Exchange Y2K22 bug: Another fix released

Since the turn of the year 2021/2022, Microsoft Exchange has been plagued by a nasty Year 2022 bug (Y2K22 bug), which we have already reported. Now, Microsoft has released another fix that should fix the bug for good.

Automated Exchange Y2K22 bug fix released

The FIP-FS scan engine, Exchange’s virus scanner, has been issuing an error message since the turn of the year and refusing to deliver emails as a result. Microsoft quickly came up with a solution, which, however, required many steps.

If one had to switch off the scanner manually with many steps so far, one supplies now on the Technet Website a PowerShell script, which is to simplify the process clearly.

To do this, the user simply has to download the corresponding script and execute the command “Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned” before running it, in order to fix the problem with Microsoft Exchange, at least temporarily.

The new, automated solution should be suitable for Exchange Server 2016, as well as for the 2019 version. However, a server restart is sometimes necessary for the script to be applied correctly.

It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will be able to get to grips with the Exchange Y2K22 bug completely without executing scripts in the future. Until then, however, the automated solution offers a significant simplification of the work processes. However, the solution is not ideal either.
