Team Group has introduced an SSD especially for chia mining. The new SSD has an incredible lifespan, and the manufacturer also offers a twelve-year warranty.
SSD for mining enthusiasts
Since there has been a shortage of graphics cards and processors for a few months now and this will soon spread to the SSD market as well, Team Group has developed an SSD that is especially suitable for mining enthusiasts. The SSD shines with a very long lifetime of 6,000 TBW or 12,000 TBW depending on the storage capacity. There is a choice of storage capacities of 1 TB or 2 TB for the SSD.
In contrast to the Team Group T-Create Expert SSD, SSDs with the same storage capacity on the market only achieve 1,200 TBW. The Team Group SSD can offer more. Otherwise, the SSD is a normal PCIe Gen 3 x4 M.2 SSD. The read speed is 3400 MB/s and the write speed is up to 3000 MB/s, as well as a random write rate of up to 180K IOPS. Which NAND flash and controller are used in the Team Group SSD is not yet known.
The scarcity in the market comes mainly from cryptocurrencies, Ethereum in particular influences the market of graphics cards and processors and Chia impacts the SSD market as the new cryptocurrency is mined on storage media. Here, a “proof of space and time concept” is used, in which cryptographic numbers are stored in parcels. More than one exabyte (one million terabytes) of storage is now being used for this worldwide.
Team Group designed the new SSD with a particularly long runtime in mind, since Chia mining involves a large number of write processes. Thus, the wear and tear of a standard SSD is sometimes quickly reached. The Team Group SSD is therefore also available with a twelve-year warranty.
Availability and prices
The company has not yet announced when and at what price the new SSD from Team Group will be available.
