game in the starting blocks?

In the gaming industry, EA has been ahead of the game when it comes to soccer for many years. The publisher has broken sales records year after year with its Fifa series. But since last year, EA has no longer been working with FIFA and has simply renamed its soccer game EA Sports FC. 2K is now taking advantage of the cooperation opportunity this has freed up.

Cooperation between 2K Games and Fifa

There are still around two and a half weeks until the opening match of the 2024 European Championship kicks off. The usual hype is likely to drive up sales of the popular soccer games once again. The long-established games such as EA Sports FC and Pro Evolution Soccer are likely to soon face competition from 2K Games. The US publisher has already made a name for itself with other sports games.

But it is breaking new ground in the field of soccer. Rumors currently circulating on the internet suggest that a suitable soccer game is already being worked on behind the scenes. The games business Mohplay, based in Ghana, reported on X (formerly Twitter). This was followed by the information that a contract for the soccer game had apparently been signed between FIFA and 2K Games.

Mohplay remains silent about where the information comes from. But the information is not really new for insiders. After all, there have been rumors for some time that the two parties could be working together. However, fans of the old FIFA series should temper their expectations somewhat. After all, the new game will probably have to make a few compromises.

2K Fifa without Bundesliga?

Of course, EA hasn’t completely scrapped its Fifa series. Rather, the publisher has grabbed the cherries from the cake and is diligently paying license fees to the soccer association. This also includes the Bundesliga. For German fans, this could mean a considerable loss of gaming fun for the planned 2K Fifa. After all, EA will certainly have secured exclusive rights here.

The Bundesliga is just one of several leagues that soccer fans will only be able to enjoy in EA’s soccer game. The publisher also holds the rights to important tournaments such as the European Championship and the Champions League. However, if you just want to play soccer and don’t care about licenses, the planned 2K Fifa obviously offers alternatives.

For example, there could be niche areas such as beach soccer in the planned game. The Olympic soccer matches could also be included in the game as tournaments. However, it remains to be seen whether this will win over die-hard Fifa fans from the very beginning. We are looking forward to more details about the planned game.
