60 million dollars in prize money to be won at the E-Sports World Cup ’24

With the E-Sports World Cup (official website), a brand new event in the field of e-sports is taking place in Saudi Arabia this year. Not only are we likely to witness a record-breaking production. On top of that, the prize money that has now been announced will make some people’s ears prick up.

E-sports is no longer a niche sport

The year 2024 will be dominated by major global sporting events. Not only the European Football Championships and the Summer Olympics in Paris await us. The E-Sports World Cup is also celebrating its premiere. Saudi Arabia is the first country to host this major event for gaming fans. With prize money totaling 60 million US dollars, it is clear that e-sports is no longer a niche sport. The tournament in Saudi Arabia thus sets a new record for prize money.

There will be a total of 20 tournaments at this sporting event, which is completely new in the world of e-sports. A total of 19 well-known gaming titles will be played. In alphabetical order, the games are Apex Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, EA Sports FC 24, Fortnite, Free Fire, Honor of Kings, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Overwatch 2, PUBG Battleground, PUBG Mobile, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, ESL R1, Rocket League, StarCraft II, Street Fighter 6, Teamfight Tactics and Tekken 8.

New records for prize money

The gaming industry is still a real money-printing machine. That’s why the E-Sports World Cup naturally also offers attractive prize money. How much money is ultimately won depends on more than just the category. In the “Club Champion” competition, for example, there is a total of 20 million US dollars to be won. This is then divided among the 16 best teams.

The game titles also determine how much money there is to be won. At the top of the list is Dota 2, where the winner can look forward to a whopping 5 million US dollars in prize money. Of course, that sounds attractive to everyone who is anyone in the e-sports world. But apart from that, Saudi Arabia also wants to attract many gaming fans to Riyadh – the venue.

Among other things, there will be an extensive supporting program. Publishers and developers could possibly use the sporting event to carry out trade fair-like promotions. In any case, the gaming culture as a whole should be the focus of the event. What exactly Saudi Arabia means by this will be revealed at a later date.
