Zotac Zone: Gaming handheld with Ryzen 7 8840U and AMOLED display

Following the leak of the past few days, Zotac has now officially unveiled its gaming handheld. The Zotac Zone looks very similar to the Steam Deck, but comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor with AMD Radeon 780M and a 120 Hz AMOLED display.

Zotac Zone presented: What’s inside the new gaming handheld

The wave of new gaming handhelds is rolling in. After the ASUS ROG Ally X and the MSI Claw 8 AI , the Zotac Zone is another model vying for the crown. We already knew a lot since the leak of the past few days.

The Zone comes with an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U chip and Radeon 780M iGPU, which are on a par with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme. The chip operates with 15 watts TDP as standard, but can draw up to 28 watts. A rotary control allows quick switching between the modes.

16 GB of LPDDR5x-7500 RAM and a 512 GB SSD are installed, although it is not yet clear whether this is available in the M.2 2280 form factor.

The device also features a 7-inch, 120 Hz AMOLED display in 1080p resolution, which promises an excellent display. The two trackpads to the left and right of the display are borrowed from the Steck Deck and are intended to offer mouse-like control.

Hall effect joysticks and smaller battery

The analog sticks use a reverb effect, which should solve the problem of stick drift. There are also two-stage customizable triggers, a feature that we know from many professional controllers and should be particularly exciting in shooters.

The Zotac Zone also has a camera on the front, although it is not entirely clear what exactly the point of this is. With a capacity of 48.5 watt hours, the battery is significantly smaller than that of the competitors presented in recent days.

Price and availability

The Zotac Zone will be available in stores at an RRP of 799 euros. A release is planned for the third quarter of 2024. The manufacturer will reveal further details on the official website shortly.
