Google Chromecast: Special remote control for YouTube presented

Google continues to work on improving the functionality of its devices and services in interaction. Owners of a Google Chromecast can look forward to more convenient control of the YouTube video portal. This is made possible by a new remote control function.

Google Chromecast gets YouTube remote control

Exciting innovation for the YouTube app when using a Google Chromecast: As the search engine giant reveals in a revised support document, owners of the streaming device can look forward to improved operation.

With the help of the new remote control function, controlling the app from the smartphone should turn out to be more comfortable than it is currently possible via the usual YouTube interface on the smartphone.

Until now, the Google Chromecast used a smartphone or tablet to start and operate the stream of content from there. A classic, physical remote control is not included with the streaming device (currently on sale for 29 euros), which costs around 40 euros. The new YouTube remote control feature is also expected to be available in combination with the Cast feature on Android TV devices.

Smartphone becomes a remote control

Thanks to the new YouTube remote control, one’s smartphone becomes a remote control in combination with the Google Chromecast. Instead of a static interface, the Chromecast now shows the familiar TV interface that can be controlled via smartphone.

From now on, the familiar YouTube interface of smart TVs will be displayed there, where you can quickly and easily navigate through suggestions, select channels, search for content or start playback.

The smartphone display then shows a virtual remote control including a control pad, which can be used to control the TV interface in conjunction with the Chromecast. The rollout of the new function has already begun, and the first users can already use the new interface. The YouTube remote control should be available to all users in the next few days.
