The Finals Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

The competitive and free first-person shooter The Finals launched extremely successfully on Steam in December as Shadow Drop. Developer Embark Studios will be adding new content to the free-to-play title on March 14. We have summarized all the information about The Finals Season 2.

The Finals Season 2: What to expect

After the competitive online shooter The Finals for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S with destructible environments took the gaming world by storm, player numbers have plummeted in recent weeks. With the launch of The Finals Season 2, the developers now want to breathe new life into the game

The new season is all about hackers and manipulation. The background to the season is that the game show has been infiltrated by the renegade hacker collective CNS, resulting in fresh ideas and new modes.

One new addition is the hacker playstyle, in which you take on the role of CNS and go into battle with new gadgets or a new specialization. These allow you to remove walls, manipulate gravity or modify devices and objects, for example. These include the following new gadgets:

  • The Dematerializer (Intermediate Class): A specialization that temporarily erases physical surfaces such as walls, ceilings or goo, allowing candidates to see, shoot and pass through them. Players create new passageways and close them again – turning every obstacle into an open door.
  • The Anti-Gravity Cube (Heavy Class): A deployable cube that manipulates gravity in its immediate vicinity, lifting participants and objects upward. Is it a tool for overcoming obstacles? Or a means of defense? That depends on each individual participant.
  • The Gateway (Light Class): A pair of deployable portals with limited range. When both are thrown and activated, participants and items can move between the two locations. Anyone can use a portal, but players cannot see them or shoot through them. Perfect for a quick escape when things get dicey.
  • The Data Reshaper (Intermediate Class): a gadget that turns enemy fortifications (or any object) into something completely different – for example, an enemy mine into a chair. Or an enemy turret into a table. Great for breaking through enemy defenses.

There are also new weapons for the existing classes. The light class has been given the 93R Shockfire Submachine Gun, the medium class the FAMAS Shockfire Assault Rifle and the heavy class the KS-23 Shotgun.

New map and game mode

The Finals Season 2 also brings a new map to the first-person shooter. It goes by the name of SYS$HORIZON and picks up on the hacker theme. It is a neon-filled cityscape full of glitches and is designed to offer a mixture of vertical and horizontal gameplay.

Power Shift is the name of the new game mode. Here, 10 players compete against each other in two teams. The aim is to escort a platform through the arena. If it is interrupted by an opposing team, the platform comes to a standstill or changes sides completely. This is very reminiscent of Overwatch.

It also appears to be possible for the first time in the new mode to swap classes between respawns and thus react to the action.

In Season 2, participants will be able to compete in a revamped league system that enhances the ranked play experience, with league rewards that raise the stakes. A new career system offers weekly rewards from Season sponsors, allowing players to progress from Rookie to Pro by completing contracts during the Season.

This promises that The Finals will keep players glued to their screens with new rewards over the course of the three-month season. The Finals Season 2 starts on March 14 for free on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
