In a post on Instagram, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg presented new functions of the stylish and smart Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.

Meta boss Zuckerberg has now announced a beta version that is set to bring exciting new features. From now on, the glasses will be able to recognize points of interest.

Zuckerberg immediately demonstrated how well this works on Instagram. The tech billionaire hiked through Yellowstone National Park in the US and had his glasses show him important places. In the post, for example, the glasses recognized the Roosevelt Arch – a more than hundred-year-old stone arch that represents the entrance to the national park. The smart glasses use their built-in camera to recognize the surroundings. In the video, it became clear that the smart glasses provide more detailed information about what they see. This is where the speakers are used, which emit audio via bone-sound technology.

Zuckerberg then went on to demonstrate that the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses can also be used as a convenient voice assistant on the go. To do this, he asked his glasses how horses fare in the snow. They immediately replied that they would freeze if there was no appropriate thermal protection. The voice picks up the glasses with its five microphones. Both examples are intended to demonstrate the strengths of the Meta-Assistant. This is the tech company’s in-house AI, which we cannot use as users in Germany for the time being. The feature is initially reserved exclusively for US users. Accordingly, a purchase in this country seems pointless so far.

As the glasses cost at least 359.00 euros, you should still consider whether a conventional Ray-Ban is not the better choice. After all, the functions are fairly straightforward. Instagram power users can use the glasses to organize livestreams, for example. The camera with a resolution of 1,080p is also used for this. You can also use them as a convenient hands-free device thanks to the microphones and speakers. However, we can assume that the price could skyrocket once the AI is also available in this country.
