Dell and Alienware have presented an innovative concept at CES 2022. With Alienware Concept Nyx, game streaming of PC games is supposed to take place locally within your own four walls again. Up to four titles should be able to be streamed in parallel and without the disadvantages of current cloud gaming solutions.
CES 2022: Alienware Concept Nyx presented
Game streaming has enjoyed growing popularity in recent months. Providers like NVIDIA GeForce Now, Google Stadia or Microsoft xCloud are vying for gamers’ favor. Even the most modern and complex titles can be played over the Internet without having to own a powerful gaming PC.
However, Dell and Alienware want to bring streaming back home with the Alienware Concept Nyx presented at CES 2022 and avoid the associated problems like high latencies or failures.
Instead of relying on external servers, the concept is supposed to be a 4-in-1 gaming PC that functions as a kind of home server. PC games can thus be streamed to up to four different end devices in the user’s own home.
Here, titles from various gaming stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store and more are collected and can be played on various devices. This includes, for example, desktop PC, notebook, tablet, smartphone or TV. Rendering multiple games in parallel, including simultaneous display on the same display, should also be possible with this.
Concrete details on Alienware Concept Nyx are still missing
The tech website Tom’s Hardware has already been able to test a demo version of Alienware Concept Nyx and describes the concept as a kind of particularly powerful gaming PC that is capable of streaming up to four games simultaneously to other screens in the household. At the same time, seamless switching between the individual playback devices is possible at any time.
Thus, the concept is primarily aimed at those who appreciate the flexible possibilities of cloud gaming solutions, but don’t have the necessary internet connection to be able to realize the whole thing. Gaming via Alienware Concept Nyx can thus be enabled more performantly and completely without latency than is the case with current game streaming services.
Black box as a base
A first picture of Alienware Concept Nyx shows a rather large, black box, which should probably serve as a base station for local game streaming. However, technical details are not known, and it is also unclear whether the box is a classic PC including the usual components.
After all, it is still a pure concept that was developed by the Experience Innovation Group (EIG). The same company already presented the Concept UFO gaming handheld at the CES two years ago, which never made it to the market.
There is also an Easter Egg in the first pictures of Alienware Concept Nyx, because the depicted controller – apart from the manufacturer’s logo – strongly reminds of the “UFO”. The gamepad comes up with a modular design, which can be put together as needed for the current title.
Whether the Concept Nyx will ever make it to market remains to be seen. However, Dell and Alienware want to continue working on the project. If there are further breakthroughs in the development, they want to steadily share the information with the public.
