Expensive snapshot: 12,500 euro fine for “Dickpics”

Sending so-called “dickpics” is no joke. This has now been underlined by the Stralsund Regional Court in a ruling. After a man sent a woman unwanted explicit photos of his own private parts, he now has to dig deep into his pockets. The court sentenced the digital exhibitionist to pay a fine totaling almost 12,500 euros.

Victim receives 4,000 euros in compensation

Online communication via chat platforms is becoming increasingly popular. Unfortunately, however, there are also black sheep in this area. Sometimes people use the services to send unwanted explicit content. One of these black sheep has now been given a lesson by the courts.

The 23-year-old defendant not only sent a woman texts with pornographic content. He also went one better and sent the victim photos and videos of his private parts. The so-called “dickpics” have now resulted in the perpetrator having to pay his victim compensation of 4,000 euros.

According to the Stralsund Regional Court’s press release, the victim is no stranger to the case. In fact, she is not only known from social networks. She is also said to have appeared on television. The victim is said to have received her first text messages at the beginning of 2023.

Total sentence significantly higher

However, it is not just 4,000 euros that the perpetrator now has to pay out of his own pocket. Rather, it is a total sum of over 12,000 euros. After all, it is not just the compensation that the offender has to pay. He will also have to pay further costs. Firstly, there is the penalty order from October 2023.

This included a fine of 2,400 euros. In addition, as a guilty defendant, he must also pay the victim’s court costs and legal fees. If the individual items are added together, the total fine amounts to over 12,500 euros. The amount of the fine shows that, fortunately, dickpics are no longer considered a little joke on the Internet.

The court’s ruling is clearly in line with a planned new EU directive. As heise online reported in February, the European Union wants to better protect women from digital violence. All EU member states are to be obliged to adequately punish the sending of dickpics and other questionable content.
