Amazon invests a further 10 billion euros in Germany

Amazon wants to significantly expand its German site. And this project is likely to be anything but small. After all, the company wants to invest a further 10 billion euros in this country.

Amazon sets its sights on Germany

Europe is one of Amazon’s most important markets. The tech company therefore wants to expand its presence in our region. It is therefore not surprising that the online shipping giant is investing heavily in Europe. The US company plans to spend no less than 10 billion euros on building new cloud infrastructure and locations.

And all of this in Germany, as has now become known. A new Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure is to be built in the greater Frankfurt am Main area. The corresponding costs are expected to be 8.8 billion euros. According to the company, the remaining 1.2 billion euros will be spent on new company headquarters, logistics and robotics.

This means that the company is becoming increasingly important in Germany. Not only as the most important and most successful online store, but also as a major employer. According to Amazon, a total of 4,000 new jobs are to be created by the end of 2024. Of course, this does not yet include the new project in Frankfurt, but other locations in Thuringia, North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.

77 billion euros invested since 2010

And that’s not all. The tech group also wants to build new company headquarters in the major cities of Munich and Berlin. An expansion of the Berlin-based center for research and development is also planned. The center in the German capital will primarily serve the further development of AI solutions. This brings the total amount invested by Amazon since 2010 to an impressive 77 billion euros.

But why is it so important for Amazon to invest in the center of the EU of all places? The focus is on cloud solutions. With the AWS EU Cloud, the tech group wants to offer its customers data processing that takes place within the EU rather than in the USA. This promises a high standard of data protection, which is why Amazon doesn’t just have private sector companies in mind. Authorities should also use the Euro Cloud, if the tech group has its way.
