Tesla Powerwall 3: New solar storage system from the e-car manufacturer

Tesla had a number of announcements up its sleeve at Intersolar. The Tesla Powerwall 3 was particularly eye-catching. In the latest version of the energy storage system, the car manufacturer claims to have not only made it easier to use. There is also said to have been a significant leap in performance. Only the price could be a real damper on many people’s will to buy.

Tesla Powerwall 3 has been long awaited

The Powerwall 2 has now been on the market for seven years. This makes it all the more understandable that Tesla fans have already been clamoring to get their hands on the latest model of the storage system. Now, with Tesla Powerwall 3, not only has the latest solar storage system finally been announced. On top of that, the storage system is now available.

With the Tesla Powerwall 3, the US company wants above all to have eliminated the teething troubles of its predecessors. And there were a few. Firstly, there was the questionable design with exposed cables. On the other hand, the storage system had a high operating noise level, which naturally annoyed many people.

While these convenience problems affected the first generation of the storage system, according to a report by t-online.de, users also had good reason to complain about the Powerwall 2. For some, the system was simply too inflexible. This was made clear by the fixed storage capacity, which cannot be expanded at all.

Tesla Powerwall 3 vows improvement

The US car manufacturer should hopefully have fixed these problems with the third generation of the energy storage system. At the very least, the company claims to have improved comfort. However, a look at the technical data is somewhat sobering. At least if you look at the storage size.

As with the now outdated Powerwall 2, the system is said to offer a total storage capacity of 13.5 kWh. The peak input power should be a very good 13 kW. Incidentally, if you want to integrate the Powerwall 3 into your home power grid, you will need to purchase the Backup Gateway 2.

Sporty price

If you are interested in the Powerwall 3, you will need to contact a local installer. However, you should also keep the horrendous price in mind. According to our colleagues at Golem.de, Tesla charges just under 7,200 euros for its storage system. Since the price is shown without VAT, we can assume a final price of just under 8,568 euros according to Adam Riese. The Backup Gateway 2, which is likely to be essential for many users, will cost an additional 1,000 euros.
