New Tile Tracker: competition for Apple AirTag with long runtime and SOS button

Tile recently introduced four new Bluetooth trackers as an alternative to Apple’s AirTag. These new models offer some impressive features that make them an attractive option for technology fans. Of particular note are the improved Bluetooth range, an SOS button for emergencies and a battery life of up to three years.

  • SOS button: On most new models, an emergency message can be sent to saved contacts by pressing the button three times.
  • Extended range: The trackers offer a Bluetooth range of up to 152 meters, depending on the model.
  • Long battery life: Most trackers last up to three years, but without a replaceable battery.
  • Varied selection: Four models (Mate, Slim, Sticker and Pro) offer different sizes and applications.

New features of the Tile Tracker

Tile has not only updated the design of its trackers, but has also added several features to make locating objects more effective and versatile. In addition to the increased range, the built-in speaker makes it easier to hear the tracker even in noisy environments. One highlight is the SOS button, which is particularly useful in emergency situations: by pressing it three times, a message with the current location is sent to previously defined emergency contacts. This function is available on three of the four models (Mate, Slim and Sticker), which makes Tile particularly attractive compared to the competition, such as the Apple AirTag.

The range of the new models varies: While the Tile Sticker is the entry-level model with a range of 76 meters, the Tile Mate and Slim can cover up to 106 meters. The top model, the Tile Pro, reaches an impressive 152 meters. This improved range makes it much easier to find lost objects via the associated Tile app.

Sustainability and battery performance

Another plus point is the long battery life. The trackers (except Tile Pro) can be operated for up to three years before they need to be replaced. One disadvantage, however, is that the batteries in the cheaper models are permanently installed and therefore cannot be replaced. This could lead to the production of electronic waste in the long term. The Tile Pro, on the other hand, has a replaceable battery that lasts for around a year, similar to the Apple AirTag.

Unfortunately, the new Tile trackers lack some of the high-end technologies found in the competition, such as ultra-wideband (UWB), which enables more precise positioning in the vicinity. Furthermore, they cannot be integrated into networks such as Apple’s “Where is?” or Google’s “Find My Device” system, which means that they can only be tracked via the Tile app.

Conclusion

The new Tile trackers offer many advantages, especially for users who are looking for an alternative to Apple’s AirTag. The SOS button, the longer range and the robust design make them a practical everyday helper. The lack of ultra-wideband support and the non-replaceable batteries of the cheaper models are drawbacks. Prices for the new Tile trackers start at around 29.99 euros for the Tile Mate, and the Tile Pro is available from 39.99 euros in the manufacturer’s online store.
