Snapdragon X: Leak Speaks of Many Variants and High Prices

June 2024 is likely to bring exciting innovations to the laptop market, as US manufacturer Qualcomm is set to unveil its first in-house ARM chips for laptops with the Snapdragon X series. These are intended to compete with Intel and Apple’s M2 and M3 processors. The first leaks are now doing the rounds, suggesting at least eight different chips. And they won’t be cheap either.

Snapdragon X: Driver indicates two series

At the end of MWX 2024, Qualcomm dropped the bombshell and revealed that the Snapdragon X chips for notebooks will be unveiled at Computex 2024 in June. Although it was said at the time that there would only be one SKU of the chip, it now looks very different.

Of course, you could have guessed that, as Qualcomm CEO Cristiano R. Amon and Computex spoke of“AI-powered PCs with Snapdragon X Series” around two weeks ago, which already hinted at different variants.

After X user Gustave Monce already hinted at different variants at the end of January, this now appears to be true. At least, if a leaked Qualcomm driver on Baidu is to be believed.

It shows that the Snapdragon X series will be based on two different models, each with four different variants. According to the leak, Qualcomm’s subdivision is as follows:

Snapdragon X Plus:

  • Snapdragon X Plus X1P64100
  • Snapdragon X Plus X1P62100
  • Snapdragon X Plus X1P56100
  • Snapdragon X Plus X1P40100

Snapdragon X Elite:

  • Snapdragon X Elite X1E84100
  • Snapdragon X Elite X1E80100
  • Snapdragon X Elite X1E78100
  • Snapdragon X Elite X1E76100

It is not yet known what the differences between the series and individual variants are. We only know more about the Snapdragon X Elite X1E78100 thanks to a Geekbench leak from February 22.

This is based on a combination of 8 4 cores and a base clock of 4.01 GHz. The graphics calculation is carried out on the internal Adreno GPU, which in turn is a complete unknown.

It could be expensive

Logically, I would assume that the Snapdragon X Plus series should be below the Snapdragon X Elite in terms of price and performance, but we won’t know more until June – provided there are no further leaks.

WinFuture editor Roland Quandt now claims that at least the Elite models are unlikely to be cheap, based on a retailer leak about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge, which according to Quandt’s information should be priced at around €1,800.

According to the information, Samsung is apparently combining a 14-inch display with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. This would put Samsung on a par with the new Apple MacBook Air M3, which is priced at 1,759.00 euros in a comparable configuration.

The new Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge has also already been leaked in the Geekbench overview, although official confirmation from the manufacturer is still pending.
