Does Sony land the next price-performance hit in the field of true wireless earbuds? With the Sony WF-C700N, they have introduced a new model that comes with multipoint and ANC function at a comparatively low price. The over-ear top model WH-1000XM5 also comes in a new color.
The Sony WF-C700N in detail
After the excellent Linkbuds S (our review) last year, we could already be in for the next price-performance hit from the Japanese. The new Sony WF-C700N true wireless earbuds have been introduced, which have a lot to offer for a price of around 130 Euros.
The headphones are available in goji black, elderberry white, lavender and sage green and feature active noise cancellation (ANC) including transparency mode (called Ambient Sound mode here), as well as Bluetooth Multipoint for connecting to two audio sources simultaneously.
The manufacturer also promises a particularly high wearing comfort and stable hold in the ear. “The development incorporated the extensive data on ear shape that Sony has collected since the introduction of the first in-ear headphones in 1982,” Sony said.
Also on board once again is the DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine), which is supposed to improve the quality of the music. Inside, 5 mm drivers do their job, which are supposed to realize a rich sound with powerful bass and clear voices despite the manageable size. Within the companion app, the sound can also be further adjusted using an equalizer.
Up to 15 hours of battery life, WH-1000XM5 in new color
The Sony WF-C700N are said to offer up to 15 hours of battery life. 7.5 hours each are allotted to the Earbuds themselves and the charging case, and that’s with the ANC function activated. Without active noise cancellation, even up to 20 hours (10h + 10h) are said to be possible.
The Earbuds are also IPX4 water-resistant and feature microphones with wind reduction, which are supposed to ensure clear voice intelligibility even in outdoor use.
Moreover, Sony is reissuing its in-house over-ear top model WH-1000XM5 from last year in a new Midnight Blue color.
Prices and Availability
The Sony WF-C700N true wireless earbuds are scheduled to be available in stores in April 2023. Thereby, the manufacturer’s recommended retail price is 129.99 euros.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 in the new Midnight Blue color will also arrive in April 2023 at an MSRP of 419 euros – on Amazon, however, they are available for pre-order for 349 euros. Amazon lists both headphones with a release date of April 12. More details can be found on the manufacturer’s official product website.
