Lenovo ThinkPhone: Motorola presents particularly secure business smartphone

Motorola’s first smartphone innovation in 2023 is the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola. It is supposed to stand out with special security features and relies on a cutting-edge processor with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but is primarily aimed at business users.

Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola revealed

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola had already been ghosting through the Internet as a leak for quite some time, and now the manufacturer has officially unveiled the business smartphone. From a technical point of view, the smartphone measuring 158.76 mm x 74.38 mm x 8.26 mm and weighing 188.5 grams is optimally equipped.

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is used along with either 8 GB or 12 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB system storage. The casing is protected against water penetration according to IP68, while the black ribbed back provides a pleasant feel.

The smartphone is certified according to MIL STD 810H and is made of aramid fiber for additional robustness. An aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus round out the features.

Motorola also installs a 6.6-inch pOLED display that resolves in Full HD+ with 2,400 x 1,800 pixels and offers a refresh rate of 144 hertz. The battery is also quite large with 5,000 mAh and can be charged with a maximum of 68 watts via cable or 15 watts wirelessly. In addition, there is fast Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetoth 5.2 and a USB 3.1-compatible USB-C port. Modern equipment, then.

Special level of security

Nevertheless, Lenovo primarily targets business users and promises an “outstanding connectivity to the ThinkPad notebooks”. Thanks to ThinkShield, the business data on the smartphone is supposed to be particularly well protected.

“AI-based defenses, regulatory certifications, trusted suppliers, vetted manufacturing processes, and a dedicated incident response team provide absolute security,” the manufacturer promises.

Integrated device hardware, firmware and software are said to protect even sensitive data. With Moto KeySafe, PINs, passwords and cryptographic keys are isolated from other device data, which further increases security.

At the same time, the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is supposed to connect to the PC quickly and easily. To do so, you simply need to tap the red side button twice to initiate the connection. Tapping once can also open a previously specified app.

Thanks to app streaming, mobile apps can also be displayed on the PC or notebook for seamless operation between smartphone and PC. Transferring files between ThinkPhone and your PC is as simple as dragging and dropping. In addition, the smartphone can be used as a webcam on the PC or notebook.

The cameras

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola does not have to hide when it comes to cameras either. Thus, the manufacturer relies on a 50 MP main camera with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, as well as a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 and macro mode.

On the front, you’ll find a 32-megapixel selfie camera in a centrally placed punch hole at the top of the display that offers an aperture of f/2.45. Videos can even be recorded on the back in 8K resolution at 30 fps or in 4K UHD at 60 frames per second.

Prices and availability

The Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola is also expected to launch in Europe in the coming months. However, the manufacturer has not yet communicated prices. More details can be found on the official product website of Lenovo.
